‘The Great Divorce’ Being Made Into a Movie
Posted July 25, 2009 5:30 pm by fantasia_kittyAccording to Dr. Bob Beltz on Examiner.com, The Great Divorce by C. S. Lewis being made into a movie. He writes: “Beloved Pictures is a new independent film company that is developing films that have positive, redemptive stories. They have acquired the rights to develop this C. S. Lewis’ classic. I’ve been brought on as an Executive Producer and creative consultant. If you are not familiar with the book, The Great Divorce is the story of a busload of people from the grey town (a kind of purgatory/hell) that are taken on a trip to heaven. When published in 1946 it was considered by some to be a sequel to Lewis’ Screwtape Letters. The principles at Beloved hope to have a director attached in the next couple of weeks. They currently are in the difficult process of finding investors who believe enough in this kind of film to fund the development and production of the project.” Dr. Bob Beltz is also a consultant to Walden Media and mentions a bit about The Voyage of the Dawn Treader as well (though nothing we haven’t heard before).
Retraction: They ARE Filming After All?
Posted July 24, 2009 2:34 pm by fantasia_kittyLess than six hours later, it looks like we may have to retract our news story about The Voyage of the Dawn Treader not filming yet. We’ve received new reports that say they are indeed filming already.
NarniaWebber M.K. notes that contrary to Perry Moore, Cort Kristensen (Michael Apted’s personal assistant) says they began filming July 22 and have their first shot.
NarniaWebber myartismylife writes: “I visited Movie World and they are filming in the carpark. I was at the Spit on 23rd July and I KNOW they were filming in the carpark on that day. I can’t get to close because of security fences but have taken photos when I could. There is a very large blue sceen with a lawn in front and a fence made of bricks covered in plaster and wrought iron railings inbetween the pillars.”
The third report is from Samantha who writes: “My husband is a basketball referee with QLD Basketball and he received an email stating the following:
‘The Centenary centre carpark will be unavailable for use on Sunday 26th July due to the filming of the Chronicles of Narnia. Visitors can park on the road leading into the school (TSS) and also in the cricket carpark. It may be a good idea to allow extra time to find a car spot.’
This is a filming area that I wasn’t aware of. My husband and I are planning to go for a walk to the spit tomorrow. We went to have a look the week before last and they had just begun construction on the castle facade, I can’t wait to see what it looks like in person now.”
All three of these stories corroborate each other, so we believe they are accurate. As far as the report about Perry Moore? That was pulled off of Twitter and sadly isn’t the the most accurate place for news. But there’s also the possibility that the production is trying to keep other filming locations quiet and they’re just being open about the site at The Spit because they can’t hide that. We’ll do our best to get an official word directly from someone in the production one way or another and get back to you all!
At the very least, we know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that filming will begin (if it has not already) before the month of July is over!
Thanks to M.K., myartisimylife, and Samantha for your reports!
News Report on Dawn Treader
Posted July 24, 2009 9:14 am by fantasia_kittyCraig White contacted us to let us know he had uploaded a news report on The Voyage of the Dawn Treader movie featuring the castle/wharf set on The Spit.
The news report mentions that this will be a “wharf somewhere at the end of the world” and that this particular set will be used for only three days.
Thanks Craig!
It’s Official! ‘Dawn Treader’ Starts Filming Next Week
Posted July 24, 2009 8:35 am by fantasia_kittyWe finally have confirmation from someone within the production when The Voyage of the Dawn Treader will start filming. Producer Perry Moore confirmed at Comic-Con yesterday that principal photography starts next week.
As Paul Martin at NarniaFans.com mentioned, the July 15 date was probably when the actors needed to arrive on set, begin rehersals, be fitted for their costumes, etc.
It’s nice to finally receive word on an official start date! Next week Dawn Treader sails forth!
The Mysterious Castle at The Spit
Posted July 23, 2009 10:43 am by fantasia_kittyAfter numerous pictures of contruction on the mysterious castle at The Spit to be used in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, we finally have a front shot of it thanks to GoldCoast.com.au.

Narnia at The Spit
Location manager Gareth Price said the wharf or ‘quayside’ structure, built from scaffolding, plaster and other set pieces, was due to be finished for filming in three weeks.
It has taken four weeks to build and will be used for just three days of shooting.
No one seems to know for sure what this castle will be used for. The two most likely scenes would be a shot of Caspian leaving Cair Paravel or Governor Gumpas’ castle on the Lone Islands.
On a completely seperate note, GoldCoast.com.au announced that The Voyage of the Dawn Treader will be released on December 9, 2010 in Australia. That’s one day before the US release.

Location Filming Aimed For End of July
Posted July 22, 2009 8:43 am by starkatGoldcoast.com.au’s recent article confirms reports that filming on location starts sometime this month.
Pre-production has already started at the Oxenford studios for this year’s The Chronicles of Narnia movie Invisible Army.
Location manager Gareth Price said filming would start on The Spit at the end of this month before moving to the sound stages and water tanks at the studios.
The actors are believed to have already arrived on the Gold Coast but Mr Price said confidentiality agreements prevented him from revealing more about filming locations or the actors.

Storyboard Artist Mike Vosburg Talks About Narnia
Posted July 20, 2009 10:09 am by wisewomanFrom MundoNarnia.com:
MundoNarnia.com: Tell us about your work in the storyboard of The Chronicles of Narnia.
Mike Vosburg: Doing storyboard for Lion/Witch was my first experience working on a big budget project and was certainly of of the highlights of my career. Working with Andrew and everyone connected with the project was always a very gratifying experience. Our work was respected, we were well taken care of, and the final creative product was something we were all very proud of. That doesn’t happen in all your working experiences; unfortunately, it happens only rarely.
When I started working on the movie, I was assuming it would be about three months work. But we missed the deadline for shooting the winter scenes in the planned production sites, and I wound up working for a least a year and half, including a very pleasant stretch in New Zealand.
My favorite scene that I boarded was the death of Aslan in the first film, and the fight in the shrine to the Stone Table where the White Witch is resurrected in the second film. Since I had the time, I actually did some of the boards in full color.
The big change for me on this project was that when I normally boarded sequences on other projects, there might be a few changes, and then that was the last you saw of it. On the Narnia material, we would do it over and over until Andrew felt it was right. And it shows in the final product.
MN: And what about the project for the new movie, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, any news or challenges?
Mike Vosburg: I spent about a year working on Dawn Treader, including a sequence I did a couple months back just before they moved to Australia to start shooting. I was producing some drawings they could use when looking for locations.
MN: Has Walden Media already contacted you for the production of other movies of The Chronicles of Narnia series?
Mike Vosburg: I’ve always had a great working relationship with Walden. I also storyboarded The Journey to the Center of the Earth film, so certainly hope they call me for any future Narnia work.
MN: On your website we can see on the portfolio works such as Hellboy and Harry Potter. What other productions have you worked?
Mike Vosburg: Hellboy was created by an acquaintance of mine, Mike Mignola, and I’ve always been a big fan of the work. Tom Nelson and I both boarded sections of the animated material they did.
MN: What final message could you leave to Narnia and fantasy movies fans?
Mike Vosburg: I hope that Narnia fans have enjoyed watching the movies as much as I enjoyed working on them. One of my more rewarding memories was watching the films with my friends Zahra and Jim Beihold (Jim was another board artist on the first film) and their daughter Emily and her two friends. The girls would recite the dialogue along with the characters…they had watched the film enough times that they knew it by heart!
Another Round of Set Photos from Cleveland Point
Posted July 19, 2009 12:14 pm by fantasia_kittySpringHillVoice.com has made another trek down to the Cleveland Point filming location for The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and has posted a new round of photos on their website.
Perhaps one of the more interesting pictures is the sign at the location stating the exact dimensions of the Dawn Treader.

The sign reads: “To the Resident and Visitor.
This site has been chosen as a filming location for an upcoming major feature film being produced by Dragons Prow Pty Ltd.
Redland City Council have kindly granted us permission to occupy the site and construct our hero boat on the point. This measures 45 metres in length and 12 metres in height and will be built on to a gymbal so that it will have the ability to pitch and it will be clipped together and final finishing touches made by our art department.
In early September we are scheduled to commence filming until approximately September 25th. Once filming is complete, our construction and de-rig crew will be on hand for four weeks returning Cleveland Point to its current condition.
Dragons Prow Pty Ltd would like to thank you in advance for your support. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call on our locations department at Warner Roadshow Studios on 5585 9711.”

Here is another shot of The Dawn Treader under construction.
You can check out the rest of the pictures at SpringHillVoice’s website here.
Thanks to icarus for the heads up!
