Douglas Gresham Talks to Relevant Magazine

Relevant Magazine has posted a three page article interviewing Douglas Gresham on Narnia and specifically The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

Gresham talks about translating the books into movies, how he prayerfully determines what he feels are the most important themes that cannot be left out in the movies, and how the theme of temptation is a very strong part of ‘Dawn Treader.’

I love how he's such a strong witness for God, and he seems so intelligent and kind 🙂 You also have to love his precious sailor attire lol 😀

wow, this touched me so much! i loved how he said "i cheat. by that i mean, i pray alot". that put a smile on my face 😀
he sounds so wonderful! i want to meet him now! my questions of him throughout the years i've known of him have all be cleared up, and now i truly know that Narnia is extremely special to him and he wants more than anything to portray that great important message, and all the little messages, from the books to the movies. i have great faith in him, and knowing that he is really involved with the making of the movies i have faith in VDT as well. i have been extremely satisfied with the movies so far, and i know really, that no matter what they do, i will love them, because they're Narnia! the only thing that would turn me away is if they ruined Aslan. he's the most important, and always the thing i look for 😀

He's always ready to set sail on the Dawn Treader.. haha

  6. Hwin says:

Wow, that was a great article! I really think that Douglas Gresham has the right mind set, and if he keeps it, the films will definitely succeed!!! I noticed in the picture of Caspian, Ed, and Lucy, Edmund had his 'light torch' 🙂 Hahaha!

  7. NarniaChick says:

I am so glad we actually heard something from him. I was getting a bit worried because he had some input on the other movies before this stage in the process. I am also getting a bit more encouraged about this movie due to Tirian and others getting pre screenings and having good feedback.

  8. Brian in Calgary says:

I am very encouraged by this interview. I am very likely not going to catch Douglas Gresham's cameo (since I didn't catch them in the first two movies).

  9. Mina says:

I still can't find in LWW, but thanks to Ben Barnes I know which voice is his in PC…

  10. Mina says:

Sorry – forgot the word him in there.

  11. SavedByGrace says:

I love how he is not afraid to tell others that he's a Christian! I love how he says he 'cheats, i.e. prays a lot'. That was a great article.

BTW, what kind of magazine is Relevant? Just wondering…

  12. HighQueenofNarnia says:

Well, I could tell you which voice he is in LWW, but would you rather guess or do you want me to tell you?
Anyway, I really do respect and admire Doug Gresham quite a bit, and envy him too- the lucky man had C. S. Lewis for a stepfather!!

  13. Mina says:

I'd rather cheat like him, and have you tell me. After all I had to get the cast tell me in PC. =D

  14. Warrior 4 Jesus says:

Relevant magazine provides a Christian look at popular culture and important issues of faith and other areas of life.

  15. elizabeth says:

he was the radio in the 1st movie( before susan turns it off) he also had a cameo in the 2nd where he says "a son, atc" hope that helps

  16. elizabeth says:

    2nd movie also, sorry

  17. Mayor Wilkins says:

    I love Mr. Gresham.
He has such a soothing voice. Almost Aslan-like in a way. I love hearing him talk about Narnia on the "LWW" commentaries and documentaries. Such a great love for the stories and the characters. You can tell, even in print here, how much Narnia means to him.

I was so glad when he said that critics opinions don't matter that much to him and that he's proud of the first two and now the third film. That made me smile.

I wonder if Douglas Gresham ever did a "Book on Tape" version of "LWW." I would love to hear him read the story aloud. 😀

  18. always narnian says:

Hey what happened to the most recent post about the 'TV Spot'? I watched it.

  19. Mina says:

Oh, he's the radio annoucer! I knew who he was in PC. I'll never find him in Dawn Treader.

  20. mdposs says:

Having lived with Doug and family when they were in Ireland, I can agree with all the comments made here. He's fascinating to listen to, and has a story for everything. I've heard for years his desire to make these movies, and am going into each new one fully confident that I can trust Doug to make sure they're done right. Dawn Treader is the best of the lot, I think. And if you know Doug, you can pick him out right away in the slave market scene. It's sort of a Where's Waldo in the first two movies. 🙂
