Comingsoon.net Confirms Dawn Treader Will Be in 3D

As an update to our story earlier today, Comingsoon.net contacted their sources and confirmed that a decision has been made and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader will be released in 3D.

Earlier today, a rumor started circulating the internet that 20th Century Fox will release The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader in 3D this December. ComingSoon.net has confirmed through our source that it is indeed the case.

It will be a 3D-filled holiday season, which kicks-off with DreamWorks Animation’s Megamind on Nov. 5. Disney will then release the Rapunzel film Tangled in 3D on Nov. 12, followed a week later by Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 on Nov. 19. The other 3D release scheduled for December is Disney’s Tron Legacy on the 17th, right in between “Narnia” and “Travels.”

As far as I’m concerned, there’s really no bad news here. 3D movies have been making an immense amount of money compared to what they would have made if they had only been released in 2D, even considering that this particular movie will now cost an approximately $12mil more to make now (assuming the run time is about 2 hours). The Voyage of the Dawn Treader was shot without being planned as a 3D movie, so it’s not going to be all about the special effects. And for those of you out there that really don’t like 3D movies, nobody is forcing you to go see it in 3D; there will still be a 2D version released as well.

3D sounds good and it probably should make more money, but im not sure they didnt cut anything good because it didnt work well or was too hard to do in 3D. Im just a little scared.

I think I will just wait to see it in 2D. that way I avoid the sea-sickness, and not take the chance of missing edited out.
One suggestion to all. Do not buy the first DVD that comes out. It usually does not contain as many special features, like deleted scenes.

If the movie was not planned and shot in 3D, then the 3D version after the fact will not be worth seeing. They added the 3D effects only after the mega-success of Avatar.

Word on the skreet is the 3D version of Clash of the Titans which was not planned or shot in 3D, and had 3D effects put in afterward is god awful. Apparently they did a terrible job added the effects post-production.

Dawn Treader I fear will have a similar outcome.

      • QueenLucy12 says:

jill pole : are you going to go watch it in 3d???

  4. Jeremy says:

I really wish this was an April Fool's joke. Regardless I really hope they will learn from rush job of Clash of The Titans, and realize the potential pitfalls of converting films to 3d.

    • Jill Pole says:

Yeah, my sister saw that movie, I'll have to ask about the grapjhics. That can't happen to our Narnia.

  5. ashleigh Burgess says:

I do not think the film should be in 3D. I will not watch it if it is in 3D nor will my family members.I think it will be a great movie! but I just do not want to see it in 3D.I LOVE the cronicals of narnia!Just not in 3d.But I will probely still love it.

  6. aslandaughter says:

I'll probably see it both ways. I love 3D movies and think Voyage of Dawn Treader would look great as long as the effects aren't cheesy since they were added after the fact. My husband likes 3D too so I'm not disappointed.

  7. MIrha says:

    OOOHHH…………… That is not possible…!!!

PRAY PRAY PRAY THAT THEY GET MORE MONEY THAN THEY DID PRINCE CASPIAN SO WE CAN HAVE MORE NARNIA MOVIES!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Omac the centaur says:

surely they will. as long as they don't go as far away from the book as last time. like extra love scenes between the main characters. >:(

      • QueenLucy12 says:

yeah I hope that they don't do like they did with pc.
vdt is one of the best in the series so I really hope they dont go far from the book! I love narnia, I drvie my sister Crazy talking about it! 🙂

personally i will NOT go see it in 3D i hate 3D i think its tacky and its not worth the extra money,i didnt even like avatar that much…ahhh I really don't think it would be worht the extra money, the film wasn't originally made for 3D its going to be converted afterwards and that never looks good, i saw UP in 3D after they transferred it, there was really no difference and it was pointless to be in 3D and i have heard bad things about all other 3D movies, except avatar of course..Id rather see it 5 times in 2D that once in 3D it can still make money that way !:)

  11. emily says:

With the right effects in this movie it may be good, but I'm just hoping the movie won't be one of those: "Some of the 3D effects were good, but the film didn't need 3D"
    Looking forward to seeing it!

  12. Christopher says:

Thank God. I will have the option the see the movie in good old standard 2D! What a relief, because I would not want to see it in 3D. The Narnia format HAS to be the same to me. No exceptions. I admit that I am EXACTLY like my all-time favorite TV hero, Adrian Monk. All seven Narnia movies HAVE TO MATCH. (So much so, I even made my OWN insert for Prince Caspian to match the 10-page companion book for The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I literally duplicated the artistic style of the Scene Selections, even including the 1-800 contact number for WDCR both U.S. AND Canada. I chose purple to be the color for the film. I also edged the paper to make it EXACTLY THE SAME SIZE. PERFECT MATCH!)

  13. Danny says:

I love 3D…..when it's done well!!! I have seen 4 films in 3D, A Christmas Carol, Avatar, Alice in Wonderland and Clash of the Titans. The first three were fantastic in 3D, particularly Avatar, but Clash of the Titans 3D was dreadfull. It wasn't the fact that the 3D effects looked cheap/tacky, it was because they were almost non-existent!!! It looked the same as 2D and was not worth the extra money! I hope they do VDT well and use 3D to create great depth like in Avatar so you actually feel in the film!! I will probably watch it in 3D first, and if its really bad, will watch it in 2D after. Fingers crossed they do a good job of the 3D!!! 🙂

  14. Casue till the end says:

I haven't seen any 3D movies this year or last year. Yes I am one of the .000000000000001% of people who have not seen Avatar. Anyways i will see it in both 2D and 3D and i will love them both for i am an obsessive narnia fan. I am so obsessed my friends think i need to see a doctor about it 😛

  15. FrecklefaceJill says:

    NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

    This CANNOT BE HAPPENING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. No 1 narnia fan eva says:

    yesssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i am so glad that it might or will be in 3d it would make the flim soooooooooooooooooooo much better

  17. Paurian says:

Unless they film it in 3D it won't be that great. Critics are really cracking down on this as well as moviegoers. 3D extrapolation (as they did in Alice) doesn't equate to the realism you get from authentic 3D camera (as in Avatar).

  18. Clara says:

Give it a rest everyone!!! I hate it when people critisize things before they see what they're really like. "don't judge a book by its cover", you know. I plan to see the Dawn Treader in both 2D and 3D…then make my decision! But being the huge Narnia fan that I am,(I annoy my friends to death talking about it)I hope its good both ways and I hope its better than Prince Caspian because I couldn't bear to see Narnia so ruined again–with all that romance!=P
I'm no expert on 3D (I think I've seen one 3D movie in my entire life–and I am in that almost-non-existent-percent that hasn't seen Avatar), but I think it will be good as long as they don't add scenes for the 3D version for FX sake. I can't wait no matter what!!!!
