Jadis Chase Continues in January Cold as Netflix’s ‘Narnia’ Resumes Public Filming

Filming on the extended Jadis chase sequence for Netflix’s Chronicles of Narnia adaptation has resumed, pushing on into the freezing January winter after first being shot during the summer months.
What’s on Netflix shared new photos and videos taken this past weekend at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, confirming that this is the same large-scale chase sequence previously filmed across Manchester, London, and Bradford in August and September. Production has now returned to the sequence, picking it back up in a new location as filming continues into the new year.
The Greenwich shoot briefly confused onlookers, with some members of the public mistaking the production for Avengers: Doomsday. However, the period vehicles, costuming, and familiar staging seen in the images make it very clear that the footage belongs to Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew.
As with earlier sightings from this sequence, Jadis is once again seen moving through mid-century London streets, pursued by police, with Digory seemingly being held captive. While Emma Mackey has been cast as the White Witch, all publicly visible filming of this chase so far has made use of a stunt double, rather than Mackey herself.

Video was captured from Instagram user gerald.lynch.cockney and photos from HowesImages. You can view more images of the chase sequence here via What’s On Netflix.

Definitely thought we were done with on-location shoots for this sequence so this was somewhat surprising!
Pick ups already? Hard to believe it was part of the original plan to film half this sequence in the summer, and the other half in winter!
I just had to smile looking at the photo of (presumably) Strawberry wearing a warm covering. The line immediately came to mind: “Me what never forgot to put your cloth on you if you was standing in the _ cold? I wouldn’t ‘ave thought it of you, Strawberry.”
Also, I’m getting used to seeing Jadis looking like this. I suppose I can allow it if they do well with themes, messages, heart and character development.
Magician’s Nephew is only my second favorite of the books, but this very short sequence was my favorite scene in the entire series. Something about the magical world spilling over into the ordinary world just tickles my fancy. I always found it frustrating that the scene was so short. So I’m glad the film is going to do more with it.
These are probably pick-up shots. I feel so bad for the stunt double having to wear that in the cold. Things like that are why I realized I preferred being a director instead of an actress. I get to wear whatever I want no matter the weather (as well as always wear sunglasses outside).
Brrr… Maybe Jadis is already creating an eternal winter in London before Digory can stop her!
I’ll admit, this looks cool!
Presumably these shoots are being done now only because filming got delayed in July. I feel for them out in the cold. (I was in a fairly light costume in mid November for a ‘Turning On The Christmas Lights ‘ event in UK. It was just a few degrees above freezing)
I’m sorry, but that dress is still AWFUL. Emma Mackey deserves so much better. I’m really screwed for the costumes she’s gonna wear in the movie. I feel so bad for the stunt double having to wear that awful dress
“Guys this is a leaked set photo and it’s probably a stunt/body double. No final lighting/CGI yet let’s wait for the official trailer before judging.”
Just so gappy that Magicians Nephew is coming to life ,lovely to see the London shots ,we’ve waited so long, very exciting
I’m super peeved that they chose this time frame for the films when using the time frame from the books is essential to the story, not just for this book. It also doesn’t make sense that Jadis can just nab a horse off the street in that time when it was more common to find them in Digory’s childhood in the books (some 50 or 60 years or so before WW2) before cars were common.
I don’t like the time change either, but you can rationalize using a horse inside this time frame when you remember that some horse-drawn carriages are still used in some cities as novelties. Also, neither Jadis nor Digory would know how to drive a car because one is from another world and the other is a child (though my great-grandfather did learn to drive at a very young age). Jadis might feel more comfortable riding on a horse than in a car because it is more familiar to her and it would be easier to blast people from horseback than from inside a closed up machine. Even in the book Jadis did not ride in Frank’s cab properly: she stood on top of it as if it were a chariot, which was an item she was familiar with.
Still, I wish they hadn’t changed the time frame. The fact that we actually won’t get to see Jadis standing on top of a racing cab is very sad. It was one of my favorite parts of the book, perhaps because we got to see how very wild and different from the rest Jadis was. *sniff*
I knew the second Netflix picked up Narnia it would be completely ruined. Same with HBO picking up Harry Potter. They promise faithful to books, then throw the books in the trash. SMDH…
I wonder why the Jadis double has a line drawn around her face?
I think the line is the string that is holding her wig on.
