The DailyRecord Interviews Will Poulter

The DailyRecord.co.uk interviewed Will Poulter about his participation in the upcoming Fringe festival in Edinburgh. And of course, a mention of his role as Eustace in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader came up.

“It was nerve-wracking taking on a character who is so well-known. Everyone has a picture of Eustace and how he is.
“Trying to encapsulate that was daunting. I’m sure I haven’t been able to do that but I hope I’ve done my best. I know it’s annoying reading book then seeing a film and being disappointed with the character.”
Skandar and Georgie both gave him advice but he claimed it was too early to know how it will feel to be in such a big movie with so many fans around the world.
“Of course it depends on my performance how I’m taken by the fans. It’s a bit of a worry.”

To echo AslansCountry.com, we think you’ll make an excellent Eustace, Will!

    awesome!

  2. eustacegirl says:

    awww hes so humble

  3. I loved his work in Son of Rambow. I can see why he got the role of Eustace. I'm looking forward to seeing him as Eustace.

  4. DragonGirl28 says:

    Go Eustace!

  5. Not Of This World says:

I like him. Does anyone know if he's a Christian?

  6. Starlily says:

Don't worry, Will, from what I've seen you're doing a great job! Looking forward to seeing more of Eustace!

  7. Pattertwig's Pal says:

All of the evidence so far seems to indicate that Will did an excellent job as Eustace. That Eustace is going to be very good is one thing I'm 99% sure of. (And as of now is one of the few positive things I'm sure of). It is really nice that he is thinking about how the readers will respond to his portrayal of Eustace. And it is annoying to have read a book and then be disappointed by the character. Although I tend to blame the higher ups rather than the actor for that.

  8. Bookwyrm says:

He sounds like a pretty nice guy. I doubt his performance as Eustace will be on the list of things we complain about.

  9. QueenLucy12 says:

No But, I HOPE He Is!!!

  10. QueenLucy12 says:

He seems sweet! its good to know that the actor aslo thinks about that!!

  11. Andreya of Narnia says:

Wow, what a great vocabulary. 🙂 I think he'll do a great job! It's nice to hear that he is concerned about what we fans think. Sail on DT! And keep the story of Aslan alive!

  12. elanor says:

Hmmm… I remember Will's stunt double talking about how hardworking and good-natured he was when he was working with him in Australia. It sounds like Will Poulter really wants to be a good, serious actor–to work hard at it like a real job!–so yes, I definately think he will be great as Eustace!

  13. coracle says:

He seems to be all those positives I have seen written by his family members. Good on you, Will, we have every confidence in you. Keep your head and don't change!

  14. Pepper Darcy says:

    I bet he's a perfect Eustace! 😀 Wow, I'm surprised he was worried about it though… that's neat 😉

  15. Lucy says:

He sounds way too nice and good-natured to play pre-dragon Eustace! I guess that's why they call it "acting" in the first place, LOL. Besides, all that means is he'll be even greater in Silver Chair as "nice guy Eustace" if that move actually does get made. Here's hoping!

  16. Ariel_of_Narnia says:

It would be sweet if he was! I pray that cast and crew alike will come to know the Real Person that inspired the fictional Aslan. And, of course, sometimes I do wonder if there /are/ any Christians working on the Narnia films.

  17. Ariel_of_Narnia says:

From what little I could catch of him on those videos of filming on YouTube and the two lines he has in the trailer, I think I can safely say that I think Will Poulter is /the/ Eustace (hopefully the movie will only back me up further on that point). I mean, try to find another kid who can say "What's going on here?" and "This place just gets weirder and /weirder/!" the same way! /So/ Eustace lines!
And I'm glad that he's hoping that the way he performed is going to meet the expectations of the movie-goers. I have high expectations and I'm sure he's going to meet them!
Pattertwig's Pal, I agree with you on the whole have-high-expectations-of-a-character-only-to-have-them-crushed thing (*ahem*, PC) and also on the I-blame-the-higher-ups-for-that. I hope they didn't repeat the PC process in VDT (eg: Peter had his whole "I'm the high king" attitude which ruined PC for me; now in the trailer for VDT Ed says, "Squirt?! I'm a king!" Does that spell trouble or is it only momentary indignation?)….

  18. Ariel_of_Narnia says:

Took the words right out of my mouth (or fingertips), Bookwyrm!

  19. Waleed Sajjad Khan says:

    "What's going on here?!"

  20. Omac the centaur says:

do you know if Skandar or Georgie are?

  21. Omac the centaur says:

well at least we don't have a pre-dragon type of boy trying to be the nice Eustace.. haha maybe they should have gotten twins: one mean and the other nice. O.O it might of worked.. lol

  22. Lucy says:

Yeah twins! that could have worked, LOL. Cuz when they were done with VDT they could have tried out for Shasta and Corin! -just kidding around.

  23. NarniaNerd says:

Skandar is an atheist. 🙁 He actually happens to be directly descended from Charles Darwin.

  24. narnian resident says:

its sweet how he is worried about how well he brought forth the character, knowing it is very important to fans. this gives me big hope that he did a great job playing Eustace, cuz it shows that he must have put great effort into it and he is determined to do a good job.

  25. 220chrisTian says:

Skandar is an atheist. But some NarniaWebbers on the forum are praying that will change! 😀

Georgie is a Christian. Will Poulter? I don't know. Christians or not, they all need prayer! Check out the group 'Narnia cast and crew: pray!' if you're on Facebook.

The point is, the word “Christian” means little, if nothing, in the UK. This is becoming true worldwide. In the UK, true Christians call themselves “Christ-followers” (discipleship) to distinguish themselves from “Christians” by birth, family, or church attendance / membership. In Haiti, “Christian” = living person. True Christians call themselves “believers.” I heard a missionary to Scotland explain all this last night during a world missions class.

  26. Starlily says:

Georgie is a Christian? That's nice. And I hope Skandar becomes one too.

But you're right. Just calling yourself a Christian doesn't mean you're a follower of Christ. And it's true that the UK doesn't have many. We need to keep praying.

  27. Omac the centaur says:

true. well I'll be praying for all of them. 🙂

  28. Omac the centaur says:

    haha 🙂

  29. Narnia Ultimate Fan says:

I think that Will Poulter is great playing Eustace. I pray that someone on the set is a Christian. I am a Christian and I hope to play Shasta when I am older.

  30. HighQueenofNarnia says:

220, I think you'll know what I mean when I say that I got that impression (about Georgie being a Christian) in that dream I told you about earlier.
Actually, when I saw Omac's post, I thought, "You should ask 220! She knows a lot about that sort of thing!" Then I saw 220's post. 🙂
At any rate, I know absolutely nothing about Will, so I'm not the one to say whether or not he'll do well. But if I see an interview in which Skandar calls Will a "little blighter", I'll know Will did a good job! 🙂
I don't believe, though, that production would have chosen him as Eustace if they didn't think that he would be fabulous!

  31. TheScribblingScribe says:

I can't wait to see his performance! He looks just as I imagined Eustace, plus he seems a fine, hard-working chap. Let's just hope they get someone like that to play Jill, for the Silver Chair 🙂

  32. Omac the centaur says:

oh, i was also wondering about Will M. and Anna. haha i 4got about them in my last comment. ill be praying for all of them anyway, just wanted to no what to pray.. 🙂

  33. High Queene ShellyBelly says:

    that's creepy….

  34. High Queene ShellyBelly says:

i thought the BBC eustace was great, this one might be TOO annoying for me- we'll see!
