A friend of mine who lives overseas saw it yesterday.
They said that The Green Mist actually worked (for the movie) and they also thought The White Witch added something. I guess opinions are going to vary widely today and in the days to come.

I fully expect to love this movie. 😉
    Cheers!

  2. Lucylove says:

I hope it'll be good enough to make all the other books in to movies!

  3. Narnia-Fan1 says:

I was at the world premiere in london and I got to see it a week ago. I don't think I dislike this movie but in some points gpuddle you're absolutely right! the story is sooooo fast driven and the character developpement (when there is any at all) is very cheap and there is no real dialogue at all. PC had such nice interactions between the characters and they were quite believable. And especially the character of Edmund is soooooo cheesy and cheap. I had the feeling of his "temptation" that they thought: well we have no temptation for Edmund…So let's just simply put some glittering gold in this cave. common! He's a king of narnia who was very mature in the last film. He's not some foolish kid who gets crazy because of a piece of gold! These two things were the things I absolutely disliked about this movie. And I really didn't like the special effects when the dark island gets destroyed. But still, go and see it yourself! It's still overall a nice film and I think it stays mostly true to the spirit of the book.

way to go, Mayor Wilkins. I noticed you and Glumpuddle didn't always get along, so when you commented back to me, I wasn't sure what to say because I felt like I was being such a total jerk anyway, and I didn't what others to feel like I was chosing sides and trying to start a war.

But wow, that's really decent of you! 🙂 And I appreciated all those times you commented back to me. I just didn't know how to say it without starting something. So if I feel I'm going to start a fight I sometimes try to keep my mouth shut…

But I did want you to know, I appreciated your kindness and support! 🙂 I wasn't ignoring you!

I respect both your opinions, Gp and MW! 🙂

  5. Pepper Darcy says:

narnian1, thanks! I think I'm getting back my enthusiasim now 🙂 And yes, I know that's spelled wrong 🙂 I know Tirian like it, and that was really encouraging 🙂

And it's not that I disrepect GP, but he is a Mod, so you pay special attention to what he says because he actually knows what he's talking about– he is a mod. after all.

People like me, I don't know what I'm talking about. It's fluff, so I usually pay attention to the Mods' opinions and stuff 🙂

  6. Pepper Darcy says:

you have my pity! I'd die if i had to wait that long! 🙁

  7. Pepper Darcy says:

when are you going to see it Wilkins? If you post a review, I'd like to read it! 🙂

  8. narnian1 says:

I wish you luck for your viewing, may you enjoy it as many of us have. 🙂

  10. Mangolite says:

This will be the third and final film of the Narnia Franchise. It's the old saying, it's the final nail in the coffin according to the lukewarm to pure negative reviews from you and top critics. However, I planned to go watch tomorrow in 3D as a show of support and plus, I am just a movie buff (FYI, I don't just go to any movie-The theme of the movie has to interest me). Next week is TRON, also a movie that had been on my list.

  11. Shastafan says:

I'm sorry, gP! I agree that the messages of the book should be just as strong in the movie. Even if you absolutely dislike the movie for the rest of your life, I hope there's at least one positive thing about the movie that you liked. 🙁 😉

  12. Ballerina says:

Oh, what a special Christmas gift! 😉

  13. Clive Staples Sibelius says:

glumPuddle, if it makes you feel better, Michael Flaherty said in a recent interview with BigHollywood.com that the film was about "our longing for our true home." I'm pretty sure he was thinking of you when he said that. Hopefully in an attempt to make you like the film. I'm sorry it was so disappointing, though it's what I've heard in general. I haven't seen it yet myself.

  14. Ballerina says:

Hmm, what should I think for myself now? Well, first of all, my condolences go out to glumPuddle. I've seen your comments on NarniaWeb for months and to read that you didn't enjoy the film, is heartbreaking. I'm so sorry! :'-( Maybe when you watch it for a second time it'll seem different, hopefully speaking 🙂 Well, I'm watching it tomorrow, and will no doubt give my review of it as well. Oh, I hope it'll be good! I had noticed from TV Spot's that the children's acting isn't as good, but we'll just have to wait and see. At least, The Horse and His Boy is my favorite book and VDT my second/third!

Again, my condolences go out to EVERYONE who's hearts have been broken when they went go see this film. Who were so excited to see it but hated it in the end. I am truly, very sorry. 🙁

  15. : )Narnia says:

I'll be seeing the movie sunday and I think I have three points I'd like to make known. #1 I think I'd like to give the director another change at making a fourth movie, however I probably would prefer Andrew Adamson's as director. #2 I would hesitate to say this movie is a failure as I think the push of the movie might be to make the money for the continuation of the series. #3 I want to judge for myself whether I enjoy the movie or not.

  16. Amelia says:

*I* have to wait until it's on DVD! My folks don't really like Narnia and wouldn't let me go see it in the theatre. :'-( :'-( :'-(

  17. SirCC says:

I greatly enjoyed it. Sure it had a few strange lines and the whole mist thing was a bit strange, but it was NOT shallow. The movie is about the characters, (and in particular how they tell the progression of Eustace's character is quite nice). The movie is not the book, its an adaptation. And just because they change a few things doesn't mean that Jack (C. S. Lewis) wasn't able to be seen within it. The movie is almost entirely about the lessons that Jack would have wanted told…and he would be (is) very pleased and proud of the movie, just as the book.

If you want the book, then read it. If you want the movie, then go see a thousand times, so that they make four more.

  18. : )Narnia says:

I really agree with the last paragraph. Definetely my thoughts on it.

  19. Clive Staples Sibelius says:

What did you think of David Arnold's score? I had hopes at least for that, but none of the samples that were up on Amazon bore that hope to higher heights. Quite the opposite. Did the score do more than just function?

  20. Sandy says:

JUST GO AND SUPPORT THE MOVIE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!! So what if GP didn't like it….doesn' mean you won't. It's just entertainment!!! I wholeheartedly agree with Daniel. If we don't support the film, the Narnia franchise is DEAD!!!!!!!!! I like The Narnia films better than Harry Potter.

  21. narnian says:

Gpuddle r u the same from youtube?? if you r, I really hate all of ur work!! u say things that r so stupid!! the movie is based ok, i love the book and the movie, they r 2 different things!! a book is a book a movie is a movie. The movie is awesome first of all, the movie had every important detail from the book!! the movie was short but beautifull!! my dad went out with a hudge smile on his face because of the awsome movie he just saw!!! so dont put comments like u r the "I know it all" if u knew that you would not like the movie, then why the heck u went to waste ur time!!!! go read the book and shut up!! im so tiered of ur stupid comments!! go direct the movie!! im sure that it would b a verry borring movie!!! u only like movies copy paste from the book, and a movie dos not work like that!! Fans the movie is awsome, is a verry sentimental movie and the destransformation is beautiful!!!! im gonna see it tomorrow again!!! yey!!!!!

  22. : )Narnia says:

So am I the only one who thinks glumpuddle lives up to his name??

  23. Caspian X says:

I am DYING to see the movie. What is it like ? I"ve only seen commercials but it looked awesome !!! If you have seen it please tell me what it"s like or what you thought of it.

  24. Pepper Darcy says:

I saw your comment on my blog, Amelia and thought, OH NO! Seriously?

You really have my pity, Amelia! I'm not even sure when it comes out! 🙁

  25. Pepper Darcy says:

you might not agree with him, but it doesn't mean he's stupid… am I stupid? Like yeah, but just because you disagree with GP it doesn't make him suddenly stupid. I'm not saying you're stupid either. Neither of you are. But that's a tad harsh, you know?

  26. Princess Lucy says:

Thankyou McGunn ….i dnt really like the mist and swords idea either..hehehehe…i hope we will enjoy the film and most of the scenes are from the book…so thats great news…tell me what you think!!! 😉

  27. SirCC says:

The movie was almost entirely about the special lines. Edmund didn't mind not coming back, because he found to accept the home he is needed in, he came to a need to find his "other name" in his world, to want to. Aslan will always be in Narnia, but he will also always be on Earth, and the characters came to understand that throughout the entire film, and not just one single line. Edmund found home to be where he belonged, Lucy found to accept herself for who she is, and Eustace came to trust in Aslan (Christ) and that he doesn't have the power to do everything on his own (he couldn't do it on his own, until Aslan came). By finding themselves, the characters found Aslan (Christ), they found the power within themselves to always see Aslan, even when he cannot be seen.

  28. Princess Lucy says:

    Meeeeee tooooooooo!!!..hehhee

  29. FriendOfNarnia2 says:

I think glumPuddle could make a GREAT Narnia film! (And I hope he does someday). Aren't you majoring in something that is movie related, glumPuddle? I think that in 20 years the entire series will be rebooted, then maybe you'll get your opportinuty! 🙂

  30. gstommylee says:

Just cause critics don't like it doesn't mean it can't be a success and they can go on to make the next book into a movie.

  31. DamselJillPole says:

    Seeing it today =D

  32. Narniafreak says:

I think VDT was great! I love everything in this movie!
I hope to see The Silver Chair!

  36. gstommylee says:

I plan to see soon and hope too there will be the SC as the rest of them.

  37. Duffleglum says:

A friend of mine told me that she hated PC, thought LWW was sorta okay…
But she said that VDT was "really good :D"

gP just can't stop being a book-movie mirror fanatic, so don't mind the old bear.

  38. Daniel James says:

I loved the movie!!! I walked in there expecting disappointment, but I was quite pleasantly surprised! For the first 15ish minutes, I could barely even comprehend that I was FINALLY actually watching the movie, because I was so excited. I will admit, the first 30ish minutes were a little rushed and choppy, but it was still great!
The battle at the Lone Islands was a fun little skirmish, and Eustace was hilarious there!
The magician's island was funny, and I just can't get over the Dufflepuds. They were hilarious! "Yeah. Yeah. … Yeah."
Goldwater/Dragon Island was awesome too, and dragon Eustace was spectacular! Definitely the best CGI dragon I've ever seen (Smaug is the only dragon who could even think of potentially beating him).
The battle with the Sea Serpent had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. It was absolutely epic. Even the Kracken from "Clash of the Titans" would have been scared of THIS sea serpent.
I had been a little worried about Eustace's un-dragoning before I walked into the movie, but I loved the way they did it! Obviously, they couldn't do it exactly how it was in the book while keeping it PG (a lion ripping the skin off a boy!), but the way they did it was great, and the cinematography was awesome. You could tell that it hurt, and that Eustace didn't EARN it or anything.
The ending…oh what can I say about it? I loved it! So emotional; I see why Her Majesty the Queen of England cried. Lucy's hug with Reepicheep, him going to Aslan's Country, Aslan's "But there I have another name" line…it was all fantastic.
I have to say, I disagree with GlumPuddle about the character development. I thought that all the main characters had really good development, especially considering that it was less than 2 hours.
The green smoke was a little weird in some parts …but I understand why they did it. The White Witch was great, I didn't have to worry about her.
Oh what else…This movie had a different feel from the other two, but overall, I think I liked this one the best! I watched it in 3D, and I liked how they used that. It didn't have much stuff popping out at you, but that's (in my opinion) a good thing. I like 3D better as just an addition of depth to the movie than a distraction (like it is in some other movies). I'm definitely going to watch it at least a few more times in theaters.

Overall, I highly recommend the movie; I think it was my favorite of all three movies. It was a little slow in the beginning, but it really picked up pace around the Magician's Island, and from there, it was spectacular. Visually, stunning. Emotionally satisfying. I'll give it a 4.8/5. =D

  39. Eviliini says:

🙂 Maybe he does. But those of us who have been here for years know he's usually right.

  40. coracle says:

Glum, hope you will go and see it a few more times, and look into it a bit more in depth. It's a film made for families, suitable for all but very young children. It has a lot of material to cover, and keeps up a fast pace. Once you have got used to this, I hope you will see things you do like.

  41. NewMillenium says:

    I have a dollar theater too. They're great 🙂

But I'm going to see it before it goes on there…

  42. Noogah says:

Yeah, I had a feeling you'd feel that way about it. I loved it, myself.

  43. NarnianRailway says:

Given the "commercialized" nature of today's film industry, should the film not be up to one's expectations, that makes the books all the more precious. And I deeply appreciate the insight of others, that I may understand what C.S. Lewis was saying in the books.

C.S. Lewis's writing was brilliant introducing us to the world of Narnia. I shall view the film as someone trying to recall the story (and adding a small adventure or two). I know I will love the film because it is a return to Narnia. Then, I will re-read the books again and enjoy Lewis's telling of Narnia all the more.

  44. yeswelovenarnia says:

I really like this review Daniel, Thanks so much for posting it! I feel a little bit better now about the movie!! I get to see it tomorrow in 3D and am soo excited!!!

  45. Annabeth says:

thanks Daniel, that really helped me, I was so nervous to the point of tears, but your review made my dad a LOT better. 🙂
(plus you did a good job covering all the important scenes too! :D)

  46. fireheart209 says:

I'm so sorry you were disappointed. I know how much you loved this book in particular. I hope you still do an analysis on your youtube page–I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts more in depth. But I understand if you want to take a break.

  47. Annabeth says:

Farsight1….you are my hero! You are so right, and i want to applaud your bravery to step up and say "Once a Narnia fan, ALWAYS a Narnia fan" No matter what happens, no matter what people think…. okay, I'm sorry, i sound like I'm giving a campaign speech. Wow, amazing what being a Narniac does to you. 😉
But really, thank you. that was EXACTLY what i needed, and you are so right.

  48. Lucylu says:

Im going to go see it tonight!!!

  49. Savber100 says:

Oh? And your response to gP's personal opinions is not 'stupid'? Better realize that not everything or anyone is going to always agree with YOUR opinion. If you don't like negative opinions, good for you. But make it personal by insulting the person's intelligence and you're the problem not him.

  50. : )Narnia says:

Maybe some would prefer to decide for themselves… I have listened to the podcast for a while and he has had some great opinions.

  51. fireheart209 says:

Glunpuddle has never claimed to "know it all"–here or anywhere else. His is just one person's opinion and he has every right to post it here. He is also not the only person who thought the movie could have been better. He also does not "only like copy and paste from the book". If you listen to his reviews, he liked Prince Caspian quite a bit despite the deviations from the source material. He also doesn't call people names if they don't agree with him.
What specifically did you like about the movie and why? The dragon transformation is something I am very much looking forward to seeing. I would love to hear your thoughts on it. But please refrain from slander and name calling.

  52. trinity-hawkeye says:

we are going to see THE MOVIE ON SUNDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! as a family/friends groups, I will handed the tickets!!!!!!!

  53. Lucy Helen Ycul says:

I thought that it was an amazing movie. I was upset when in the Susan (Lucy) sequence when Ed and Peter said "Who's Lucy?" and "What's Narnia"? I cried when Reepicheep left and when Lucy and Ed were talk that they weren't coming back. I can't wait to see the movie again!

  54. FriendOfNarnia2 says:

Knowing more of the spoilers than you did going into it, I guessed that you probably wouldn't like it. "Won't be subtle enough for him", I said to myself.

I know you've always talked about the theme of the story being "finding ones true home, and ultimately the joy of finding it." Well, that could be one theme, but I really don't think it is as strong as the themes of redemption and temptation. I guess it just depends on how you look at it. It's just unfortunate for you that the filmmakers didn't focus on the themes from the book you got out of it.

I mean, if you think about it, Reepicheep only mentions Aslans country a couple of times in the book too.

  55. Lucy Helen Ycul says:

    * told that they weren't coming back

  56. Eliseo says:

I have to admit that I too am not a fan of glumpuddles YouTube videos. But he doesn't deserve to be called stupid either. Everyone is entitled to their opinion on the movie. That said, his ability and time to put up 'analysis trailers' and such doesn't make him anymore an expert than those of us who have also read the books and adored them. What bothers me is his ability to influence peoples opinions who might otherwise enjoy the films. His negativity is a turnoff and please remember to judge the films on your own. Your opinion counts too. I personally liked the movie.

  57. Amelia says:

    Great review!!! Thanks!

  58. Starlily says:

I'm not trying to be mean, narnian, but it's hard to give credibility to someone who doesn't use grammar correctly. And if you don't like glumPuddle's videos or comments, it certainly won't do any good to just call them "stupid" without an explanation. At least gP manages to explain his opinions.

Sorry. I just think you should think about what you're saying before you post, that's all. People are more willing to listen to you if you're thoughtful and use logic to explain yourself.
