Jadis looks like a gogo dancer in futuristic Tarantino film, and not in a bad way honestly. It wasn’t what I expected, but it’s clearly a take, an original one from Jacqueline Durran who is capable of giving the most incredible gowns of the century ie Atonement green dress( the most iconic dress of the 21st century) so I’m intrigued at the choice. I think that costume may highlight a lighter tone in line with Paddington than the more austere and mature works of Anna Karenina and Marie Antoinette. Kinda here for it !?!
I think it’s fine to be shocked but look at the immaculate costume design on the background actors in the same shots or in Little women(I am aware there are no bonnets and Emma Watsons wedding gown is questionable) or even in Barbie( whether u like the film or not) , I don’t think the 2 time Oscar winning costume designer who recently did Blitz a film set in 1940s Britain with beautiful costumes for Saoirse Ronan especially her red suit would suddenly become senile.
Glumpuddle is way too easy going about these changes. I completely agree with the idea that because this is the first Magician’s Nephew we have had that it is absolutely devastating that it is not anything at all like the book. That and we already know they are never going to get Aslan right. They are never going to understand the real truths in the book and translate the weight of that to the screen. At least i thought we might get some visuals, and that does not seem to be the case.
I think the kids are really cute but Jadis looks ridiculous.
After seeing the video clips of the stunt rider in action, the outfit looks ok from a distance. As someone pointed out on a previous news post, the stunt rider is standing in the stirrups, likely to appear taller. This begs the question of how the odd stirrup placement and standing will be concealed. I am hoping for perhaps a flowing CGI skirt and flowing CGI hair. Unlikely, but I’m hoping. I wonder if the odd orange and green pauldrons could be CGI markers as well.
You can see the wand up close in the photos in this article:

I’m disappointed about her having a wand when that wasn’t in the book. Why can’t the stick more to the book? And no carriage! That’s one of the things I wanted to see most.
The fact that people on (including the director) are wearing pins of maned lions makes me think the mural is more likely to be legitimate foreshadowing than misdirection!
Re: Alex Anaros’s comment. I don’t remember anything spectacular about the costumes from Little Women (2019), though I do remember hearing they won an award so maybe I’m just not remembering, but I agree that the costumes for Digory, Polly and the background extras look great.
While Jadis’ costume looks absolutely ridiculous, perhaps this is somehow Greta conveying how odd Jadis stands out in our world. Maybe Jadis put some odd clothing pieces together making her look totally inappropriate for the 1950s, such as in the book when Aunt Letty is shocked by Jadis’ bare arms
Jadis looks like a 1960’s gogo dancer.
