Ah PrinceCor, a guy after my own heart.PrinceCor wrote:Now, most of these artists or groups I only like a select few of their songs. Some, though, I like enough to buy a whole album of their work.
Is there anyone else here who likes this type of music?
I love classic rock and soundtracks as well, although I have a very eclectic taste ranging from mellow and folksy—think older Bebo Norman—right through to really edgy stuff such as Haste the Day, my favourite hard band: good words, excellent melodies (when they're not screaming—I'm not as fond of that
), and great voices. As with stargazer, PC's list stirs abundant memories. I've never been a Beatles fan (please don't whomp me
); of your list Chicago would definitely be top 'o my list
(I do with this clapping smiley has more "oomph" to it). Various others (Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, the Doobie Brothers) have a place in my Thumbs Up musical taste as well, although, like you, I am selective as to which songs I listen. Right up there with Chicago, 'though a very different style, is The Carpenters. To me, Karen's voice envelops all I love in a female voice—it's rich, warm, heartfelt, and so natural. Every time I hear a song by her I ... melt.
I also fondly remember Bachman Turner Overdrive, Captain and Tennille, Bee Gees,The Beach Boys (man, I still can't get over their crisp, tight harmony in their such-fun-songs!), Steely Dan, Simon & Garfunkel, The Guess Who, among others. A band I have recently come to like, even though they've been around for a long time, is Led Zepplin. Again, I'm picky as to which songs I take in, but wow, such fantastic instrumentals! I'm listening to "When the Levee Breaks" right now and whoa!
As gazer mentioned, Second Chapter of Acts is a favourite. I recommend any of their albums, but I have a special fondness for "The Roar of Love", the musical story of ... The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
In the same vintage is Phil Keaggy, who truly must be one of the top guitarists in the world. There is nothing like seeing him perform live! Now, soundtracks
: they quite stir one's emotions like little else, especially in relation to the stories they are enveloping. All time favourite (betcha can guess): The Lord of the Rings Complete Recordings. I'm gradually building my soundtrack collection up: next to purchase is one of the Harry Potter CDs. Not sure which is the best, though. *pops over to the Soundtrack thread to ask*And, again, very different from anything I've mentioned above, I dearly love old hymns, obviously for more than just the music.
*sigh* Pardon the length: it seems I am destined forever to write long posts.
