Shaw Festival to Stage Another Narnia Play in 2019

Narnia fans may have more than one opportunity to see original stage versions of The Horse and His Boy in North America next year! The Shaw Festival’s version of The Magician’s Nephew opened to excellent reviews earlier this year, and will continue to stage performances this fall. Building off that success, The Standard reported today that one of the plays in next year’s line up is an original version of The Horse and His Boy adapted by Anna Chatterton and directed by Christine Brubaker. Although performance dates for the individual plays next season have not yet been announced, according to the Shaw Festival’s official website, the 2019 season will run April 6th – December 22nd next year. The Logos Theatre will also be staging a production of The Horse and His Boy in 2019.

Steven Sutcliffe as Uncle Andrew and Travis Seeto as Digory

Tickets are not available to the general public for either production yet, but there are still tickets available for The Magician’s Nephew at shawfest.com.

So cool! Wish I could see both plays. Or at least one of them. Mostly people just adapt "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe." "The Magician's Nephew" and "The Horse and his Boy" are my favorite Narnia books. I'd love to see more adaptations of them.

  2. Yes it would be nice to go to North America to see such plays but I'd need to be able to teleport, disapparate or something of the sort. Not going to happen, unfortunately.

If you hear of any Narnia plays outside of North America please do send us a spy report! My Google skills only go so far.

Maybe less than 17 days until we might get some Silver Chair news! Anyway, it's nice to have a shiny new post to comment on! Who do you think will turn out the better version of the Horse and His Boy, Shaw or Logos Theatre? I think the battle scene would be a challenge to recreate on stage; they would have to do something other than the cavalry battle described in the book.
P.S.- a little note on the Arpit Sadh rumor; apparently a 16 year old Indian kid did make an application on the auditioning website Casting Calls Hub, albeit for some other film. This at least confirms that there is a young aspiring actor of that name- though we have yet to confirm that this is the same one Steven Gresham mentioned in his post in July.
P.P.S.- for those who are voting for Narnia, don't forget to put in a good word for Pilgrim's Progress!

I wonder will they record and release videos of these plays?
