In this episode, the podcasters recap the last several weeks of Narnia movie news as Greta Gerwig wraps filming.
What will the title of the movie be? Who will Susan Wokoma play? How big of a role will/should Samantha Spiro‘s Beaver character have? Should fans be concerned about Editor Andrew Weisblum’s comments? And what is up with the production acquiring a dead tree?

267 days to go!!
Theoretically, I think they should set up the marsh-wiggles in The Magician’s Nephew since that’s just good continuity. But practically speaking, I fear it would take some of the joy of discovery away from The Silver Chair. Then again, it’s likely the Netflix series won’t make it as far as The Silver Chair, so maybe it’d be nice to at least know what marsh-wiggles look like in Netflix’s Narnia universe. (I’m still sort of sad we don’t know what they look like in Walden Media’s Narnia universe.)
I know that since the movie comes out this year, there will be a lot of news the podcasters will want to discuss…but could we ever get a few more of those Last Battle episodes? I was really enjoying those.
Of course, that’s coming from a fan who has sort of lost interest in the upcoming movie. I’m not one of those expecting to hate it but I’m really not expecting to love it either. Like I try to say good things about what we’ve seen but I can’t seem to do so without qualifiers. I think the sets looks great but they’re for the wrong time period. I think the costumes look great except for Jadis’s. I’m sure the casting is fine, but I don’t like the Meryl Streep thing. I’m just sort of “meh, whatever” about the project. Hopefully, and similar to the sentiments expressed at the end of this episode, a trailer will make me excited for it again in a good, non-angry way.
I won’t speak for Glumpuddle on The Last Battle commentary w/ Rillian and Gymfan, but I do know they have a fun (non-movie news) episode coming up!
Yes! Even a march wiggle in the distance (or perhaps when the River God and his Naiad daughters come out of the river, we see some Marsh Wiggles coming out of a marshy bog).
I always imagined Frank and Helen as a very young couple. Susan Wokoma, at 38 may be a bit older than I was imagining, but as you said in the podcast, she is quite energetic and youthful. I think she could make a good Queen Helen. 🙂
For future Narnia movies, I’m predicting that the Archenlanders in Netflix’s take on The Horse and His Boy (Shasta, Corin and King Lune) will likely be played by bi-racial British actors, rather than English-British. Think about it: Archenlanders are descendants of King Frank and Queen Helen’s family tree. So obviously GG is doing this on purpose. Just an observation. I know a thousand years separates MN from HHB, but Netflix seems to be going in that direction.
