Insidepulse.com Features Sneak Preview of Voyage: SPOILERS

Posted October 25, 2010 7:02 am by DiGoRyKiRkE 60 Comments

Some of the staff members of insidepulse.com were recently invited by 20th Century Fox, to view a selection of scenes from the upcoming movie The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.  In the article, we finally hear what has become of Peter.  Having heard various rumours that he has been studying, involved in the war, etc. . . the website is now reporting that Peter is in America with Susan and their parents.

Their description of the clips previewed does not go into a great amount of detail, however, their reaction to what they saw holds some rather encouraging news:

“Even though the clips were short, a minute or two long at most, I was fully enveloped in the world of Narnia and didn’t want it to end.”

New Film About Lewis — ‘Surprised by Joy’

Posted October 24, 2010 1:44 pm by fantasia_kitty 14 Comments

NarniaFans scored an exclusive interview with Darren Jacobs, co-writer of the new film, ‘Surprised by Joy.’ Here’s a snippet of the interview.

NarniaFans.com: Why would fans of Narnia want to see this film?

Darren Jacobs: I’m confident there are a great many fans of Narnia who would love to see Jack and Tollers (J.R.R. Tolkien) on their late-night stroll on Addison’s Walk discussing myth in the context of their deep friendship with each other.  To see Jack’s childhood at Little Lea; his tutor Kirkpatrick sharpening his young mind;  in the trenches during WWI;  at Oxford finding his way through Academia;  at the Eagle & Child with the Inklings or on a walking tour with Tollers in the Cotswolds…now that is a movie I’ve dreamed of seeing!  And it’s about time.

Ben Barnes Discusses ‘Dawn Treader’

Posted October 24, 2010 1:11 am by Bookwyrm 26 Comments

NarniaWeb member Lover of Narnia alerted us to a new audio interview with Ben Barnes. Jo Parkerson from LBC Radio sat down to talk with Ben about his appearance in the play Birdsong, but there is also discussion of the Narnia franchise and the upcoming Voyage of the Dawn Treader film.

The topic switch to The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader comes a little over 10 minutes into the interview. Ben reports that he will most likely be on the red carpet for the premiere, but will still be performing Birdsong that night. He will attempt to make a return trip to the premiere afterparty once the performance of Birdsong is finished.

Ben also discusses his role in the action scenes from Prince Caspian and Dawn Treader. He indicates that while there is less action in the latter film, he is more personally involved in it than in his previous jaunt to Narnia. Ben also mentions various sundries such as falling down rooftops and a scene involving King Caspian forced to fight foes with a pair of handcuffs, referring to it as an “archaic Jason Bourne” scene.

The interview runs about 15 minutes and may be found here.

Possible New Dawn Treader Banner

Posted October 23, 2010 11:32 pm by Bookwyrm 82 Comments

Spy reports from several of our watchful members have alerted us to MundoNarnia’s report on the existence of this possible new banner for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Like previous banners and posters, this also features a collection of characters along with the Dawn Treader herself. Oddly, the two oldest Pevensies join the grouping of characters comprised of Edmund, Caspian, Lucy, and Eustace. This banner features the return of Reep to the logo and the White Witch glowering down upon the characters.

The banner’s text is Spanish. Aslan’s Country reports the tagline is translated to: Embark on the journey. Live the adventure. Discover Narnia as you’ve never seen before.

As of this posting, we have no confirmation that this poster is actually an official promotional piece. Keep an eye on NarniaWeb for updates.

Seven Dawn Treader Discussion Points: Week 1

Posted October 22, 2010 10:33 pm by Tirian 21 Comments

Professor and author Dr. Devin Brown has provided us with seven discussion questions based around The Voyage of the Dawn Treader for the seven weeks leading up to the film’s release. We are pleased to release the first of these discussion questions today and will release another question each Friday. You can join the NarniaWeb forum at http://forum.narniaweb.com/viewforum.php?f=24 to participate in the discussion group. Look for lots of lively and stimulating conversation.

Dr. Brown’s introduction reads:

In his autobiography, Surprised by Joy, Lewis records a turning point as he was learning to write.  He tells readers, “Up to then, if my lines rhymed and scanned and got on with the story I asked no more. Now . . . I began to try to convey some of the intense excitement I was feeling, to look for expressions which would not merely state but suggest. . . . I had learned what writing means.”

In The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, we find a number of intriguing passages where Lewis suggests more than he merely states, places where he invites the reader to first read carefully and then to think about the implications of what was written.

In keeping with the Dawn Treader’s quest for the seven lost lords, I have provided seven discussion points from Lewis’s wonderful story, places where he invites us to speculate on what a passage may suggest.

If you like these discussion questions, you may be interested in the book Inside the Voyage of the Dawn Treader: A Guide to Exploring the Journey beyond Narnia.

And so, with many thanks to Dr. Brown, we present the first discussion question: “How Ever Many Skins Have I Got to Take Off?”: What Is Lewis Saying?

Interesting Narnian Classroom Activity: SPOILERS

Scholastic has posted a play script aimed towards teachers, which allows students to act out The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.  It would seem that the plot of this play parallels (at least to some degree) the plot of the upcoming film.  The script is interspersed with several images that we have already seen before, but does contain a new image of the Chief Dufflepud.

The script is available to download here.

Does this script confuse you?  Excite you?  Scare you?  Talk about it on the NarniaWeb.com forums by clicking here.

BBC Posts New Trailer

A BBC television show entitled “Film 2010,” has featured a new trailer.  At just under a minute in length, it is the shortest trailer that we’ve seen so far, and it really doesn’t feature a whole lot of images that we haven’t seen before in other trailers. You can see the new trailer on youtube, by clicking here (SPOILERS).

Narnia Comes Out of the Wardrobe and Into Your Mall

Posted October 21, 2010 11:19 pm by Bookwyrm 10 Comments

The next time you venture into your local retail establishment, keep an eye out for visitors from the land of Narnia. Employee-owned high-tech sales and engineering firm Cross Co. has recently created automation and motion control products for a series of large displays to be featured in shopping centers around the US. The displays serve as promotion for the upcoming film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, which releases December 10.

This isn’t the first time Cross Co. has had a brush with a blockbuster franchise; the company has previously worked on dinosaur robots for Universal Orlando Resort’s Jurassic Park River Adventure. Other recent projects include the US’s first switchgrass biofuel plant which uses grass to manufacture ethanol for fuel.

Many thanks to Icarus for this find and you can view the article he discovered for us here.

Hobbit Casting Announcements

Posted October 21, 2010 9:56 pm by fantasia_kitty 30 Comments

No, this really has nothing to do with Narnia. But as Lewis and Tolkien were such good friends, and so many Narnia fans are also Middle-earth fans, we thought we’d let you know that the first official casting announcements were made tonight for The Hobbit — starting with Martin Freeman who will be playing Bilbo Baggins. You can see the full list on TheOneRing.net or the New Zealand Herald.

As we reported on Tuesday, David Arnold’s score for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is now available for pre-order on Amazon.com.  They have now added an image of the potential cover-art, which shows a majestic Aslan looking out through a curtain of snowflakes.  Unfortunately we’re still waiting to hear the titles of the tracks on the CD.

You can preorder the soundtrack here. It’s currently $10.99 in the US.
