HarperCollins to Release C. S. Lewis Bible

To go along with the other tie-in books being released in October for The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, HarperCollins will be publishing a C. S. Lewis Bible.
Thought-provoking meditations from beloved author C. S. Lewis’s own spiritual writings are paired with corresponding Bible passages in The C. S. Lewis Bible. This NRSV Bible provides readings comprised of over 600 selections from Lewis’s celebrated spiritual classics, a collection that includes Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, The Great Divorce, The Problem of Pain, Miracles, A Grief Observed, The Four Loves, and The Weight of Glory, as well as letters, poetry, and Lewis’s lesser-known works. Each reading, paired alongside relevant passages in the Bible, offers C. S. Lewis as a companion to a reader’s daily meditation of scripture.
Sample pages from the C. S. Lewis Bible can be viewed here and more information on this Bible can be found on HarperCollins’ website here. You can also pre-order the Bible here.
Thanks to johobbit for the heads-up!
UPDATE: In digging around for more information on the C. S. Lewis Bible, I ran across another book being released on Oct 12 called ‘A Year with Aslan: Daily Reflections from The Chronicles of Narnia’.
In the tradition of A YEAR WITH C. S. LEWIS, get your daily dose of Narnia inspiration in this first of its kind collection of 365 readings from the beloved children’s series. A Year with Aslan will select the most thought-provoking and poignant passages from all seven books in the series, and provide reflective questions that get the heart of what matters most.

IMATS will be held on April 17 & 18 and Berger will speak on April 18 from 10:30am – 11:30am. As Paul Martin pointed out on NarniaFans, there’s a very good possibility that Howard may mention a few tidbits regarding the makeup and creature design for The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Ticket prices for both days are $60.00 CAD and $35.00 CAD for one day. More information is available on the IMATS website here.
Comingsoon.net Confirms Dawn Treader Will Be in 3D
Posted March 23, 2010 1:45 pm by fantasia_kitty 264 CommentsAs an update to our story earlier today, Comingsoon.net contacted their sources and confirmed that a decision has been made and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader will be released in 3D.
Earlier today, a rumor started circulating the internet that 20th Century Fox will release The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader in 3D this December. ComingSoon.net has confirmed through our source that it is indeed the case.
It will be a 3D-filled holiday season, which kicks-off with DreamWorks Animation’s Megamind on Nov. 5. Disney will then release the Rapunzel film Tangled in 3D on Nov. 12, followed a week later by Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 on Nov. 19. The other 3D release scheduled for December is Disney’s Tron Legacy on the 17th, right in between “Narnia” and “Travels.”
As far as I’m concerned, there’s really no bad news here. 3D movies have been making an immense amount of money compared to what they would have made if they had only been released in 2D, even considering that this particular movie will now cost an approximately $12mil more to make now (assuming the run time is about 2 hours). The Voyage of the Dawn Treader was shot without being planned as a 3D movie, so it’s not going to be all about the special effects. And for those of you out there that really don’t like 3D movies, nobody is forcing you to go see it in 3D; there will still be a 2D version released as well.

Will ‘Dawn Treader’ Be in 3D or Not?
Posted March 23, 2010 9:36 am by fantasia_kitty 76 CommentsA year ago, Fox announced that they would be releasing three movies in 3D in 2010. Speculation immediately started on our site whether or not The Voyage of the Dawn Treader would be one of the three.
Deadline.com has just released an article that talks about how all of the Hollywood studios are converting all of their movies to 3D due to the large success of 3D movies. (Alice in Wonderland being the latest unexpected box office hit.) The article makes it clear that The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is a clear contender for being released in 3D, but 20th Century Fox still hasn’t decided whether or not to do it.
Hard conversion conversations are being had now at studios on films that include Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Gulliver’s Travels and The Hobbit. Executives are weighing competitive issues and the potential benefits of higher ticket prices against the $100,000 per running time minute that is being used as a rule-of-thumb conversion cost.
Even though not everybody is a fan of 3D movies, the good news here is that VDT was shot prior to a decision being made on whether or not this movie will be in 3D. So we definitely won’t be getting a movie that is all special effects and no story. Releasing this movie in 3D would just be a cherry on top of the ice cream for some and hopefully a whole lot more box office money, which in turn would mean more Narnia movies!

Interview with Doug Cartwright, Leadlight Artist for VDT
Posted March 22, 2010 10:03 am by fantasia_kitty 15 CommentsNarniaWebber icarus writes: “An interesting feature in this magazine here with Doug Cartwright, the guy who did the Leadlights (which is apparently pretty much the same thing as a Stained Glass Window) for The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. It’s not the longest article ever, but it does give perhaps one of the first mentions for the Scrubb’s house set (we’ve heard a brief mention of the bedroom set before, but nothing of the rest of the house. I would assume the leadlights for this set would be in the hallway or on the front door probably):
Doug walked through the sets in progress, and, at Sound Stage 5, a crew of builders was working swiftly to assemble a free-standing group of houseless, three-walled rooms. “The first batch of leadlights was for the rather drab and conventional Scrubb House, from which Lucy, Edmund and their cousin Eustace depart for Narnia. Then there would be some much more stylish panels of Narnian leadlight to go into the Royal Stateroom doors onboard the ship.
Though he does also mistakenly refer to one of the fauns on set as “Mr Tumnus” but we can forgive him that one.”
The article is on page 23 of the Logan Central Magazine PDF here.

‘Narnia: The Exhibition’ Headed to Huntsville, AL?
Posted March 17, 2010 11:51 pm by fantasia_kitty 34 CommentsWell it looks like we may know a future location that ‘Narnia: The Exihibition‘ will be heading. Huntsville Alabama’s U.S. Space and Rocket Center. A local news site in Huntsville reported on a big Star Wars exhibit that is coming to the museum, and included this tidbit in their story: “And although the Star Wars exhibit hasn’t even begun yet, the Space and Rocket Center has already booked the next big exhibit to come in the fall of 2010: ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’.”
The exhibition which features costumes, props, and sets from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Prince Caspian movies, is currently at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. It wraps up there on April 25.
If it’s the same Narnia exhibit that’s heading to Alabama (presumably it is), there would be quite a gap over the summer where it wouldn’t be showing, so perhaps it will head somewhere else in the meantime? We’ll keep you posted as we hear more information.
Dawn Treader On-Set Color Correction
Posted March 14, 2010 2:33 pm by glumPuddle 33 CommentsAny Videophile NarniaWebbers out there? Resource411 has posted an interview with Simon Cuff, the president of Digital Vision. The company supplied the technology that enabled the filmmakers to use on-set color correction for The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Here it is in a nutshell (in English): As reported last July, this will be the first Narnia film to be shot with digital cameras instead of traditional 35mm cameras. Although there is controversy about the quality, there is no denying the fact that digital cameras are cost-effective and very convenient for filmmakers. Most footage shot for a movie ends up being color corrected in post-production to achieve a certain look the director is going for. The process of scanning film into a computer, color correcting it, and then printing that back to film is expensive and time-consuming. It also means that on the day, the director is not able to see exactly what the shot will look like. The use of digital cameras speeds up the process considerably. As Cuff discusses, these cameras enabled Apted to look at color corrected footage on the day he shot it. Cuff also talks about how they were quickly able to composite green-screen material with previs elements and color correct them separately to get an idea of what the shot would look like before spending a lot of time and money on it. I think the DVD extras will probably explain more about this process. Read the interview here. Thanks to Icarus for the find.
Interview with Jeff Okabayashi – Adventures of an AD
Posted March 14, 2010 10:48 am by fantasia_kitty 66 Comments
DGA [Director's Guild of America] Quarterly has posted an interview with Jeff Okabayashi where he mentions a tiny bit of his work on Dawn Treader.
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader marks the first time Okabayashi has worked as a 1st AD [assistant director] from prep to wrap. “I think the biggest change from 2nd AD to 1st is that as the 2nd I was the executor of the plan; as the 1st I create the plan.
“Last Friday was the big storm sequence on the ship,” Okabayashi explains with a boyish glee. “We’re talking rain, mist, violent winds, and dump tanks and water cannons for waves, which all have to be created at an exterior location without real storms or weather taking us out. The actors, kids, stunts and background are all on the ship, which is 20 feet above ground on a gimbal that rocks the boat so hard the performers have to be harnessed so they don’t fall off. You just have to sit back and think, ‘Wow! That was really cool.’”
Okabayashi has worked on all three Narnia films
as the first assistant director on The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and the second assistant director for The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Prince Caspian.
The full interview is available on DGA Quarterly’s website here.
