Three Brand New Video Clips From The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Aslan’s Country has posted the three clips from the Fun-for-the-Whole-Family Hour package. The first clip shows Eustace being very obnoxious with the Pevensies in Lucy’s bedroom. The second clip shows Eustace discovering the dragon cave and gives some hints about story change. The third clip shows Edmund, Lucy, Caspian, Eustace, and Reepicheep rowing across the Sea of Lillies. Eustace is talking about his undragonning.

There’s a lot of dialogue with Eustace in all three clips. This is by far the best footage we’ve seen from the film.

UPDATE: Fox has removed these videos from YouTube and Vimeo. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.

What do you think of the new videos?

    yay!!!!!

  2. fantasia_kitty says:

    SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
    Sorry. I couldn't help it.

  3. Caspian XI says:

Wow that was awesome!! Though they might not seem as much, I enjoyed them and I CAN'T wait for the movie to come out in theaters! =D Time has to go by faster..

  4. Tirian says:

Wow, this is really exciting. All the footage we've seen before has been so edited (for trailers) that it's been tough to really get a feel for what the pacing and acting will be like. I've got to say that I like the feel of the videos. Plus, it's great to get to actually hear Eustace. I'm also really interested in the changes they've made to Dragon Island with Edmund and Caspian finding Eustace' shoe.

    • GlimGlum says:

Agreed. Looking good. Sail on VDT! 🙂

    • Aslan's Meadow says:

I'm not sure I quite lke Eustace's voice, It sounded fine, but once in a while it sounded just weird.
LOVED seeing Caspian and Edmund (finally)

  5. Claire-ayes says:

Ohhhhh. Eustace!! Fantastic. It's so weird seeing actual footage. It all looks pretty promising to me. 😀

  6. narnia365 says:

Oh my gosh… they're so amazing!!! I'm totally pumped about this movie now…

  7. Lillyput90 says:

Actually starting to like the look of this movie now!!!!

  8. PrinceCor says:

Looks good! Interesting changes in the second and third clip…. Still, it's obviously early renderings of the scenes (editing is rather awkward and the music sounds like stock Danny Elfman). Looking good, though! Can't wait for December and seeing what the finished product looks like. 🙂

  9. Is it just me, or did Eustace call Edmund and Lucy "orphans"?

    • Lillyput90 says:

He did, I believe. That's a very interesting developement. They changed his rhyme, it was originally: Some kids who played games about Narnia, gradually got balmier and balmier. Now it is: There once were two orphans who wasted their time, believing in Narnian nursery rhymes.

I wonder what happened to Mr. and Mrs. Pevensie?

      • Melody says:

Maybe they're just 'war orphans' – both parents are busy with the war so they don't have anyplace to live? (they still are just 'guests' at the Scrubbs')

      • Lucy says:

I hope they didn't actually kill off Mr. and Mrs. Pevensie! I liked them!

      • Perhaps Mr. Pevensie is missing in action?
That doesn't explain why Mrs. Pevensie would be gone, though.
I don't like how the war has been ongoing throughout the movies. Because I think Peter would be the type to enlist, instead of going off to study with Professor Kirke. Edmund would be the same, and in that first trailer he's trying to enlist… ugh.

      • icarus says:

I'm pretty sure Eustace was just mocking Edmund and Lucy and their love of Fairy Tales by using the popular convention of such stories to have young orphans as the heroes.

Although i wouldn't rule anything out considering all the twists and turns we've had on this movie so far, but i can't believe they would have Eustace mock two recently bereaved relatives like that. He is supposed to be annoying, not utterly despicable.

You would pretty much expect Lucy to burst into tears if her cousin made fun of them losing her Parents so recently, and you would expect Edmund to respond in a slightly more brutal manner than just returning a comical limerick.

      • Melody says:

I'm thinking that the genre convention is not something that one of Eustace's character would understand (he doesn't seem to know much about fairy tales!). But I can't offer another option because I agree that he wouldn't dare mock them like that if they'd recently been orphaned.

I like having the war continue. In the book, it just ignored the war after the first book – something I never quite understood. (besides, in the film, has it ever said that Peter did not enlist? It's very possible that he did enlist and that's why Edmund wants to go) It adds realism. While the Blitz did mostly stop by this point, the war still dragged on for another couple of years after VDT.

      • narnian resident says:

i think he was just teasing them by using that word. im pretty sure they would not kill off their parents. i dont think we have to get worried about this because something tells me its just a tease and nothing more. after all, he says their "guests" afterwards. im trusting with all my heart that nothing drastic like this has been changed.

      • SparkyTheHappyGiraffe says:

Did any of you guys notice haw Lucy says "We're home!" at the the beginning of the first clip? Does that mean they live there because they're orphans?

      • Aslan's Meadow says:

Very weird. Lucy saying "We're Home" and Eustace calling them "Orphans". I would love for them to stick to the book. But I really wouldn't mind them being orphans, adds a differnt twist, and maybe for the kids to overcome.

      • Reepicheep, Knight of Narnia says:

Just to point something out, moviewise, Peter was 15 in LWW. That makes him 16 in PC and 17 in VDT, so he couldn't enlist yet even if he wanted to.

      • Melody says:

But they aren't putting the films at exactly 1 year apart, so I would say that it's perfectly possible that Peter has just turned 18.

    • fantasia_kitty says:

I do not believe they are actually going to be orphans. Eustace immediately follows up his rhyme with "You're just guests."

      • Yes, why would Lucy say "we're home" and why would Eustace say "you're just guests"?

If the Pevensies suddenly are orphans, and I don't think that's the case (though it is a possibility), that'd give the director an incentive to bring the four kids together again in this movie.

This would drastically change that scene in "The Last Battle" where Lucy waves to her parents in Aslan's Country.

Idk what to think. Let's hope they're sticking to the book. It was fine as is.

      • narnian resident says:

maybe it isnt Lucy who says "we're home". it could be his mother. but it does sound an awful lot like her. that confused me a bit.

hey, that just got me thinking. on the cast list in movie information, there is no listing for Eustace's parents. does that mean his parents wont appear? i mean, we'll probably infer he has parents, and they're at the house because he's only suppose to be a boy, but why wouldnt they have a shot of them? maybe a small scene? i was actually hoping to see Aunt Alberta and Uncle Harold. well, it could just be one of those times they forget to put a casting up…maybe? *sigh* i guess i'll just have to see in the movie

      • Maybe they think having Aunt Alberta and Uncle Harold in there would be too reminiscent of Harry Potter. 😛

    • fionne says:

I heard it too. What's up with that?

  10. DragonGirl28 says:

WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! This is SO awesome! Great to see Eustace!

  11. Jill Pole says:

YAY we've all waited so long for these…. so happy!!!!

  12. icarus says:

At first glance there is lots of familiarity with the book, more so than we've seen in any of the trailers – and that is immensely pleasing. However, once you think about the quote for a few minutes you notice some big changes, not least that it shows further evidence that Eustace only gets undragoned right before the end, and that he will spend the majority of the final third of the film as a Dragon.

    • Ali says:

That's not necessarily the case. Eustace could simply not have told the others any details about his undragoning until now.

      • icarus says:

The way the dialogue is written does not make it sound like he was talking about events from way earlier in the movie, but rather that it is a heartfelt apology from someone who has just been brought back from the edge. It was also be a pretty odd example of screenwriting to leave any sort of massive big gap between his undragoning and this moment, so its looking that Eustace will be a dragon for quite a while. Worth noting this is not the first piece of evidence to suggest that either.

    • NarniaLuver4Ever says:

I thought the same thing as well. I can't tell exactly how I feel about it just yet. Although Eustace's largest part in the book IS being a dragon, I just don't know if I want him like that for the whole movie…

  13. Ali says:

    WOW.

Okay, so the music is clearly a temp track which is kind of distracting, but the footage itself is lovely! I'm already sold on Will as Eustace. And Caspian and Edmund cavorting about brings me great joy. And Drinian! LOVE.

    • narnian resident says:

yes! i absolutely loved Drinian, even in that small part he has in the clip. my favorite thing? his accent! o my goodness it sounded so awesome 😀

  14. Cynthia says:

Just about passed out when I saw this post!! This is sooo exciting! The 3 clips are so much like the book and that's really exciting to me and probably everyone else. I love that in the 3rd clip, Eustace says that line about he couldn't do it himself, that he needed Aslan's help. They really stuck to the Christian salvation theme that C.S. Lewis tried to convey with the character Eustace. LOVE the 1st clip too. Just like I pictured it. And the 2nd one is great too! Really excited by these clips. They are killer

  15. Kotarki says:

Do you remember the old videos from way back during LWW? Some of them were basically several blips of footage from a scene to condense it. I remember it from the hide and seek scene specifically. Nothing to worry about I hope, editing will be much cleaner in the actual film.

    • Tirian says:

I agree. In looking at these closely I can see that the voices don't always match up. When Eustace first walks in it doesn't look like he's talking. On the dragon clip, they skip out when it's time to see the old, dying dragon (since the CG wasn't done yet). I'm sure these were thrown together some time ago and are more akin to a first cut of the film. I'm not concerned at all with the continuity, but I like hearing the voices and seeing the camera movement, props, etc.

      • icarus says:

I very much doubt that the old dying dragon will be in the movie – even taking into account how edited the clips are, Eustace seems to fall upon the treasure imediately after finding the treasure – and not to mention the fact that Lord Octesian is now present as a Skeleton, rather than it hinting that he was the old dying dragon himself.

      • icarus says:

correction – *"immediately after falling down the slope"

  16. Griffle says:

WOW! I'm crying! It's THAT good.

    • Skandar4Lyfe says:

omg im crying to! this has to be one of the best days of my life! its so beautiful

  17. Aslanisthebest says:

    THE LAST ONE! SO PRETTY!!!
The last was definitely my favourite, soundtrack and scenery and all.
The other two were pretty exciting, now I simply can't wait.

  18. Melody says:

Definitely not final cut. Editing is, as someone else here noted, awkward and sped-up, the CGI doesn't look quite finished, and the music is just what was in the trailer. (which was Two Steps from Hell's music, in case anyone's curious)

Yikes, what a lot of shaky handheld work. I hope it's spread out in the final cut with firm steadicam and jib footage. Though that's my personal cinematographical opinion… I hear shaky handheld is 'in' right now.

Love the limericks… and orphans? Wonder what's going on with that.

Anyone notice that Gael says "Is it the volcano?" in the dragon island clip? That makes me wonder who she is, what she's doing, and what volcano are they talking about? 😀

I hope that Eustace isn't going to spend the entire film as a dragon. That won't be much fun. (after all, how are they going to bring him along as a dragon? Lewis discussed that problem in the bk. :D)

    • icarus says:

The real world island they used was White Island – a volcanic island in NZ. It would seem they are keeping in the fact about it being a volcanic island in the movie, as you can see the real steam rising from the middle of it, far away from where the dragon fire eminates. Quite though how Gael would know so much about the island – unless she got a suitable briefing from Coriakin and his big maps… or one of the characters worked it out and told here… or perhaps these islands aren't as uncharted as they are in the book.

      • Melody says:

Maybe they were exploring and discovered that it was a volcano. They had been on the island already, I would guess. It's cut so rapidly, it could have been any amount of time between the Eustace section and that last section.

Very cool about the real location – I hadn't heard about that.

  19. Melody says:

Random: is that – the first shot in the first clip – is that Eustace's journal?!?!?

    • fantasia_kitty says:

I do believe it is. 😉

    • narnian resident says:

o my goodness you must be right! because if he sticks it in his sock, that means it gets taken to Narnia with him. it has to be his diary!

      • Omac the centaur says:

oh sweet! That completely slipped my mind! and that means it'll be in there… 🙂 🙂

  20. Smooshy says:

Surprised they released footage of Aslan's Country already but everything looks gorgeous. I just hope the flow of the final film works well. I thought Prince Caspian had great elements but came together a bit poorly and LWW had good elements but was only worth the sum of it's parts (not bad but now what it could have been). So the jury's still out on Voyage but these clips sure add to the anticipation!

  21. Reepicheep775 says:

    AAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!

    Will Poulter is freaking AWESOME!!!!

  22. Lylanarniafan says:

    OMG!!!!!!!
    COMPLEATLY AWESOME !!!!!!!!

  23. em says:

He is as annoying on screen, as on the book. Good casting 🙂
    Thanks for sharing! CAN'T WAIT.

  24. aslan1980 says:

Why does Edmund ask Lucy if she has seen the ship in the painting before. Its not hard to miss when the only other things in it are the sea and the sky. What is the point of a painting made up of only sea and sky if the Dawn Treader was not there? Also why is Eustace calling them orphans? Dont remember them being orphans in the book.

    • narnian resident says:

i was wondering that too, why he called him that. but he was probably just teasing them, cuz be sure they are NOT orphans. but i love his new phrase in the movie. the one in the book was "those who play games about narnia, gradually get balmier and balmier." and Lucy comments on how it didnt rhyme. but now it does 🙂 i love it

  25. Lucy says:

    What I do I think?

I think: OMG! It's Narnia….Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! (Yeah, I know, not a very orignal comment. And you know what? I'm okay with that!)

I love the line, "There was a boy called Eustace, who read books of facts that were useless"; You tell him, Ed!

And, um, don't get me wrong, I think Skandar's a fantastic actor, but is it just me or does that boy seriously need to learn out to enunciate when he speaks? He has something of a mumbling voice and twice, though of course he didn't since this is bound to be a PG flim, it sounded almost like he was cursing because he wasn't speaking clearly.

    • NarniaNerd says:

It's his accent. It's hard to understand sometimes. But it's better than a Telmarine accent! 😀

  26. Alambil says:

Is it sad that I'm crying? =D with excitement and joy, of course…

  27. NarniaNerd says:

WOW! It's not finished, so quite choppy, but I like it. They used the trailer music.
    WILL COMPLETELY ROCKS!
I like the way the script (dialogue) was written SO MUCH better than the previously films. At least, so far.
I like it. I can't wait to see the movie.

  28. decarus says:

So is there a copy of the third one? I see they are getting swept away, but i didn't get the third one before it was taken.

  29. Northernranger says:

I am so happy! I didn't like some of the acting but it is always better in the movie then in the clips. What I really don't like is how small the ship is in the painting. It should be mostly ship and only a little water, not mostly water and only a small ship. Can't wait to see the whole thing!!!!! Keep the story of Aslan alive.

  30. Bother Eustace says:

Ug, I'm on vacation and my connection here is so slow! can't get the videos to load! This is like a bad nightmare. Such terrific Narnia spoilers so close, yet so far… ug! guess I'll keep trying.

    • Starlily says:

      Poor you! 🙁

Well, the clips don't show anything earth-shattering, but they are pretty cool. And rather interesting as regards to the movie's plot. Just read the comments and keep trying to load the videos!

      • Bother Eustace says:

I finally got to see the first two videos. I'm really pleased with Will as Eustace, I think he's great! unfortunately the third video is unavailable, it says it has content being blocked by Fox. But what I was able to see was cool. Oh, and Georgie has grown so much! I've seen pictures and of course the two trailers, but I'm still amazed whenever I see her.

      • Bother Eustace says:

Scratch that about the third video – I finally got it loading now. Should be able to see it in a bit. =P

  31. Pattertwig's Pal says:

I'd totally forgot about those clips coming out. They are much more encouraging than the trailers. The skeleton with the bracelet was a bit of a shock. The clips answer some questions and bring up more.

    • Starlily says:

I was surprised (and wildly excited 😉 ) to see these clips too, and the skeleton was a bit of a shock as well! (Even though skeletons and treasure seem to go together like green eggs and ham) And yeah, the clips definitely create as many questions as they answer. But that's the way of it until the movie comes out. Can't wait to see more!

  32. icarus says:

A couple of further interesting observations –

    1. Lucy is looking in a mirror when she first appears – yet more foreshadowing of her "i want to be beautiful like Susan" subplot.

    2. There is a river very clearly running through the Dragons Treasure. It looks to be that when Caspian and Edmund stumble upon it they are working out about how the "Deathwater" works by dipping Eustace's shoe in it. Further confirmation, if it was needed, that Dragon Island and Deathwater have been merged together.

  33. Taigan says:

Wow, the clips were fantastic! Eustace really irritated me in these videos, then I realized that's how his character was written! The acting is better than in PC and LWW, at least from what we've seen so far 🙂 I'm looking forward to the final cut! Now all we need is a GOOD TRAILER to get the hype up!!!

  34. narnian1 says:

clip one was great. clip two was good, but clip three was beyond amazing easily the best of the 3. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE ASLAN'S COUNTRY IN THIS MOVIE- or in TLB for that matter!!!!

  35. Narnia Ultimate Fan says:

    this is the BEST!!!!!!!

  36. narnian resident says:

wow! so this is our first sight of Will Poulter acting. he's amazing! oh my goodness i cannot wait to see Eustace in action! these were incredible! i am shaking all over from utter delight and excitement! Eeeeeeee! oh im loving Eustace already! i can see he's going to be an incredible character! well done, well done! 😀

  37. Son of Rillian says:

AWSOME,i love them, but there more like scenes of eustace.

  38. starkat says:

All I have to say is…

    Is it December yet???!

  39. Eustace+Jill says:

I'm so glad to finally see real footage!
But I hope the scenes don't actually look like that in the movie. It went by way too fast — especially the part with Eustace and the treasure. Hopefully it's just a condensed version…

    • FriendOfNarnia2 says:

I'm sure it is. They did the same thing to the LWW clips that were released before the movie.

  40. LadyCourage says:

What do I think? *SCREEEEAAAAM* Awesome! It looks great!

  41. LoyalNarnian says:

Happy to see footage, but the clips look kinda rough and I'm not too sure about the acting??? And why is the old lord a skeleton and not a dragon? Wish they would have left that in…

  42. going crazy with excitement; can't WAAAAAIT for Dragon Island!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  43. always narnian says:

O wow! Neat. 🙂 I really liked the one when he talked about his undragoning 🙂

  44. Music From The Heart says:

BAAAAAAH! So excited! These trailers were inrcredible. I am very pupmed for the film. Did anyone else think it was interesting how large the Dragon's Lair was? I liked it. I was always picturing a cave. This was more of a chasm.
I think Skander has improved as an actor since the first two films. It comes across very natural. Thank you Aslan's Country! 😀

  45. for narnia! says:

I think the dying dragon is going to be in the movie! Did you see how Eustace looked behind his shoulder and there was smoke around him?

  46. rutger says:

who´s saying that the skeleton is the lost lord? it can be someone else

    • icarus says:

Because of the arm ring. The fact that its instantly recognisable as Lord Octesian's arm ring is a pretty important fact. Though i guess now that the Dragon Lair is seemingly doubling up as Deathwater River, and Caspian and Edmund are there anyway, they would have seen the Lord Octesian's body themselves, so i guess that does make things a little problematic for the whole part where they work out the dragon is Eustace.

  47. daughter of the King says:

Intriguing. The second one left me with more questions than answers but the first two confirmed a few things we already knew.

  48. HighQueen_Of_LanternWaste says:

Wow! These were fantastic! You can eally tell the style in the movies have changed, but it's different I like it. I absolutely love Eustace.

  49. Starlily says:

So it IS a river that turns to gold! And we thought the synopsis writers just had grammar issues! (Sorry synopsis writers!) On the whole I like the clips, but I don't like how they're edited and paired with the trailer music. And it'll take a little time to get used to the plot changes.

Can anyone tell me what Eustace says in the first clip about "hideous (mumble-mumble) to people like me"? Is it "aversion"?

    • Aslan's Meadow says:

I thought Eustace said "Hideous Burden", then Edmund said "Hideous Burden? You haven't lifted a finger since we've been here." That's what I got from it. I'm not sure about the "to people like me" part.

    • decarus says:

Skander always mumbles. At least Georgie seems to have gotten over that.

      • icarus says:

Georgie seems to be over-compensating in that regard though – delivering every line like she is reading perfectly from an autocue. It just sounds too unnatural and forced in my opinion.

      • JillPoleWannaBe says:

I also thought it wasn't natural, to perfect.

      • LL says:

Skandar was great. Georgie's lost it.

  50. Benjamin says:

    I love it!

My Mom says: Can't wait can't wait! Have to wait have to wait. lol!

    • Northernranger says:

You are so lucky to have a mom that likes Narnia. Both of my parents can't understand why I always check to see if there is anything new. But I totally agree with what she said!!!

  51. Anna says:

Is it just me, or has the acting become a little worse since the first two?

    • Aslan's Meadow says:

Sadly, I have to agree. But hopefully they only snatched the bad acting parts lol

      • FriendOfNarnia2 says:

I honestly think it's better than it was in Prince Caspian. And Eustace is awesome…of course he wasn't in the first two films.

    • decarus says:

I agree. They have only gotten worse since LWW. I do think that Georgie did a great job in these clips.

    • Melody says:

Meh, I'm so-so on the acting. Some of it seems 'bad' but I'm thinking it's just because it's out of place. It really messes with your mind when you hear Eustace's voice but his lips aren't moving. 😉 Plus, a couple of the lines (where you really can't tell because someone's head is turned) don't look like they belong with the shot at all, so the vocal tone in the final cut will probably make more sense.

      It's really a wait & see deal. 😀

    • Starlily says:

I don't know, I think the acting is fairly good for strangely edited clips. I really like the last clip. And even though Gael and Drinian only say one line each in the second clip, I still like their acting! But we'll have to wait for the movie to decide for sure.

  52. SparkyTheHappyGiraffe says:

    How awesome….

    • Melody says:

Sparky, your username reminds me of a scene from an AIO episode… your name isn't Robert Mitchell, is it? ;D j/k! glad to see another AIO fan. 😀

  53. Tumnus the faun says:

Will someone please screencap these new clips!

  54. adamie says:

extremely choppy edited with music that was in the trailer (stardust opening music by the way) and bad lips synchronization. It really bugged me in the third clip, when Eustace is talking for like 15 seconds without ever seeing him actually talking. But that will be edited differently in the final film. I must say that if I look at shot by shot it looks encouraging, so if the montage is good, I'll be happy.

I also believe that the color correction isn't finished in the final two clips, it's not that good. And I can't help that Georgie's performance seems sort of, well, worse than before. but that might be the editing too. Perhaps they chose some bad takes.

  55. LL says:

    Edmund <3

  56. Reep14 says:

    Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  57. *SCREEAAM!!!!!!* SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! Those are awesome!! Beyond awesome!! I am SO excited for the Dawn Treader movie! I could barely breathe! 😀 OH! I LOVE them!!

  58. December is so far away. The clip where Eustace was on the island was so exciting. I am so ready for this Voyage!
