This weekend, most, if not all of the Regal Cinemas across the United States will be hosting a special event tomorrow or Sunday in honor of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. We reported on one in Massachusetts here, but if you’re near a Regal Cinema, it might be worth giving them a call to see what kind of party they have planned in your area!

‘Dawn Treader’ Gets the MOPS Seal of Approval

Posted December 9, 2010 1:27 pm by Tirian 50 Comments

Valerie Bell is an author and speaker and the Board Chair for MOPS International (Mothers of Preschoolers). She has sent out the following endorsement for the film:

Narnia is back and better than ever!

Recently, I had an opportunity to preview the newest movie based on the Chronicles of Narnia. Walking into the theater I could feel myself lowering my expectations to avoid the inevitable disappointment. After all, “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” is a classic. Translated, that means there are plenty of places where it can go wrong on film.

But that night I was pleasantly surprised. I was awed by the film’s spectacular beauty, fierce adventure, delightful humor and spiritually-teachable moments.

Sometimes people of faith have a legitimate concern that Hollywood studios produce movies lacking a moral compass. But what about when Hollywood gets it right – is there some way we can “vote” so that more inspiring films like this will be made? Yes, at the box office. Opening weekend box receipts are critical to a film’s success. It’s the barometer that measures whether more of the same genre will ever be made.

So here’s my suggestion: Attend “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” this weekend (opening Friday, December 10, 2010). Call your family, email or Facebook your friends; invite your whole MOPS group for this terrific film! Then, show up in droves at the theater this weekend. If your MOPS group attends, take time afterwards to unpack the spiritual truths about temptation, self-image struggles and grace presented in this wonderful film.

Be aware that the littlest ones may be too stimulated to attend. But for the rest of us, grab a row of seats and let yourself be swept away to the places in the soul where Aslan reigns and every boy and girl (or every dad and mom) is king or queen. This is classic C.S. Lewis. The best Narnia yet, in my opinion! And while you’re enjoying the film, know that your vote for excellent movies with uplifting spiritual themes will send Hollywood a strong message.

Devin Brown’s ‘Dawn Treader’ Review

Posted December 9, 2010 12:17 pm by glumPuddle 42 Comments

Lewis scholer Devin Brown has posted his review for Fox/Walden’s film adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ enduring classic, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Here is a excerpt from the beginning where, before giving this thoughts on the film, he talks about his adaptation philsophy.

Certainly most Lewis fans have a list of things they would have done differently if they had been brought on as a consultant for the first two Narnia films, and I am no exception. And I am firm believer that a film adaptation cannot be (or at least should not be) just anything the filmmakers want it to be. But is it possible to get beyond mere statements of preference—where one person finds a blemish and another expresses approval, statements which have a way of being uttered as if they were absolute truth? (“Opening with the bombing of London was a total mistake.” “The bombing scene was a brilliant way to begin the film.”)

One way to do this might be to distinguish between thematic changes—Do the films say what the books say?—and cinematic changes, changes made in order to adapt a book to a different medium.

So what did he think? Read on!

YahooMovies has a new exclusive clip of a dragon “attacking” the Dawn Treader.

What’s really fun is thinking back to a little over a year ago when we were sent video of them filming this scene! If you weren’t around then, you can see our coverage on it here and here.

Dawn Treader Soundtrack — Only Available Online?

Posted December 8, 2010 12:19 pm by fantasia_kitty 85 Comments

We hadn’t heard before Tuesday, when the soundtrack for The Voyage of the Dawn Treader went on sale, that it might not be available for purchase in stores. However, it seems that none of our forum members have been able to find it. So we’re curious, has anyone found a copy in a local store? And if so, which ones?

First Numbers Up on BoxOfficeMojo

Posted December 7, 2010 10:55 pm by fantasia_kitty 11 Comments

BoxOfficeMojo has a few numbers on their site now from last weekend’s The Voyage of the Dawn Treader totals. Unfortunately I don’t have The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe or Prince Caspian‘s weekly foreign box office numbers to compare to, but for what it’s worth, you can check them out here. (And ignore their release dates, they’re almost all wrong.)
We also have Hong Kong’s totals on our forum here and it was confirmed that it made more than PC but less than LWW.
