The Latest Dawn Treader Banner in Theaters

Posted August 4, 2010 8:23 pm by fantasia_kitty

Huge thanks to Narnian1 for running out to the theaters for us and snapping a few pictures for us!

This banner first showed up on Narnianos a few weeks ago, but wasn’t confirmed to be a legitimate poster until after I was gone on vacation, so we’re a bit slow reporting on it.

Hopefully now that it’s out in theaters, we’ll be able to get our hands on a hi-res image of it!

UPDATE: NarniaWebber Jacob C sent in an image of a slightly different banner hanging on the outside of the movie theater.

Thanks to Jacob C for the image!

General Movie Discussion | Re: Trailer #2 *Spoilers*

I think this trailer puts a bit of a different light on this movie than the previous trailer did. The last one made it feel very kiddish, though I wasn't completely unhappy with it, I admit it didn't feel very serious. This new trailer feels grave, a bit mysterious, and overall significantly more mature. Some of the shots I really adored, like Lucy walking up to the magician's book. The Pevensies walking may have produced more questions than answers, but I'm glad it clears up the issue of what the heck was behind them, now it's just to figure out where these thrones are. I actually liked Caspian's line at the end, and I remember someone mentioning on another thread (or perhaps it was this one, I don't remember) that it sounded like something he would say while they were sailing into the darkness, and it makes sense because it sounds so urgent and somewhat desperate, a little like he's comforting his crew members while they are enduring horrible dreams in it.

I've just noticed how most of the photos we are getting of Lucy, she is wearing men's clothing. In the book she wore Caspian's clothes until her clothes were dry (it can be seen in the illustrations, though I'm not sure they are the best source for this.)

Anyways, what do you think of it? Being the tomboy that I am, it doesn't bother me in one way, but being a Narnia fan, I feel this is an attempt to make Lucy "masculine." I could get into how our culture feels that to be a strong woman you must act like a man, and how this is a result of such thinking, but thats my gender studies nerd side taking over. Image

General Movie Discussion | Re: Trailer #2 *Spoilers*

^^ I think it's just keeping up with the continuity of the first two movies: in LWW, once the Pevensies get to Narnia, they get Narnian clothes and they don't go back to their own clothes until they return to their own world. in PC it's the same too! so.....in VotDT I am guessing that that's why Lucy is still wearing Caspian's clothes but tha's just a theory......

Let's not forget that this is a DVD trailer, guys - not a theatrical trailer. That's why it's so short and that's why it doesn't cover as much ground as a traditional trailer would. Some of the criticisms I see in this thread would be valid IF this were FOX's next big marketing attempt, but it's not. It's just a quick glimpse to serve as a preview on a DVD.

Exactly, equustel. I've been considering that thought for a while and comforting myself with it.
Not that this new trailer is bad according to composition-- the only things that bug me are a couple off-sounding lines and the undercooked CGI.

I think Lucy is just wearing pants because a dress on a ship isn't exactly practical, especially if she does any kind of climbing.

^Yes. At least that is what Elizabeth started to do in POTC when she began going at sea a lot. She wore pants instead of dresses.

I really like this trailer a lot better then the first. The way how the introduction was laid out and the music gave you a sense that this will be a very epic movie.

Didn't Susan and Lucy walk and climb down a lot in PC while wearing dresses? Even so I agree that Lucy should be wearing pants throughout the voyage because it was in the book.

Did anybody else notice that Lucy, when with the other Pevensies in the trailer, is wearing the clothes she borrowed from Caspian? This is really worrying me. Not that I mind seeing more of Peter and Susan, but it is against the story. We don't see Peter again until the Last Battle. And Susan gives up on Narnia and is in America during Voyage of the Dawn Treader. And if Lucy is wearing Narnian clothes from during Dawn Treader, and the others have their Narnian stuff like Rhindon and Susan's bow, that means that it is either a really realistic dream or Susan and Peter are back in Narnia. Maybe it is in Aslan's country?

Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy are all together looking king and queenly. I have hope these scenes are simply part of a back story about the sovergienty of the Islands and nothing more. I wouldn't mind that at all.

exactly what I was thinking! it makes sense that she would wear what everyone else on board it wearing for the duration of the trip for practical reasons!

Excellent analysis, as always. Your editing skills have greatly improved over the years as well.

Just fyi (since I know you disliked this in the past), YouTube has changed their upload length limit from 10 minutes to 15 minutes. So you can now do longer bits of analysis per video, if you are so inclined. Image

You know, if the CGI was finished, this would be my favorite of the 3 trailers.

This trailer has a more mature, deeper, mysterious feel to it. It also has the best editing and music. I really like the opening. I think if the CGi was finished, it should be released as a TV trailer.

I like this trailer better than the first one, but the third one is much better.

I have no problem with Lucy wearing pants, they would be much more practical for a sea voyage then a dress
