Three Brand New Video Clips From The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Aslan’s Country has posted the three clips from the Fun-for-the-Whole-Family Hour package. The first clip shows Eustace being very obnoxious with the Pevensies in Lucy’s bedroom. The second clip shows Eustace discovering the dragon cave and gives some hints about story change. The third clip shows Edmund, Lucy, Caspian, Eustace, and Reepicheep rowing across the Sea of Lillies. Eustace is talking about his undragonning.

There’s a lot of dialogue with Eustace in all three clips. This is by far the best footage we’ve seen from the film.

Click here to watch the videos at Aslan’s Country.

UPDATE: Fox has removed these videos from YouTube and Vimeo. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.

What do you think of the new videos?

ORPHANS! OH NO. WATCH it again and see for your self if you do not BELIEVE ME

    • Twinimage says:

I just rewatched the videos, noticed the part where Eustace calls the two Pevensies "orphans"!
Yikes! Though, does Eustace really mean "orphans"? Or is he just teasing them because they've been "abandoned" by their parents to go to America. We'll see. That may explain Peter and Susan's appearance in the teaser trailer. Maybe something to do with Aslan's Country. You never know, it may actually go with the theme of the book. Giving more characters more reasons to go to Aslan's Country. It may also have to do with the "lost souls" part of the story.

  2. Reepicheep, Knight of Narnia says:

These aren't the final cuts, I'm sure. Being "created especially for Fun-For-The-Whole-Family Hour", they want to instill a moral into about one minute of the movie. A good way to do that is a voice-over. In the last clip, they don't actually show Eustace's face until he comes to the "Being a dragon wasn't all bad" bit. They also don't show Edmund's face for his line before that. Very seldom does that actually happen in a movie, so, based off of that, and off of the fact that it is Edmund who poses the question, I think we can be hopeful that the undragonning scene may be very like the book. I really hope so, because Eustace talking to Edmund is one of my favorite parts of the entire series!

    • Reepicheep, Knight of Narnia says:

"Why bless me, if I haven't left out the whole point!"
"That you did, Chief, that you did. Nobody could have left it out cleaner and better. Keep it up, Chief, keep it up!"
What I meant to say is that I think Eustace's talking about being undragonned is a voiceover and will actually appear in a different scene than the Silver Sea. Sorry about that, I always get so wrapped in what I'm writing that I say everything except the most important thing!

    • Meggie1996 says:

I agree with you! And I like the fact that Edmund finds Eustace and Eustace is comfortable enough to talk to Ed before anyone else. That's nice. Poor Ed. He looks so helpless in the second clip. I just want to hug him and make him feel beter.

  3. Pogginfan says:

Whoa, three clips! Three clips! This will satisfy me for a whole week!
Really love the sets and Eustace, but slightly worried about Gael and the obvious reconstruction of the story. The colors are so pretty. 😀

    • Ariel_of_Narnia says:

The only "reconstruction of story" I'm seeing is the possibility that maybe Eustace's "un-dragoning" happens way later? And, of course, the whole Gael thing.
But I agree about the clips and colours.

      • Lucy says:

Or, maybe, though I can't believe everyone's whining about this and no one's thought of it besides me yet, Eustace doesn't TURN into a dragon until later in the film's plot than in the books, maybe he's nasty for longer and that's why the dilogues like that at the last clip there.

      • samuel says:

I wouldn't be too surprised if they reordered the events, the are a lot of stuff in the book that won't even make it into the movie, just because of time, and Dragon Island is a big important part… The stuff I'm more worried about is eustace and edmund almost fighting, In the book edmund is the one just trying to ignore, and eustace enjoyed being annoying and never really got angry… maybe I'm reading too much into that clip

      • Pogginfan says:

Yes, Ariel of Narnia, the pretty high possibility of Eustace's 'un-dragoning' coming later in the story is the reconstruction of the story I'm referring to. 🙂 For one, it could mean the islands are rearranged in a way that affects the story. For another, it could mess up Eustace's character development by taking place later in the movie. I consider both of those things to worry about. :S

      • Samuel says:

just thought of something related to my reply, they might have changed the attitudes of the characters (and the rhyme) because of the change in ages of the characters, in the movies they are much older than in the books, making both edmund and eustace much more aggressive

  4. NarniaWarrior says:

    outstanding !!! 111 days

  5. Liberty Hoffman says:

    YAY!

  6. Marjorie says:

The picture of Susan and Peter in the framework set by the bedside, could be this:

    http://www.williamgallery.org/displayimage.php?album=86&pos=4 ?

From a distance it looks like i strongly! No?
But when I saw the frame, it made me think of this photo.
I was searched and found. So you see, o

  7. Kirstine says:

Lovely! It's so tantalizing to see actual clips from the movie! 🙂

  8. Lady Polly says:

    THAT WAS AWESOME!!!
WILL POULTER DID SUCH A GOOD JOB PLAYING EUSTACE!!!

  9. Not Of This World says:

    Nice footage!

  10. evenstar101 says:

OMG this is AMAZING!!!! :)))) This may satisfy me for a little while longer….

  11. youthere! says:

Eustace begins his rhyme by saying "There once were two orphans…" Am I missing something? Are Lucy and Edmund orphans?

    • Manticore says:

0.o I noticed that too!!!! perhaps this explains why Edmund was trying to join the army, because he feels like he should be doing something to help protect his sister, as long as she's safe with Cousin Eustace & Co.

      • Ariel_of_Narnia says:

That might explain it. However, I'm not entirely sure if Ed can protect Lu any better by leaving her with Eu (at least at this point in the story). ;D

      • allalea says:

The Pevensies do become "orhans", eventually in the Last Battle. They're parents die on the same train they die on. That might explain it even though Michael Apted brought it out a little early.

      • Manticore says:

Interesting thought, allalea…also a possibility. Ariel, lol. 🙂

    • Ariel_of_Narnia says:

I'm rather wondering about that "orphan" thing too… kind of worrying me a little: Mr. and Mrs. Pevensie aren't supposed to die until LB! And where would Peter and Susan be?

      • Narnian Geek says:

Peter and Susan would be old enough to find work somewhere as servants, and they sent the two younger ones to the Scrubb's house. I am earnestly praying that Eustace is making fun of the Pevensies. (Ha ha, your parents are in America. You're orphaned for the summer!) And actually, youthere, Eustace says "three orphans". I would guess that Susan has already stopped believing in Narnia. My movie expectations have gone down to 7 out of 10

      • Lucy says:

No, Narnian Geek, he says "TWO orphans", not THREE. I replayed it twice to be sure!

      • Narnian Geek says:

        Whoops! Sorry everybody!

      • Narnian Geek says:

Yay! Someone has responded to me! I feel accepted into the Narniaweb community. Thank you Lucy, for making my day!

      • Starlily says:

Lol, Narnian Geek, that's how I felt the first time I got responded to! I was so thrilled!! 😛

      • Omac the centaur says:

haha i no the feeling. 🙂

    • NarnianRebel says:

It would be sad If Ed and Lu's parents died, but, (I hope i don't get a thumbs down for this!) I think it would make a very interesting storyline. I agree with Manticor about Ed's inlistment deal. I also think it is very brave of him to do so.

    • Beginte says:

It is possible a part of LB was brought here by making the Pevensies' parents dead earlier… is it then possible Peter and Susan died along with them and thus appear in Aslan's Countruy – hence the mysterious footage? Whatever it is, by the way, I'm sure Peter and Susan's appearance will be great. I always missed them terribly while reading VoDT as a kid! 🙂

      • samuel says:

That would be weird, though plausible, if this explanation is the case it could mean that they are trying to connect all seven stories more closely together, which actually could be a good thing seeing as how changes from the books into individual movies would be less likely to produce continuity errors, but it ruins some of the best scenes from LB

      • DOECOG says:

It wouldn’t be that big of change for Peter. He would just be dying sooner. But it would be a HUGE change for Susan. She is the only Pevensie who doesn’t die in the books. Also assuming she’s in Aslan’s Country that means she hasn’t fallen away yet and never will since she died first. Both of these are a major change for the character.

      • Beginte says:

I know that. Yet, I must say I'd be glad to see this change for Susan, because I always, ever since I was a kid, wanted her to join her family in Narnia 🙂 After all, Lewis himself said she'd find her way and that her story was unfinished yet, but he died before he managed to tell us the end. I know that her denial of Narnia is important, but if she and Peter indeed die in this film, maybe it will be somehow worked out. I personally have an idea how it all could be combined.

    • Beginte says:

Or, it's simply possible he's mocking them. Using the term 'orphan' as an insult, as vicious kids sometimes do, I remember some incidents like this from my elementary school.

  12. Adis says:

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWW!!!! I´m out of words!!!! Can´t wait to enjoy the whole movie!!!!

  13. musketeer39 says:

    Yay!

  14. the other Pevensie girl says:

AMAZING!! 😀 I can't wait for the rest of the film! Eustace is exactly how I always imagined him to be.. and I LOVE the look on Edmund's face while he's saying his poem in the first clip. hahaha!

Only one thing I'm curious about though.. Eustace calls Edmund and Lucy "orphans".. why is that? /:

    • Alambil says:

I hope the director or producer or someone comes out and explains that… or at least says whether Eustace is right in calling the Pevensies orphans.

    • Tauriel says:

He's just trying to annoy them, because their parents left them for the summer. I think some of you guys are reading way too much into this… 😀

      • WillowofNarnia says:

        I absolutely agree! 🙂

      • Alambil and Tarvis says:

I agree with that too. All I got from it was him just making up a stupid rhyme to tease them.

      • DOECOG says:

Agreed. I’ll try not to worry unless I see other information that gives me a reason to. Remember these clips are taken out of context. For all we know they might have already said earlier in the movie that the parents are in America.

    • skandar fan says:

      Edmund really looks soooo cute!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Ed#1 says:

Awesome! Can't wait to see it all put together!

  16. Barbara says:

Oh my word, watching these clips only makes it harder to wait but I just can't resist! In the first clip I just want to knock the wind out of Eustace, but in the 3rd one I totally see him in a different light. I guess it's a good reminder to remember to see people through God's eyes: what they WILL be, and not what they are when we want to ring their necks!

    • Ariel_of_Narnia says:

But not only does it show us to see people the way God does (in the context of "how they WILL be"), but it does also show what a /transformation/ can be brought to a person's life through the grace and mercy of Christ.

  17. Ariel_of_Narnia says:

SQUEEEEE!!! I'm choking on my own excitement!! I don't think Will has to worry about "meeting people's standards for Eustace".
They might not have kept the "Narnia-balmier" limerick, but the one he says is just as… well, not "good", but "good".
I don't like the appearance of Gael. I don't like it at all. However, I DO like the way they portrayed Eustace's greed. "You won't be needing that, will you?"
I also like his "I think I was a better dragon than a boy" and in response to Lu's "Aslan's country: I wonder what it will be like": "I can't even imagine it". EEEP! It's JUST LIKE HEAVEN. No one knows till they get there. Just for that line, I have to say that THAT CLIP is my favourite.

  18. Movie Aristotle says:

    Thumbs UP!

  19. QueenLucy12 says:

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. Lili_Ramandu says:

OMG! OMG! OMG!!! I just got goosebumps from watching those videos! I cannot wait for the film!! I am actually more excited for this film than the final two Harry Potter films!! Eek!!

  21. necole says:

WOOOW!!!!!!! so gooood! i wanna see it right noww!!!

  22. King_Cor_the_Great says:

i like these videos, they were pretty shocking. Lucy just seems so laid back in the first one and last one and we finally got some talk shots of eustace and caspian! I was shocked to see that we didn't have much Reepicheep! I cant wait! Sail on VDT!

  23. narniafan says:

Orphans?? What? and Ben Barnes looks absolutely awful. The music in the dragon clip is no good at all.

    • Talvi says:

The music was exactly the same as in the first trailer, just extended – so I don't think we have to worry about that one. I'm just assuming that when they released this clip they decided it would do better with music so they snatched the trailer music. I'm sure we'll have a normal score when it actually comes in the movie!

    • WillowofNarnia says:

Why do you think Ben Barnes looks awful? I'm not crazy over the actor, but I love the character and I think he looks fine. :S

    • Starlily says:

I actually think Ben looks better as Caspian here than in PC. (And there's no call to be rude about his looks anyway. How would you feel if someone said that about you? Besides, he's not the one who does his hair and make-up in the movie, so he really can't help how he looks. 😉 )

      • liz says:

i liked it that he changed. it said in the book that it was 3yrs from PC-VODT. Maybe they did it to show that he's growing up. still like it & the accent.

  24. Meggie1996 says:

I just have to say, I love Drinan's accent.

  25. CEP Paul T says:

Wow! Just … wow! Will Poulter nails Eustace. Skandar Keynes and Georgie Henley are growing up. More like, done growing up. Oy.

  26. narniatirian says:

narnia is the best. long live aslan !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  27. waggawerewolf27 says:

Is Caspian going on to the Utter East in the third clip? Isn't he supposed to turn back with the Dawn Treader?

    • Ariel_of_Narnia says:

That question was asked back when the trailer came out. Some suggested that perhaps he rowed with them to land, then turned back so the Dawn Treader wouldn't be left without a boat.

      • waggawerewolf27 says:

Sounds fine. You wouldn't want to be without a lifeboat. 🙂

      • Alambil and Tarvis says:

Yeah, but isn't he standing there on land when Aslan comes in the trailer? O_o

My guess is that it is the lifeboat thing, but they just combined the end part with the earlier part about Caspian wanting to stay and then him seeing Aslan on the ship telling him that he has to go back. Maybe Aslan just tells him that on land instead? Or something? I dunno

    • elanor says:

      Where is Reepicheep?

  28. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HYPERVENTILATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  29. Gael looks like a very good actress (Arabella), I like her. Drinian's accent sounds pretty cool, and Will did a pretty good job of being a retarded jerk!!! I cannot WAIT to see the dragon part, I think their avoiding it on purpose, to keep it as a surprise. GOOD 4 U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  30. First clip 0:31 oh yeah and Eustace I loathe reading *information* who seriously cares? Fiction is AWESOME and anyone who hates fiction, I personally hate them. 😐

    • WillowofNarnia says:

Now, now….we're supposed to love our enemies. 🙂 Including people who hate fiction. 😀

    • Starlily says:

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. If you love fiction, that's fine, but you don't have to hate people who don't like the same things you do. I personally really like information books. (Although I'm not keen on children doing exercises in model schools, or dead beetles pinned on cards, like Eustace was. 😉 )

  31. tumnus says:

BLOODY BRILLIANT got shivers all over me body yeah

  32. Xenithar says:

Whee!! I am so excited! Nice clips, although I thought the cgi rocks falling instead of real ones was a bit cheap – oh well, it was safer, I suppose. Can't wait to see the dragon, either.

  33. Taigan says:

OK I think I discovered something!!! There has been speculation that the old King (or whoever it was that turned into the old dragon) is the skeleton that Eustace pushes aside and that he never turned into a dragon, but if you look carefully at clip 2 during around 0:30 seconds, you can see that Eustace hears a rumbling sound and turns to the side. When he turns a kind of mist/steam drifts past his face!!! But the clip then jumps to Caspian and Edmund trying to find Eustace. I think that the producers just cut out the dragon for now, and the grumbling/steam is the dying dragon that Eustace finds. They've been hiding it pretty well, but I'm sure it is there!!!

    • Starlily says:

I know what you mean, but I don't think you should be TOO sure until you see the full scene. It could be just steam from the ground. But I hope you're right. 😀

  34. FrecklefaceJill says:

Aaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS SOO AWESOME!!!!!!! :d 🙂

  35. Hope in the Lord says:

I think this going to be good, though I'm a little confused on the *orphans* bit. Did father and mother Pevensie die? Edmund is looking like he's going to be the protective big brother to Lucy and becoming a responsible cousin to Eustace. Skandar's voice has become deeper too. 😉 Looking forward to this.

    • Alambil and Tarvis says:

I think Eustace was just poking fun at them, since their parents are away for the holidays. It seemed to be just a stupid rhyme he made up for the heck of it.

  36. Michelle says:

    OMG!!! SKANDAR LOOKS AMAZING!!!

  37. Britt says:

Wow these are amazing clips! Can't wait to see the movie.
I was a little confused on the orphans bit also but then it got me wondering.
Maybe Eustace is calling them orphans because their stuck with him for the holiday while Peter and Susan are off on their own. Maybe he see's it like well Susan is in America with the parents and Peter's off studying so Edmund and Lucy were just abandoned and he had to get stuck with him.

    I don't know but it's just a thought.
By the way I believe Will Poulter is PERFFECT for the role as Eustace and I can't wait to see him in this movie! 🙂

  38. AJAiken says:

They absolutely made my day. I'm really excited by what I've seen here! Will Poulter is fantastic, and I think the others are doing a pretty good job as well!

  39. dinode says:

Fox asked that Aslanscountry.com take these videos off of their website.

    • WillowofNarnia says:

I figured that would happen. 🙁

    • Lucy says:

Noooooooo! Fox should have more sense than that! Don't they realize the great adverising they're giving up by having those taken down? Come awn, fox, I thought you were smarter than that, after all you picked up Narnia when Disney was dumb enough to drop it like a hot potato! Come on!

  40. narnianheart says:

I liked the first one best. I liked the 2nd one least.

    • pam says:

Thay are bothe the same I like them bothe thay are rally good they did a good job with them all.

  41. WillowofNarnia says:

I LOVED all three clips. We finally get to see more of Caspian and Eustace. I don't think anyone should be worrying about the whole "orphans" thing. Eustace is a bully so why shouldn't he call them that to annoy them? After all, they have to spend the summer with him while Susan and their parents get to go to America! 🙂 Also, I think that changing Caspian's accent isn't that bad. I thought in the beginning of clip three when he said "Aslan's country…" that he sounded almost Spanish again. And also, I am NOT a book stickler at ALL, but I LOVE Narnia to death, so really any story changes that they have ever done to any of the movies was fine with me. So I know that this movie will be amazing as well. 😀

  42. Reepicheep says:

I love the three videos. Will it show in the movie when Eustace becomes a dragon? And will they show the sea monster?

    • WillowofNarnia says:

I don't know if it will show him transforming into a dragon (that would be pretty strange, don't you agree?) but it will definately show him in his dragon form. And the sea serpent will be there as well. I remember reading something while they were filming about Skandar rolling around the deck of the ship trying to get away from a sea serpent. It is going to be an amazing movie! 😉

    • Reepicheep says:

Who made their first post on this website? Coz I have a feeling you stole my name.

    • Alambil and Tarvis says:

Yeah, it's going to show it. I think Fox & Walden are just keeping those parts under wraps because they want everyone to pay to see the movie in order to see those parts 😀 Which I think is a very smart idea. Plus, everyone will be dazzled/shocked/wowed/etc. if the first time they see the dragon and the sea serpent are in the theater. And possibly in 3D. 😀

  43. Stephanie says:

Ohhhhhh!!! Love the new clips!!! I can't wait til the movie comes out! It's gonna be totally awesome!!!

  44. Jill says:

Well this is sort of sad for me cause that last one there can only be seen on a mobile device if your a Vimeo plus member, so I'll just have to wait the first two are great though.

  45. Reepthemouse says:

I love all of the clips, especially the second.

Does anyone know when the results will come out for the Dawn Treader in the UK competition? I'm dying to see if I've won.

  46. High Queene ShellyBelly says:

    good stuff!

  47. Reepicheep says:

These clips are freaking awesome!!!:D Eustace needs a good actor and so far I'm convinced with Will Poulter's acting. I imagined the place where Eustace found the jewels was more of a cave than a desert.

  48. Lea says:

Eustace seems a perfect little brat… ! Can't wait to see the movie!

  49. Not Of This World says:

    Drinian's acent is so cool!

  50. Alambil and Tarvis says:

WILL. POULTER. IS. AMAZING. O.M.G. =O

And I noticed how the clips seem oddly edited–it's probably because they cut out some stuff that will be in the film so as not to give everything away. They do that a lot for trailers/early-released clips.

Anyway, I'm SOOOO excited!!! I'm glad they kept in the Eustace-Edmund talk about him becoming human again–it was in a different place and not as deep as the book (where Ed says "you were only an [blank]; I was a traitor"), but it was still in there 🙂 I just hope there isn't TOO much change w/ Gael and all. And I want that Reepicheep-talking-with-Eustace-the-dragon scene to still be in it.

But overall, I am really psyched now. 109 DAYS!!!

  51. Eliseo says:

Is it me or does Drinian have a Telmarine accent? That would be cool!

    • GlimGlum says:

He does have some kind of accent. Don't know exactly what it is. Maybe Gary Sweet will tell us when VDT is released. 🙂

  52. pam says:

I cant wat untill the movie comes out I would love to see it with my freinds or my familly I am so exided for it to come out know I just hve to read the book over a gan.

  53. High Queene ShellyBelly says:

lucy seems so toned down , almost colorless actingwise-

  54. allalea says:

No the clips have been removed!!!

  55. Aslan says:

Okay officially i thought this movie was going to be slightly abd when i first watched the trailer but seeing these makes it look better then the first too! I can't wait for this to come out! Lol and I love Eustace Hes so greedy but theres something about him that makes me laugh. His attitude. I just love it when he goes ''I must be dreaming'' the he starts nicking all the gold as soon as he sees it. But he should watch him self. Aslan is watching 0.0

  56. christy bissinger says:

Omg! They're gone! Stupid copyright! I'm seriously freaking out! Does anyone know where else to watch them now that Youtube has taken these down?

  57. DOECOG says:

Can any sum up the first two clips for me? Fox took them off the website before I had a chance to watch them :(.

    • Talvi says:

sure! I can give you a basic overview if you like, I watched them enough! XD
first clip: Starts out with Eustace writing in his diary, Lucy calls 'we're home!' and he quickly stuffs his diary in his sock. Then we get the scene from the trailer, describing the painting. Then Eustace comes in and says, "There once were two orphans who wasted their time, believing in Narnian Nursury rhymes." Edmund replies with "There once was a boy named Eustace, who read books full of facts that were useless." (Go Ed!)
Anyways, Lucy ignored Eustace and continues to look at the painting. Eustace goes on this little rant saying how useless Lucy and Edmund are, and how they'll end up being a hideous burden to people who read books filled with real information, etc. etc…. just being a prat, basically.
Edmund gets really upset with that and turns around and says, "Hideous Burden??? I haven't seen you lift a finger since we've been here!" And then the painting starts to dump out water and the clip ends.

    • Talvi says:

Second clip is shorter. Eustace tumbles down a cliff and ends up in this huge pile of gold. he says something like "I must be dead," And starts nicking everything in sight. There's a skeleton with an armband on it – he knocks over the skeleton and takes its band. (So that's presumably the lord… Octesian, or something like that. *shrugs*)
Then it cuts to Edmund and Caspian, shouting for Eustace. They find the plain full of gold, and a shoe. (Eustace's shoe, maybe? Dunno.) Then Edmund says, "What could have happened to him?" Caspian says he's sorry, and Edmund says, "I never should have left him…" <– Seriously good bit of acting from Skandar there, btw.
Then it cuts to the ship, with Lucy, Gael, and Drinian. We see a flash of fire, Lucy asks what it is. Gael asks if it's the volcano, and Drinian replies in a really cool accent, "No, that's no volcano," and it ends.

(I already had a summary written for these two…. I hope this gives you an idea about what it was like! The clips srsly rock.)

  58. Narnian Meerkat says:

Oh, I loved them! But I HATED the stupid, cheezy music they added in to it. . .That just sucked.
But at least the clips were good.
Edmund. . .WOW. He looks so grown up and he is CUTE when he is angry. . .
And for the Lord Drinian, I really like his voice.
