‘Enola Holmes’ Actress Susan Wokoma Among New Cast Additions in Narnia

With principal photography now complete on Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew, new casting details are beginning to emerge from Greta Gerwig’s first Chronicles of Narnia film.
NarniaWeb has received a report that British actress, writer, and director Susan Wokoma has been cast in an undisclosed role.
Wokoma is best known for her role as Edith in Netflix’s Enola Holmes franchise, a character she is set to reprise in the third installment this year. Her credits include the comedy series Chewing Gum, in which she starred opposite Michaela Coel, as well as BBC’s Cheaters. In addition to her on-screen work, Wokoma has an extensive background in voice acting across television series and video games.
In 2017, Wokoma earned a place on BAFTA’s “Breakthrough Brits” list, highlighting her rise as a standout talent in British film and television.
Additional cast members believed to appear in the film include Gerard Monaco and James Murray.
- Monaco’s screen credits span more than two decades and include roles in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Blitz (2019), and Netflix’s 3 Body Problem. He has built a reputation for a wide range of small roles across film and television.
- Murray has primarily worked in British television and miniseries, most notably portraying Prince Andrew across 13 episodes of Netflix’s The Crown. His recent credits also include Apple TV+’s Masters of the Air.

Details surrounding all three roles remain under wraps, and Netflix has not officially confirmed any of the castings. Representatives for Wokoma, Monaco, and Murray did not respond to our requests for comment.
Previously confirmed cast members for The Magician’s Nephew include David McKenna as Digory Kirke, Beatrice Campbell as Polly Plummer, Daniel Craig as Uncle Andrew, Emma Mackey as Queen Jadis, Carey Mulligan as Mabel Kirke, and Denise Gough in an unknown role.
Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is the first of “at least” two films Greta Gerwig is developing for Netflix based on the books by C.S. Lewis, which will open later this year.

Here it comes.
Yes – finally getting some steady news! Hopefully this is only the start!
I wonder if Susan might voice one of the animals, given her voice acting experience. Either way, seems like these three will play smaller roles.
Oh, this is quite the coincidence!! Enola Homes just so happens to be one of my other loves so this is a nice crossover for me 🙂
I can totally see Gerard Monaco or James Murray possibly playing King Frank. I also think James Murray has a comedic side to him, to voice Fledge.
Wasn’t there a rumor that Saoirse Ronan was also going to be in this movie because of her association to Greta? Maybe she or Susan Wokoma will play Queen Helen, since we don’t have a confirmation for Queen Helen either. Also Denise Gough’s role wasn’t confirmed, and people speculated her to be Aunt Letty, for the “mean to children” comment. However, I always pictured Aunt Letty to be an older lady, so she possibly can be playing Jadis’ sister. Idk haha
She definitely feels of the right age and stature for a role like Helen…. I can’t see her just playing a random background extra.
If principle filming has wrapped, they all have to be voice actors, right? Unless they’ve done their work and managed to keep it under wraps?
A few other people have mentioned Queen Helen, and that is where my mind went too. I don’t know her work, by just on that photo, I could see her in that role. Except for the fact that her descendants would no longer be fair-skinned Narnians. I can see Greta messing with that one, but I’d be interested then to see how see makes the distinctions between Narnians and Calormenes. (If she manages to make it that far into the series.)
I won’t have much of an opinion until we know what roles they’re playing, but happy to see some smaller actors attached. Welcome to Narnia!!
@Johnny Saoirse Ronan says she asked Greta Gerwig in Narnia, even if it’s just her “making tea”. Safe to say she’ll have a role, but I’m thinking it’ll be an animal voice.
@Jo My understanding is that their involvement was kept under wraps until now. Given that Monaco and Murray don’t really have voice acting backgrounds, it seems likely they’re on-screen rather than VO. Their roles could still be quite small, though — something like a policeman interrogating Jadis, for example.
I saw the first Enola Holmes movie, but it didn’t make much of an impression on me, so I can’t say anything about Wokoma either way.
I’m kind of tired of casting announcements that don’t tell us which characters the actors are playing. I know The Magician’s Nephew isn’t as famous as The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe so the names of characters wouldn’t mean much to the general public but…come on!
