Ben Barnes Talks Dawn Treader

There are several interviews with Ben Barnes surfacing these days due to his role in the soon-to-be-released Dorian Gray.

From EveningTimes.co.uk:

He is excited to be reprising the role in The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader and says: “We have been rehearsing and training with swords so it is very exciting. I am the king now and it is good to be the king!”

Sensing he could be called back on set, there is just time to mention less ‘king-like’ ventures – his appearance on the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004 when he was a member of short-lived boy band Hyrise.

“I did it as a favour for someone,” he says. “I just thought, ‘Nobody will know about it and it will be a fun thing to do for a couple of weeks.’ Lo and behold YouTube strikes again and manages to destroy nearly every interview I have ever done!”

Read the full interview here.

From Telegraph.co.uk:

“There are some big pitched battles in this one, swords and action,” he reveals when pondering his forthcoming adventure, “although this film is more about magic, creatures and discovery. I am looking forward to seeing Caspian a few years later, as a king, playing a character that isn’t so vulnerable and fragile this time around. And playing a king, I think that has to be pretty cool. The king is in charge, for a start, although then the kids turn up and they kind of [steal his thunder] a bit!

“But I am looking forward to it. After all, as a kid you dream of wielding swords in a fantasy adventure.”

And finally the YouTube video. Ben doesn’t actually talk about The Voyage of the Dawn Treader here, but he was interviewed at the set, so you can see exactly what his hair and beard will look like.

Special thanks to Daredevil for the heads-up!

I know, I am such a hypocrite. I'm always picking on people for posting "FIRST" as if it matters, and as if we can't see that. But I simply cannot resist the urge to write "FIRST. EVER. ON THE NEW NARNIAWEB." Continuing my hypocrisy, I will also add something to make it seem like my comment is relevent to this story and should not be deleted: I don't like the hair or the beard.

2nd is good! Sail on VDT!!!

  3. mm1991 says:

Now that I can see it somewhat clearly…I'm starting to not like the whole beard thing…

  4. dw4 says:

yes, please. do away with the beard. it's only been 3 narnian years. and he isn't even married yet. please, no beard.

  5. narnian1 says:

I quite like the new look on Caspian, make his look older than in PC.

  6. GreyPilgrim says:

Maybe the whole beard thing can work, in terms of looking slightly corny (read youthful) now, and then have it be full blown "Return of the King" style bushy for his brief cameos in The Silver Chair as an old king. Even though it’s only been 3 Narnian years so what, wouldn’t that make him like in his early twenties? People; guys in their 20s can and do grow beards I can assure you, and for the whole underlying Medieval/Renaissance feel of the Narnian films/story line, I think it definitely fits, as does the longer hair.

P.s.- glumPuddle; not to add to the already thoroughly overwhelming amount of hypocrisy so ripe in your post, but it would be rude of me to not point out that currently my post is the LAST post on the new Narniaweb site, and you know what they say about the Last actually being the first.. ;p

  7. Eavis says:

I don't know, I think it isn't so bad…I will wait until more pictures come out to pronounce DOOM upon it. 😀

  8. Aslan's Meadow says:

I Think it suits Ben perfectaly!
    Glumpuddle…YOU ARE NUTS

  9. iara says:

Nossa quem vem isso eu quero ver o novo filme!!!!!!!!!!!!! um beijo!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. reepicheep775 says:

I'm feeling pretty divided right now. On one hand,“There are some big pitched battles in this one, swords and action,” chills my blood, but,"although this film is more about magic, creatures and discovery." sounds perfect.

  11. InLoveWithAslan says:

I'm still not sure about Ben's beard. I suppose it does make him look more kingly. I'm just not a girl for beards.

  12. Milady of Narnia says:

Being out to sea, I think King Caspian's beard is great!

  13. que padre video de la pelicula bye

  14. pselpevensie says:

cool interviews and video. i'm definatly going to see this movie. BTW why is Narniaweb so different???

  15. daughter of the King says:

pselpevensie, when was the last time you were on this site? The staff has updated it. I'm okay with a beard, but this particular style of beard I'm not so sure about. His hair though, it looks straight out of the seventies.

  16. martin the warrior says:

    i like the beard to.

  17. RumbleBuffinTheStrong says:

I was hoping this movie would have LESS violence. And the hair looks to contemporary for Narnia.

  18. caboo29 says:

what does him not being married have to do with his beard? Still not sure if I like it or not, but this is the way it's going to be so I my as well get used to it. The way Ben is talking makes me wonder if they should have had him sing "I just can't wait to be King"(from Lion King) in PC. He sounds pretty overjoyed, that he's finally in charge of something. ; )

  19. WotJ says:

I'm pretty sure he would be styling the "kingly" cut of his hair in a more modern way for the interview, and will wear it differently in VotDT

  20. Kell says:

I like his hair and beard and I don't like beards at all. I think he looks very kingly and it fits the part that he is playing. Afterall he is the King.

  21. wish~i~could~go~to~narnia~girl says:

You took the words right out of my mouth! It makes him look more mature.

  22. narnian resident says:

glad to hear from him, but whats with this other movie he's in? i dont think i like it. im afraid ben's turning into a shallow person.

  23. Narnia_Queen says:

Ben ur awsome but, HAVE U EVER HERD OF A RAZOR!
(Sorry, Im not trying 2 b mean!)

  24. Narnia_Girl says:

I saw the youtube trailor of Dorian Gray, and i saw him doing inapropiate things with a girl (if u know what i mean!) BEN U STAR IN A CHRISTIAN MOVIE 4 HEVENS SAKE!!!!

  25. Narnia_Girl says:

I totally agree w/ u im afraid what ben is turning into! (shivers)

  26. BenBarnesGal says:

I SAW THAT TOO!!!! IT SO DIRTY! WHY IS HE SURROUNDING HIMSELF WITH NAKED GALS FOR PETE'S SAKE. NOT MUCH OF A GOOD ROLE MODEL BEN.

  27. BenBarnesGal says:

NOT A VERY APROPIATE MOVIE IM AFRAID! =(

  28. BenBarnesGal says:

Ben's new movie "Dorain Gray" is kind of a horror kind of thing. beard is kinda kool.

  29. blarneybaby says:

I agree… it's not like he's go a basin and razor at the ready… I mean, think about it guys… most sailors in this time DID NOT shave!

  30. blarneybaby says:

***not likes he's GOT a basin and razor***

    (sorry I was typing too fast… ;P)

  31. blarneybaby says:

They re-made A Portrait Of Dorian Gray with him as Dorian and Colin Firth as Henry Wotton.

As for appropriateness… who are we to point fingers? It's HIS career and as someone who reads a LOT of classic literature, I think there is a lesson to be learned from Oscar Wilde's book.

  32. blarneybaby says:

One movie has no relation to the other and aren't even by the same studios. The beauty of the Narnia books is that we know who C.S Lewis was and what he believed in, but the REAL beautiful thing is that he didn't throw it in people's faces. He let the lines be drawn on their own without ever having to preach a single word. Besides, the judgment belongs to God, not you, so leave Ben alone. Aslan is ALWAYS ON THE MOVE in regards to EVERYONE. So perhaps instead of casting stones, you should get down on your knees and pray for Ben instead of slandering his choices. Also if you're suggesting that parents not take their children to see VotDT BECAUSE Ben was in Dorian Gray, then who are you? A judgmental Christian who's got such "wonderful" report with the unbelievers? Stick with that… see how many people come to Christ.

    *gets off soapbox*

  33. Fire Fairy says:

GlumPuddle, you have every right to be excited about being first to comment on the new site. I don't think you're crazy. And I kind of agree with you: the beard doesn't seem to suit Ben, but I do think I could get used to it.

  34. Heather says:

I never did like beards, but seeing as there weren't razors back then it would make sense that he has one. Unless he used his knife, or sword, but that could be painful.
True about the "Gray" movie. He is Caspian in this one, and Caspian is a completely different character then Dorian. And I have heard nothing but good things about the director. I don't think we have anything to worry about.

  35. skandargirl_95 says:

    hmm…the beard…
looks okay, but he DOES remind me of someone I've seen in a picture before…
