‘Dawn Treader’ Goes Up Against ‘The Fighter’

Looks like The Voyage of the Dawn Treader isn’t going to have a weekend release to itself anymore (in the USA that is). Paramont Pictures has decided to release The Fighter, starring Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, and Amy Adams on December 10th as well. The full story is available here. Also, for those that are interested, I’ve compiled a current list of US releases in the months of November and December that can be seen on the forum here.

    First Comment! Wow.

Not too good. Christian Bale is relatively big!

  2. HM Swanwhite says:

I reckon he is. So is Amy Adams. Must admit I haven't heard of Mark Wahlberg. Though I know nothing of this movie I imagine it's aimed at adults so we should be Ok.

  3. Narnia-Fan1 says:

Third comment. That's not too good but I think we'll be okay!

  4. Elf Maiden Archer of Rivendell says:

First time to be 2nd comment! 😉 All I can say is too many movies in a row…(Yeah, I know it's the holidays & Christmas, etc.) 🙁 But I don't think The Fighter is family-oriented.(Yeah, I know Christian Bale is big, and Amy Adams is in it too.) I think people would be more interested in Harry Potter (booooooo! Down with HP!) no offense but still; Tron: Legacy, VDT, Gulliver's Travels, etc. This means all Narnia fans MUST watch it in theaters and in 3D if possible!

  5. Elf Maiden Archer of Rivendell says:

Looks like people were commenting while I was, so 4th comment.

  6. Gloria Goodman says:

What planet are you living on that you've not heard of Mark Wahlberg? You obviously don't go to the movies too often. Boogie Nights, Three Kings, I Heart Huckabees, Invincible, etc? Can't wait for The Fighter …

  7. wolfloversk says:

Ugghh. Well, at least I don't think its oriented to the same audience.

  8. skandargirl_95 says:

but it's worse in the Philippines…it's because of the "Metro Manila Film Festival", so the movies comin' out might not be shown for a while…am praying that I'll be one of the firsts to see it here, since I am one good critique to this series

  9. Midshipman Pepper Darcy says:

well, you can be sure I'm going to see VotDT, not Fighter! =D Sail away, sail away, sail away!

  10. Elf Maiden Archer of Rivendell says:

    I live there too. Interesting.

  11. Aravis & Hwin says:

I'm definetly going to see VDT!!!

  12. DragonGirl28 says:

Ugh. Well, 'The Fighter' should hopefully be aimed at adults, so that's good at least.

  13. Bother Eustace says:

Hm, well, hopefully VDT will be good enough to deal with competition. On a side note, the Fighter looks like it could be a good movie… I'll have to wait till it leaves theaters to see it though, just to help VDT do better =D

  14. pselpevensie says:

No! this isn't good!! It's bad enough disney is putting out a movie a few days before it, now a major blockbuster is being released in the same day??!!!!!

  15. Gymfan15 says:

Hmm. Well, I'm cautiously not worried (kind of like cautiously optimistic, but..not. 😉 ). As I recall correctly, didn't GI Joe and Julie and Julia release on the same day? One was a big budget action adventure, the other was a smaller budget, bio pic with really big name actors. As I recall, neither were worse for the wear despite releasing on the same day. I wouldn't be too surprised if VdT and The Fighter have a similar run. But of course, this is Narnia, and we have to obsess and worry over every little thing!

  16. JediTrojan says:

VDT wil com out top thoh

  17. Young playwright from Narnia says:

If any movie is going to be grossing more then VDT, I am going to run and wreck every movie theater in America showing that movie, and while I will be destroying them, I will be yelling" For Narnia and for Aslan!"

  18. pselpevensie says:

    i'll help you!!!!!! 😉

  19. Elf Maiden Archer of Rivendell says:

Hahaha, me too! 😉 Especially against HP; I agree with Bother Eustace, if any of you wants to see the movies being released next to VDT watch it on DVD or rent it. There r some vendors near groceries that have DVDs for rent for $1 per night. No supporting other movies except VDT while in theaters! All NarniaWebbers & fans counting on Y.O.U.!

  20. Young playwright from Narnia says:

Gone with the Bloody Red Harry Potter! Long Live Narna!
(I like the movie Alice in Wonderland )

  21. buzlikab says:

VDT IS GOING TO BE BETTER!

  22. narnian resident says:

man, cant they at least wait 1 or 2 days later? what is wrong with these people? they just have to compete, dont they? well, here's a sold-out narnia fan who will NOT be supporting this other movie. i'll go and see Narnia in theaters 5 times if i have to make a change. ya know i just bet i will end up doing that, even whether there is competition or not, cuz thats what a crazy fan like me would do 😉

  23. narnian resident says:

    im in!!! 😀

  24. Young playwright from Narnia says:

    I saw LWW four times

  25. The fighter is about a boxer. It's not magic, fantasy, or anything like Narnia. Narnia is more a family oriented movie. It's Christmas, a time family likes to be together watching a family movie.

  26. Gandalfs Beard says:

Sorry, no contest. A movie about a boxer, no matter who stars, is no contender against a big budget Fantasy Film with a huge Family Friendly component in the Holiday Season.

  27. WritersDream says:

Wasn't he in Planet of the Apes by Tim Burton?

  28. aravis tarkeena says:

In my opinion, we should be way more worried about HP and Tron than this. Those movies are what's going to be competion.

  29. aravis tarkeena says:

Other than seeing Tron once, I am totally in!

  30. QueenLucy12 says:

UGH NOOOO!!! I Plan to see Vdt in theaters 3times! Once in 3d and 2times in 2d!!!
    BUT, WHY DECEMBER 10TH!?!?!?!?!?!?! WHY?!?!!?!?!?

  31. QueenLucy12 says:

    HAHA! Count me in!!!!!!!!!!

  32. HighQueenofNarnia says:

Well, I don't know that I'll be destroying theaters… except in jest, then I'm all for it!! But I can control which movies I watch.

If you're as much of a Narnia fan as you claim to be, you'll not watch The Fighter or anything else on The Voyage of the Dawn Treader's opening weekend!! On the pain of Aslan's great displeasure!!
December 10th through 12th belongs to NARNIA!!!
I'll not play the turncoat on Narnia on those dates!!! Who's with me?

  33. HighQueenofNarnia says:

Agreed!!! No contest at all. I think that even people who didn't like PC or don't even like Narnia (I know some such people) will watch VotDT. Maybe even more than once. So, not much to worry about. And VotDT is earning more hype than The Fighter- a large part of thanks for this is definitely due to devoted Narnia fans such as those on NW.
I think that the only reason people are freaking out is because The Fighter opens on the same day as VotDT, which is cause for very small concern, but realistically it oughtn't affect VotDT all that much, if at all.
I will go ahead and write this, even though I'm not sure of the actual facts behind The Fighter. So, please correct me if I'm totally off the mark here. But VotDT is the third in a series (hopefully) of seven. A point in its favor, even though PC was not as good as LWW. But it's still "familiar", at least more than The Fighter is, because I *think* that The Fighter is only a stand alone movie. Which brings me to my second point. VotDT, I believe, will be terrific as a stand alone movie- that is, if production does it right!!! And VotDT attracts a different audience, I believe, than The Fighter does. So, don't freak out too much, people!!

If anything, production of The Fighter should be worried about VotDT's competition. What sillies! They actually think that their movie, however good it is, can stand against NARNIA!!!! Its devoted fans, its story, its family-friendliness, its fantasy, and its overall awesomeness!!!

  34. Anna's Sister says:

Hmm, this doesn't sound as bad as it could be.
Sounds like it might be an interesting movie though.

  35. Anna's Sister says:

Sadly, the only movie theater close by to me plays movies about two weeks (or more) after they come out. So our poor little theater will probably air one movie first and then the other. Please let it be VDT!!!

  36. Elf Maiden Archer of Rivendell says:

YES! And I shall watch Narnia in 3D with my whole family (who r also Narnia fans; my mom is teaching Narnia for English Literature temporarily.), and force all my HP cousin fans to watch it in 3D also (so that VDT get more money & audiences); & if any of them say that HP is better than NARNIA…

  37. Elf Maiden Archer of Rivendell says:

You said it! I like Alice too! The new one? I like it even more 'coz Marton Csokas (Celeborn from LotR) played Alice's dad, and Christopher Lee (Saruman & Count Dooku & Dracula) was the Jabberwocky!

  38. Sir Marshall Longsword says:

Hang on while I grab my hatchet!

  39. Young playwright from Narnia says:

    Yes the new one

  40. QueenLucy12 says:

    I AM!!!!!!!!

  41. QueenLucy12 says:

I am making my mom, dad and brother to see it! me and my sister are the only narnia fans in my WHOLE Family! I only know one other person (other than me and my sister) that is a big narnia fan like me.(not in my family)

  42. Eliseo says:

better to compete against this movie than any other. but both movies target different audiences anyway. it would be like opening up against Oceans Eleven or something like that. Sure, that movie has star power, but will attract a different audience

  43. Ranger says:

Seesh, I think that VDT will do alright. I mean look at Toy Story 3.

  44. Waleed Sajjad Khan says:

Damn it. Go Narnia! The armies of the fighter will stand not a chance against our might!

  45. Waleed Sajjad Khan says:

    Sorry I accidentlly cussed there.

  46. Elf Maiden Archer of Rivendell says:

    Good 4 u! 😉

  47. Bethany Weathers says:

Did I hear Christian Bale? Yay! lol. No worries, I'll still see VDT before I see this other movie.

  48. ernesto says:

🙁 no se vale que sea esa fecho, pero dijero ustedes muy pronto que ivan a poner la pelicula de Narnia pero me tengo que acuantar otro dia no manches no asi que jajaajaja y ps nimodo adios.

  49. narnia4ever says:

hang on ill get my battle axe … lets go!!!

  50. Bookwyrm says:

An undoubtedly R-rated guys movie going up against a PG-rated kids movie? Yeah, they're so going to compete. 😛

  51. Bookwyrm says:

You have noticed that movies don't typically release on Saturdays or Sundays, right?

  52. narniaddict ng pilipinas :D says:

haha I live there too!! in nueva ecija! but…i think that the dawn treader will show a week after the release date in the USA so maybe, it'll show after december 25…which is the metro manila film festival….soooo…there will be no cuts in showing time yayy!!

  53. TigerPole says:

My dad is most likely going to take my siblings and me. Most likely some really close friends as well!!!

I want to see VDT in both 3D and 2D, but 3D for sure!!!

  54. Narniapinoy says:

Dawn Treader will be showing December 8, 2010 in the Philippines we're 2 days advance ^^ (Seen it on the list of movies for 2010 in the Philippines)
