The VDT Water TanksNew!

This really isn’t much of a news story, but Examiner.com posted about The Voyage of the Dawn Treader filming on the Gold Coast. In their version however, they included two pictures of the water tanks that will be used in the movie that I at least had not seen before. Check them out here. Thanks Lucy P. for the heads up!

The Independent Interviews Ben Barnes

The Independent’s Alice Jones posted an interview with Ben Barnes this morning, in which the actor discusses his sudden rise to fame, some of the stress it’s brought along, and how he feels about hair extensions due to his role in Prince Caspian. He also talks about his work in Easy Virtue and The Picture of Dorian Gray, and the kind of roles he’s looking for in the future. You can read the interview here. Thanks Lucy P. for the link!

Ben Barnes to Star in ’Valediction’

This is slightly old news (hey, better late than never right?) but Ben Barnes has been cast in the movie Valediction. According to an MTV interview with co-star Eliza Dushku, the film centers around a car accident, which leaves Josh’s (Ben) daughter Brooke in a coma. But there’s more to the crash than meets the eye, according to Eliza, who adds that the film is being characterized as a "contemporary psychological thriller." Thanks to everyone who sent this report in!

A Tiny Bit of News about the Ship Herself, the Dawn Treader

NarniaWeb Spy PeaceandLove wrote in to point out an interesting item on the resume of Stephen Morahan, a draughtsman who worked with Michael Apted on The World is Not Enough. The resume includes this job: "NARNIA - THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER, Details of Experience: CAD drawing of Dawn Treader ship hull steelwork for the Art Department including 3D model to check the hull profile, 2007." What this implies is that the ship, the Dawn Treader, has been fully designed and engineered since 2007, probably because the production hadn’t anticipated being pushed back so far. Of course the exciting part is that if the production hasn’t started already, they should start building the Dawn Treader in the next few weeks in anticipation for filming at the end of July and beginning of August!

Almost Eustace

According to the Bearwood College website, one of their students was almost Eustace Clarence Scrubb. Ciaran Cresswell made it clear up to the last six choices for the role of Eustace which ultimately went to Will Poulter, but it’s fun to see what might have been. You can read about Ciaran and see his picture here. Thanks to icarus for the heads up!

The Lamps that Inspired Lewis in Danger of Being Extinguished

From Malverngazette.co.uk: The future of the gas lamps has once again been raised after parish councils around Malvern were hit with unexpected top-up bills to pay for their maintenance and running. The lamps were the inspiration for a scene in Lewis’s much-loved novel The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Malvern currently has 102 gas lamps, split between the parishes of Malvern town, the Wells and West Malvern. The three councils were shocked to receive bills for maintaining the lamps from Malvern Hills District Council, over and above the previously-agreed figures. The Wells was charged an extra £1400, Malvern town £639, and West Malvern £798. Wells parish chairman Malcolm Victory is promoting a suggestion that the lamps could be sponsored to keep them going. He hopes the idea can be put on the agenda at the next parish council meeting on June 24. Read the full story here. Thanks to Lucy P. for the heads up.

Charity Volunteers Find Rare Narnia First Edition

From RomseyAdvertiser.co.uk: An unexpected treasure has been discovered by two sharp-eyed charity bookshop volunteers. Christine and Robert Williams were sorting through the latest delivery of donations to the National Trust’s second-hand bookshop at Mottisfont, when they came across a small, hardback book, complete with beautifully illustrated dust jacket. It was a rare 1956 first edition of the children’s novel, The Last Battle, by C.S. Lewis, which could be worth £1,000. "I think we knew we had something special as soon as we picked the book up," says Christine. "It was in excellent condition, though obviously quite old, with the most beautiful images on the jacket and inside. When we realised it was not a re-print, we were pretty excited!" The book is now going to auction through Woolley & Wallis at Salisbury on June 17 (lot 33), with an estimate of £700 - £1,000. Read the full article here.
