First Report from the Cleveland Point Set

Posted September 4, 2009 1:24 am by fantasia_kitty

NarniaWeb Spy Tamara went to the first day of shooting at The Voyage of the Dawn Treader Cleveland Point set. She was kind enough to send us this report.

I went to Cleveland Point this morning and had a look at the set. There were trucks, cranes, tent and trailers everywhere and we could only see in through this one small gap. There were these army camouflage looking tents set up right next to the fence with people all inside on laptops. Camera equipment was all stored in another tent. There were people everywhere, including extras which were in costume and looked like they were going to be the ship crew. (They wore white shirts, deep red vests, blue pants and black knee high boots and all were dark skinned and had beards lol). There were also more crew and extras on the deck of the ship as well, and judging by the huge amount of equipment and vehicles on the ground right in front, it definitely looked like they were going to film on the deck today. But it was really cloudy and looked like it was going to rain so I hope that it doesn’t mess it up for them!

About 500 metres down the road there was another section fenced off with catering tents, trailers, buses, trucks etc and we saw more extras in shuttle buses getting driven to the set.

It looks so exciting and I would love to stay there all day, every day just watching it all! I’ve attached some photos but I apologise, they aren’t too great because I only had my iphone one me..

You can see in the pictures how high the mast is going to be, and the second lantern is lit!

Tamara, thank you very much for sending us your report and pictures!

  • Maria says:

Hmm…I see someone in a blue vest?

    • Lady_Liln says:

Mmm-hmm, I noticed that as well. I’m not sure who it could be though, as the graying hair seems to old to be Rynelf or Rhince and I’m not sure that a small extra would have a different colored uniform.

      Just thinking out loud.

BTW, I love this new reply feature!

  • yeswelovenarnia says:

i just noticed and it probably has nothing to do with the film but i think there is a swingset in the last photo. filming next to a park do you suppose?

    • Mirage says:

Yes, it is actually set up right next to a small playground XD Going next weekend as well. It’s right on the edge of that part of the coast, with a great view of the other islands scattered about. There’s a little cafe and whatnot there as well. I went there in mid-August and on the 5th of September, so…yesterday, but they weren’t filming maybe because of Skandar’s birthday. Going next weekend as well, to hopefully see some filming.

  • InLoveWithAslan says:

Cool. Thanks for the pictures. Are people allowed to get that close to the set, cast, and crew?

    • Tamara says:

Yep, you can get that close, there’s just that fence keeping everyone out. That was the only place to see anything though, all along the fence was blocked with trucks etc. So I think they expected people to want to come and see, especially since we have neverrr had anything like this in our area before! Everyone’s really curious!

  • Malfhok says:

Lovely redesign! The photo gallery on this post comes up way to big when you click a picture and I have to scroll a lot to see all of the picture.

Are the podcast entries going to start showing up in the main news feed? Or do they have some other method of notification of new posts?

  • AJAiken says:

Are the pictures incredibly huge for everyone? Is there something wrong with my computer, or is it supposed to be like that?

  • ~Lava~ says:

Is the costumed guy with what looks like a dew rag on his head Douglas Gresham? It looks king of like him from the back, there are no frontal pics on him though. I am looking at pic 1.

  • Elizabeth says:

    Nice pictures!!! Happy Birthday Skandar!:)

  • daughter of the King says:

This is just a random guess, but since the lantern is lit, were they perhaps filming either the beginning of the storm sequence or possibly the dark island?

  • pselpevensie says:

    so cool!

  • tolkienlewisfan says:

Well…it’s about time! Let’s hurry up filmers so we can enjoy the film before we die. This is atleast a good sign that they are actually planning to make it. I’m not going to say I can’t wait because I’m still curious about how this new director will do. They better not take it any further off the line than PC went (though it was still a fun movie). Well I’m interested in seeing how this turns out!

  • Me Sa U Sa says:

    Cool.
