James McAvoy to Star in X-Men: First Class

From Borys Kit at The Hollywood Reporter: James McAvoy has signed on to play a young Charles Xavier, aka Professor X, in “X-Men: First Class,” which Matthew Vaughn is directing for Fox. According to Fox, “First Class” will “chart the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Eric Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were the closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.” James McAvoy played Mr. Tumnus the faun in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Thanks to all who sent this in.

Cool! I saw about half a minute of one of his other projects besides LWW. (The one where he was nominated for best kiss, and no, the part I watched wasn't the kiss.) So I can't say I know he's an great actor until I've seen him play someone other than Tumnus. But still, I wish him the best of luck!

  11. chirpingbird says:

Yes, what kind if actor are you? Just curious. 🙂

He's an… interesting choice for Charles Xavier. I never would have picked him for the role, but I hope he can pull it off!

Oh, Professor X's the good guy right? He's not the guy who played Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings? Ok. Good.
Yay! I like X-Men! Is it going to be the same director who did X-Men Origins: Wolverine? And the same composer? Harry Gregson-Williams? Who also did the firt two Narnia movies? I hope so! I don't suppose Wolverine will be in the movie. . .darn. Will it be in theaters soon? I'm so sorry for all my questions! 🙂

Well, I'm fairly sure that he'll pull it off, but I wouldn't really be able to tell. I'm somewhat of a movie recluse and don't really come out of my shell to watch movies very often. Unless, of course, it's NARNIA!!!! Or a good family movie. But anyway, enough about my movie habits. I don't know a lot about Prof. X or whoever it is, but I'm sure James will be great portraying him.

James McAvoy had been in other movies and he's a fine actor. I have seen him in WANTED with Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman. I wanted to see LAST KING OF SCOTLAND with Forest Whitaker (another underrated great actor) and ATONEMENT with Keira Knightley.

Interesting, net rumors had suggested this movie would be about the X-Men team members as teenagers. I guess they combined that idea with the Magneto prequel idea. I doubt Wolverine will factor into this movie, going by comic book history and it wouldn't really fit with what we've seen in the movies.

  17. Omac the centaur says:

Im not. i just like making movies. short 2 minute 1s. 😛

  18. Last King of Narnia says:

Yes I'm a professional actor with an agent. I work mainly in Dallas with plays and musicals but on occasion I jaunt up to NY for Broadway and/or Off-Broadway auditions as well as LA for film work but I havn't been very succesful in LA.

  19. Estas says:

i'm very very very very dissapointed. in my opinion patrick stewart is the only person i can see playing prof x. he actually looks the part. i kinda wish they'd do a sequel instead of a prequel. shouldn't jean grey have been revived by the pheonix entity and return to normal like in the original cartoon and comics series it was close to. and after the credits in the third film you here the prof talking even though he should have been dead.

  20. Bookwyrm says:

Yeah, but there is no Phoenix Force in the movie. They had the Phoenix just be Jean's crazed alternate personality, an epic fail on the moviemakers' part, imo.

Wow, when they say "young" Professor X, they really mean young. >.>
