Note to goldcoast.com.au: We love you too

In a recent opinion piece posted on the goldcoast.com.au, they talk about tourism and some of the things that draw attention to the area. As you read the article, there is a mention of NarniaWeb and three NarniaWebbers when talking about the boost that the Narnia film has been to the area. Thanks to the Goldcoast.com.au for the mention of our site and all of the great work that they have done covering the film! One correction to the article though, Rising_Star and I are not ’fanboys’. We are FANGIRLS.

The Dawn Treader is Nearly Complete

NarniaFans was sent a set of pictures presumably from earlier today in Australia when the Dragon’s Prow was attached to the body of the Dawn Treader. It looks stunning. You can also see that a single mast has been erected in the middle of the ship. Hopefully it will have a purple sail attached to it.

Chief Dufflepud Cast

Roy Billing cast as the Chief Dufflepud

Roy Billing cast as the Chief Dufflepud

New Zealand actor, Roy Billings, has been cast in the role of the Chief Dufflepud.

“I hop on a plane on Monday”, Billing says. “I’m playing Chief Dufflepud – a gnome-like creature who hops around on one leg. There’s a whole heap of [Dufflepuds]. It should take a week or so to film my scene”.

Billing says the first thing he has to do when he arrives is get fitted for his prosthetics.

It is interesting to note that Billing is not a short person, whereas in the book prior to the Dufflepuds becoming Dufflepuds, they were described as a common little dwarf. Either the production has chosen to make the Dufflepuds larger, or there will be a lot of green screen involved in their creation.

The Ship Has Wings

The look of the Dawn Treader continues to evolve as construction nears completion! The latest photo, posted on kejo’s Flickr site, shows that the dragon wings have finally been attached, which adds more color and makes the ship look a little more like what Lewis describes in Chapter One: “The sides of the ship – what you could see of them where the gilded wings of the dragon ended – were green.” The prow is still waiting to be attached, and of course there is still no sign of the sail (which Lewis describes as being purple). Thanks to icarus and ceppault for the find!

‘Dawn Treader’ Set Attracting Local Attention

Matt Dunston of Australia’s Nine News did a special report on the set for The Voyage of the Dawn Treader last night. According to the story, the large set at Cleveland Point has been attracting a lot of attention from curious local residents. It is a “spectacular set,” at 43 meters long and almost as high, against a clear, wide horizon. One resident says, “Everyone’s just amazed at the size of it.” The entire set will be dismantled and moved when the filming is over — although apparently, the locals wouldn’t mind if they left some of it behind!

After the filming at Cleveland Point is complete, they will be moving the Dawn Treader set to Southport on the Gold Coast.

Two More Casting Announcements — Pug and Lord Bern

Posted August 11, 2009 6:48 pm by fantasia_kitty

We’ve received two more casting announcements this evening exclusive to NarniaWeb!

Terry Norris cast as Lord Bern

Terry Norris cast as Lord Bern

Australian actor Terry Norris has been cast in the role of Lord Bern (one of the seven Lords for whom Caspian is searching). Terry Norris was born in Melbourne, Victoria. He has appeared in many roles on television, film and theatre but is probably best known for his role as Senior sergeant Eric O’Reilly in the television series Cop Shop.

You can view Terry Norris’ IMDb page here and Lord Bern’s character profile here.

Australia actor Colin Moody has been cast in the role of Pug (the slaver who captures Caspian, Edmund, Lucy, Eustace, and Reepicheep on one of the Lone Islands). Colin Moody graduated from Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art with a degree in Performing Arts in 1990. Since then, he has had a very successful career in television and also has done some work in the art department, which includes the movie Bridget Jones’s Diary.

We’re not 100% sure, but we think this picture here from GoldCoast.com.au’s gallery might be Pug in costume.

Pug perhaps?

More Pictures from Narrowhaven and the Dawn Treader

Posted August 11, 2009 4:33 pm by fantasia_kitty 1 Comment

In addition to their news story earlier, GoldCoast.com.au has added a photo gallery with 35 pictures from the filming yesterday. They include lots of extras in costume, several of the crew, and a couple great shots of Will Poulter (Eustace) and David Vallon (Gumpas).

We also have a couple new pictures of the Dawn Treader to share as well. The first comes from ‘kelmagic’. The picture is a bit dark and kind of hard to see, but if you look closely, there has been quite a bit of detailing added to the stern of the ship, which might include a tail perhaps?

And finally, NarniaWebber ‘ceppault’ found another picture of the Dawn Treader on sandgatecanoeclub’s Flickr, which can be seen here. This picture is a bit older as some of the detailing hasn’t been added on yet, but this shot was taken from the sea so you can get a good look at the other side of the ship without anything in the way.

David Vallon Cast as Gumpas

Posted August 11, 2009 12:09 pm by fantasia_kitty

NarniaFans learned that David Vallon has been cast as Governor Gumpas in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

There is a clear shot of him acting as Gumpas in the video we just posted a few minutes ago.

Gumpas is a cowardly, selfish, but cunning man who profits from the slave trade on the Lone Islands — at least until Caspian and his crew arrive. You can read more about Gumpas in our Character Profile guide here.

Filming News at The Spit

Gumpas’ Stunt Double, Johnathan Costelloe - GoldCoast.com.au

GoldCoast.com.au has posted news about The Voyage of the Dawn Treader filming that went on earlier today at the Wharf set.

Entering the set of The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader is like being transported to another, stranger world.

‘Village people’ in clothing from a bygone age wander around against a backdrop of what appears to be a medieval wharf.

Nearby, director Michael Apted works on a scene with one of the stars, Will Poulter, who stands on a boat rattling off lines in a thick English accent for his role as Eustace Scrubb.

But a closer look reminds one that the magic of Hollywood is at work; the ‘medieval’ walls are really made of plaster and the man doing the dangerous scenes for Gumpas, the Governor of the Lone Islands, is a stunt double with a strong Kiwi accent [pictured right].

You can read the full story here.

Also, 9 Gold Coast News was invited onto the set for filming. Here is their news story. (YouTube link)

And finally, NarniaWeb spy ‘myartismylife’ snapped these pictures of the Narrowhaven wharf set. In the book, this is where our heroes are captured to be sold as slaves.

Then they were rowed out to the slave-ship and taken below into a long, rather dark place, none too clean, where they found many other unfortunate prisoners; for Pug was of course a pirate and had just returned from cruising among the islands and capturing what he could. The children didn’t meet anyone whom they knew; the prisoners were mostly Galmians and Terebinthians.
