“There’s a Place for Us” Makes Oscar Semi-Finals
A long list of the 41 songs competing for the Best Original Song Oscar were released today. Among the songs on the list, “There’s a Place for Us.” Voting to narrow down the songs to the five finalists will take place on January 6, 2011. You can view the full list of songs here.

I have little hope to be able to respect the musical choices of the Academy, but I know that they will not earn it if this cheesy little pop song gets nominated.

they should put the videos for all of them together on a youtube channel so we can compare them. i don't thinnk I've heard the competition.
I've been waiting for this news post. Well, this isn't the first time Narnia has gotten an Oscar look, but I don't think we'll win this time either…I hope so, but I don't think it's likely.
Cool! I thought that "There's a Place for Us" was awesome when I went to the theater! I stayed until it was over. Hey Pepper Darcy, did you see that "Sticks and Stones" from How to Train Your Dragon is also in the competition?
Please do explain why you think that "There's a Place for Us" is cheesy. Also, I think that you are being a little harsh. I think it is a wonderful song and will be glad if it wins. 🙂
There is nothing strictly *wrong* with this song. But it is embarrassingly generic. There is nothing new or even interesting lyrically, instrumentally, or melodically about this song.
I thought the song was beautifull and I wouldn't consider "There's A Place For Us" pop. I think it's more country (Oh! and of course Narnian 😉 ).
I haven't heard the compitition either.
I stayed to listen to the whole song too. I had to use the restroom have way through the movie, but I still stayed to listen to the somg and used it after :-).
It would be great publicity for the film if the song gets an Oscar nomination. I really hope it does.
I agree with NOTW. (Nice name, by the way 😀 ) "There's a Palce for Us" never crossed my mind as a pop song; neither did "The Call" in PC.
I AGREE WHOLEHEARTEDLY WITH KATE! alright so the call was an amazing and strange song…i simply adored it! but this song just sounds like another stupid carrie song… it sounds like it could be off her new album not the NARNIA soundtrack! also i dont prefer her singing because at some points it sounds like she's trying to hard and "screaming"

There's A Place For Us is a brilliant song. Fantastic arrangement, fantastic vocals, fantastic music. Carrie is brilliant.
