New Dawn Treader Set?

Posted September 30, 2009 11:21 am by fantasia_kitty 70 Comments

NarniaWeb spy Andrew writes: “Hey, I was at Movie World today and from the Lethal Weapon ride I was able to see a set in the process of being contructed in the studios backlot. It looks as if to be some desert or beachy area with towering cliffs.” As we don’t know for sure that this is a Dawn Treader set, please take this report with a grain of salt. Although it’s very likely as there are many beach sets in this movie.

20th Century Fox’s official website has added The Voyage of the Dawn Treader to its list of ‘Coming Soon’ movies.

Right now there isn’t anything to see other than the placeholder, but all the other previous big Fox movies have had an official website hotlinked on that particular page.  It’s definitely worth keeping an eye on!

Fox’s official website can be found here.

Filming Wraps at Cleveland Point

Posted September 28, 2009 7:03 pm by fantasia_kitty 70 Comments

Even though filming wrapped at Cleveland Point last week, BaysideBulletin has one final report on it. It turns out the production didn’t quite manage to escape the dust storm after all…

TWO days of filming at a ‘closed set’ in Cleveland were built into the Narnia schedule in case of bad weather, but nobody imagined it would be a record-breaking dust storm that caused cast and crew to abandon ship.

A set was built inside a vacant Cleveland warehouse as part of the filming of third Narnia film, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, which has been based at Cleveland Point this month.

The cast began two days of filming on Tuesday in the warehouse, which fortuitously meant they filmed inside throughout Wednesday’s dusty and windy weather.

On Thursday, the cast returned for their final day of filming – after the ship had to be cleaned from mast to deck.

Work to dismantle the 125 tonne ship and reassemble it on set at MovieWorld on the Gold Coast began on Friday and is expected to take about two weeks.

You can read the full story at BaysideBulletin’s website here.

And as a final note, I know there are some of you keeping very close track of the filming locations for this movie. If you are one of them, there is a picture and address given for the warehouse they filmed in for two days.

UPDATE: ‘JadisstarkillR’ sent us a link to a video that was shot on the last day of shooting at Cleveland Point. It reportadly takes place after the MLG jumps off the ship. Both Caspian and Edmund appear to comfort Lucy after Gael and Rhince jump. Why would Lucy need to be comforted?

Edmund Has Escaped the Dungeon

Posted September 28, 2009 9:02 am by fantasia_kitty 138 Comments

Skandar’s official website has updated again to state, “Edmund has been removed from the dungeon.” There’s been a lot of speculation as to what this dungeon might be. The most logical guess based off of the book is he and the others were being held captive by Pug and the slavers. But it’s good to know that he’s managed to break free somehow and is off filming another scene.

Dawn Treader Briefly Mentioned in Bille Brown Interview

Posted September 27, 2009 2:56 pm by fantasia_kitty 21 Comments

Bille Brown was recently interviewed by TheAge.com.au for his theatre role in the musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. His role as the wizard Coriakin is very briefly mentioned, primarily to state he’s already finished filming that role and it took about three weeks to do so. If you wish to read his interview, you can do so here.

The Mysterious Little… Boy?

Over the past week or two, the forum has been buzzing with speculation on who the Mysterious Little Girl (Gael) is, and where she fits into the story. Is she a freed slave? Is she Rhince’s daughter? Why is she on the ship during the dragon attack? What does the damaged railing have to do with it? Who is “mommy”? Nothing is certain.

Just when we thought it couldn’t get more confusing, the Goldcoast.com.au reports that the Mysterious Little Girl is actually played by a boy, Jorel Reynolds. Read the story here. It is possible that Reynolds is just the MLG’s stunt double. Let the speculation continue!
UPDATE!: Looks like Goldcoast.com.au has edited their story to clear up the conclusion: It now clearly says that Reynolds “has landed his first stunt-double role.” Sorry, Shakespeare fans. Reynolds will just be doing the stunts.

Cleveland Point Deluged in Dust

The production managed to complete filming at Cleveland Point just in the nick of time. The entire Redlands area was engulfed in a rare dust storm on Wednesday. BaysideBulletin writes, “At Cleveland Point, the Dawn Treader on the Narnia set was devoid of its brilliant colours and the bay itself was visible for little more than 100 metres; the thick wall of dust that robbed us of the usual panaoramic views made the world seem to end just off shore.” You can read the whole story at BaysideBulletin’s website here.

Edmund in a “Dungeon”

EdmundThis is from Skandar Keynes’ official website:Edmund (LWW)

Skandar is still at Cleveland. But instead of being on the magical Dawn Treader Edmund is filthy, bruised and finding himself in another dungeon.

Perhaps this is referring to Edmund and the others being captured by Pug?

The Future of the Dawn Treader Ship

Posted September 24, 2009 12:49 pm by fantasia_kitty 81 Comments

Completed Dawn TreaderNow that filming has completed at Cleveland Point, many are wondering what will become of the gorgeous ship, the Dawn Treader. GoldCoast.com.au has a story on it.

It took crews more than two months to assemble the immaculate Dawn Treader ship on location at Cleveland.

Mr Malik said once filming was completed, it would be stripped down and shipped back to the Coast.

“It will be put back together inside one of the stages because we need it for sequences that will have it surrounded by a blue screen.

“We still have to shoot a storm sequence and an attack sequence with it.

“Then what happens to it after filming entirely? Well, that’s the million-dollar question. I’ll say one thing: it won’t be scrapped.”

Filming of the blockbuster officially reached the halfway mark today and is scheduled to finish ahead of its November wrap date.

So there you have it. The Dawn Treader will head back to the Gold Coast (which we knew) and be rebuilt inside the studios (which we didn’t know) and then after that, its fate is undetermined, but it won’t be scrapped!!

Young Artist Draws the Dawn Treader

Posted September 24, 2009 12:43 pm by fantasia_kitty 43 Comments

Bayside Bulletin is reporting on a really cool story of a young 9-year-old boy named Tom Systa who drew a picture of the Dawn Treader.

A framed sketch of the Dawn Treader hangs on the wall of production designer, Barry Robinson, reminding him of the vast ship built at Cleveland Point for the latest Narnia film, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

But it’s not an artist’s impression, nor was one of the many creative staff on the film responsible; it was drawn by Thornlands nine-year-old, Tom Systa.

“When I saw how big it was and all the detail on the ship, I wanted to draw it,” Tom said.

“I love to draw lots of things.”

His mother, Bernadette, had taken her five children down to see the set being constructed at Cleveland Point when inspiration struck.

A keen sketcher, Tom pulled out a pen and his notepad and used the partially-constructed set and his own imagination to draw what the ship would look like.

He gave it to a member of the crew who was taking questions at the set gate, who delivered it to Mr Robinson.

Tom was reunited with his now-framed artwork on Friday, when he was invited to tour the set and see the completed ship up close.

“It was exciting and awesome! It was a lot bigger than I was expecting, I thought it would be a little, tiny boat,” Tom said.

Tom also received a copy of the complete Chronicles of Narnia novel and a Narnia picture book, with a signed message from Barry Robinson telling him he had talent and to keep up the good work.

“It has a few big words in it, but it’s fun to read because now I’ve seen the boat the story is about.” Tom said.

You can read the full story and see Tom’s sketch at BaysideBulletin.com here.
