New ‘Dawn Treader’ Trailer Online
The DVD release of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” includes a short new trailer for “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.” You can now watch a low-quality version of it on YouTube. The video is very poor, but the audio is excellent. Watch it below:
UPDATE: NarniaFans has posted a better-quality version (the aspect ratio is a bit off, making everything look tall and stretched, but the color looks much better):
And, here are good-quality screen captures of the new/updated shots:

Overall, this is a significantly better trailer than the first! The shot is Lucy slowly walking down the hall is awesome. The cinematography is beautiful, and I love Georgie’s expression. I hope that scene is just as creepy as it is in the book.
There are definitly some things that make me cringe (“think of the lost souls”?), but overall…this actually, unlike the first trailer, kind of looks like a “Voyage of the Dawn Treader” movie!
Don't cringe about the lost souls – a soul lost at sea is simply someone who is lost. It does not have to have any spiritual or fantasy overtones!
I don't like this one anywhere near as much as the first one. It pretends to be telling a story, but the speakers don't move their lips, nothing is linked, the scenery is weird (looks like Gaiman wrote the screenplay).
I hope this ISN'T a good indicator of the film.
Yes, maybe the 'lost souls' are just the seven lost Lords of Narnia. At least I'm hoping that's the case.
Coracle, you enjoyed the first trailer more? Granted there were aspects of the first I enjoyed but it frustrated me as a whole. This short trailer doesn't show as much but what it does is interesting and it seems to have it's own unique identity. I'm positive that we'll get another full-length trailer before VDT is released.
Unlike the firs trailer, which started with a joke, this trailer starts slow, and lets you feel like you're in this world. It builds up the suspense a little before it gets fast. At the beginning, it almost feels like Aslan is talking to the viewer.
You have to watch this trailer from the point-of-view of someone who doesn’t know the story. There is an emotional link between everything. It tells a story. We hear Aslan at the beginning say “…you have returned for a reason.” Then Lucy slowly walking up to a mysterious book. The implication is that she’s going to find out the reason she has been called. This trailer lets you dwell on that idea of being called back for a reason before it starts throwing random stuff at you.
It's not a great trailer. It's okay. It's just a lot better than the first.
Ha, i was thinking the same thing, that Gaiman wrote the screenplay. it does seem very Neil Gaiman like. it has that aura.
Yeah, souls is another way of saying people, because we have a body & a soul. I like the feel of this trailer better, it just needs MORE!
Well, in the trailer's defense, I have to say that Caspian's line sounds like it could be spoken at the Dark Island. What do you think?
I agree Gymfan15,I too think that Caspian's line is to keep everybody strong while at Dark Island!
I agree. Mainly because you do not hear anything else besides Caspian that moment. It seems that there's no other person/creature making any noise during his speech.
I agree completely with you Gymfan15! When I watched the trailer the first thing that came to mind was that that line was from the dark island scene.
I like that idea. I couldn't figure out where that line would go at first, but I think it makes perfect sense for it to be at the Dark Island. It could be a pretty good scene, too. (I also like Caspian's English accent. 😛 It sounds so much more natural)
WOW, I don't think you should make fun of Gaiman like that. I've heard that his movie screenplays weren't all that great, but I've read 5 of his books, and they are among the best and most origial stories I've ever read. His imagination is limitless! And he was involved in the Stardust adaptation too, which was great (and which music was used in the first teaser, as I recently realized).
Is that a picture of a dragon on the stained-glass window?
I think it's a lamp-post actually! 🙂
Pretty cool how the Walden logo fades into the window. I wonder if something like that will happen in the actual movie. Kind of like what they did at the beginning of PC.
Hey check this out: 0:08 of trailer #1 and 0:14 of trailer #2. Isn't that the same building? I also noticed that there are THRONES behind the four kids!!! *is suspicious*
Did anyone notice that at 0:45 Susan has her Bow and arrows and Peter Rhindon
yeah I noticed that!! If I wasn't confused then(watching the 1st trailer) I AM NOW!!!
Beautiful trailer! This wasn't messy like the previous one. It gave a feeling of nice sea adventure. Though I can't help but to wish they would have let it be like that: we have enough epic grim serious stories of mighty destiny. Just enchanted adventure would have been nice break to that… But anyway, this is engouraging! Think of Aslan!
Star Girl looks beautiful! Wow, I have to admit, the CGI and special effects took a turn for the better. This is also apparent in the mer-girl Lucy waves to in the water! Now with a dragon and some intense action scenes, this will be one heck of a movie! Overall, looks quite a beautiful, I especially find the scenery of narnia quite enchanting (if that's even narnia???) I have hope this will be great now!!!
Some of the effects still look a bit unfinished to me, like the Dawn Treader in the shot when she's on open sea, Reepicheep in bright daylight and the blue light of RD. I wonder if it's David Arnold we're hearing in this "trailer". I love the music.
Yeah, some of the effects look unfinished to me too. Is it just me and you? Everyone else seems to like them. I hope I'll like them in the movie. 🙁 It's not that they're bad…they just don't wow me. And I want Narnia to wow me.
The trailer itself is nice enough, although I still need to watch it a couple hundred times to make up my mind. 😉 On the whole, I think this trailer raises more questions than it answers. What significance does the cathedral have at the beginning? Where does Lilliandil appear? Who are the "lost souls" that Caspian sounds so urgent about? Is that bright doorway in Coriakin's garden the only way to get into his house? And where on earth are the Pevensies reunited in Narnian clothing?? Very interesting, and I can't wait to learn more (and see Eustace and the sea serpent).
No, I don't think the effects are all that great either. Reep especially makes me cringe; I've seen video games in higher quality!
The scene of the Dawn Treader on the ocean looks awful to me. The rest of the trailer is epic; I'm so glad that the CGI looks so much better in general.
yes, i agree. that shot looked terribly done, and bad quality.
yes, the music is amazing! i have it stuck in my head now 🙂
"Greatest voyage in CS Lewis' epic masterpiece." Haha. Yeah. The only voyage.
So, will you do another trailer analysis? The one you did was great.
Yes, I'd look forward to an in-depth treatment of this trailer.
I agree Gpuddle! Do another analysis!
Yes I've just watched your analysis on the first trailer. Very good indeed!
Pleeease do another on this trailer!
From Dictionary.com – voy·age (noun)
1. a course of travel or passage, esp. a long journey by water to a distant place.
2. a passage through air or space, as a flight in an airplane or space vehicle.
3.a journey or expedition from one place to another by land.
chron·i·cle (noun)
1. a chronological record of events; a history.
Taking all of the meanings of 'voyage' into account, most of the books either are voyage stories (VTD, SC, HHB, MN) or have voyage segments in them (LWW, PC, LB) so technically the trailer is actually correct. It's no coincidence Lewis named the series the Chronicles of Narnia. The books are, in a way, travelogues of journeys through another world.
That's what I thought!!!!!!!
Not much more to say other than this is the trailer I was hoping for! Much, much better than the first. I actually feel excited again about the movie. Fantastic! Still not sure about the 'lost souls' talk but everything else looks amazing.
I still think that the movie looks amazing, and this new trailer gives me even better hope. I love the sequence with Lucy and the book. My only pet peeve is how bad Aslan's roar sounds, like a "loud burp". At least in the other two movies, his roar sounded like a lion. Otherwise, I loved it heaps! Well done Fox, Walden, Michael Apted, everybody!
I liked the trailer too. Most of the shots which were also in the first trailer had a very nice upgrade. Just one little thing: why does it have to be soooooooo short??? there were only things in it we've already seen…
Very cool!! Only I wish it weren't so short.
Well it was nice to here Caspian without his accent. He doesn't sound too bad to me. 🙂
WOW, and that on my birthday!!!!
Happy Birthday! I think it's very clear that Fox and Walden are trying to hold back on the big CGI shots (maybe because they truly are incomplete). This trailer doesn't "give anything more away." WHich, isn't really a problem, I just wish we could clear up the Pevensie problem, Dragon/Sea Serpent situation, etc.
Happy Birthday!!!
Ditto!
This trailer looks better than the one on Dairy of a Wimpy Kid. The one on Wimpy Kid was horrible quality. The content was good.
I love that Caspian has an English accent. Now I can actually enjoy watching his character.
AWESOOOOOOOOMMMMMEEEE! Sorry, I was sooooo excited watching this! Same here, Nathan, his accent is now much more enjoyable! Now I won't have to cringe in theaters! 😉 I do like how the Brit accent is not too strong (that's if you noticed). It has a Meditteranean air to it; better than in Prince of Persia, where they had very strong british accents. I agree with everyone else, why does it have to be sooooooo short! I felt like it was 5 long seconds! FOX trailers really aren't that great though. I like New Line & Disney ones better. This trailer still feels like a teaser. Well, Aug., Sept, Oct, & Nov had better fly by fast.
That was good! Essentially it feels more like a magical Narnia trailer. The Pevensie walk most definitely looks like something in a dream or vision since the background looks so much like Cair Paravel, i'm not worried about that scene no more. What makes me cringe is that Susan's horn is on the voyage. In the book it was explained that Caspian uses his own horn to not accidently bring the Pevensie's back when Narnia wasn't in trouble and that Susan's horn was protected by Trumpkin back at Cair Paravel in Narnia. That makes no sense to carry it on a voyage. Though it was great hearing Caspian speak, still I wanted more and wanted more Eustace and the purpose of the voyage, and I know seeing Peter and Susan isn't.
But then again, in the book, Caspian brought Lucy's cordial on the voyage. And he had no idea that the children would be returning to Narnia at that point, so I guess he planned on using it for himself. Maybe Susan's horn also would explain why Susan's bow, quiver, and arrows, and Peters sword are on board the Dawn Treader.
It's just weird because it looks like it's in Caspian's cabin.
This should so have been the Teaser! It's much better, although some of the effects look worse than in the previous one. Other effects look better, true. But all in all it feels much more like the book, other than the teaser, which just felt like a cheap rip-off to me.
i think maybe this is the teaser. it seems to be a very teaser-like trailer, if that makes sense.
It's the same music as in the robin hood trailer, by the way.
Okay, so now I've had a chance to view the trailer properly, with not so much happening around me, and I've decided I like the flavor of it better. It actually gave me a chill, which the other one didn't do. Oh, and now that I know Ramandu's daughter is appearing at the table of food, I'm really happy. I can't wait to see more footage of everything! (But I do hope the effects get better)
Not bad, still nothing about the actual plot, but not bad. I do like this one better, but I'm not sure if that's just because I have had time to get used to the other one.
I loved the first trailer and I've watched it 26 times! But this one just felt so generic compared to the first though, because of the music at the beginning and the unfinished special effects.
this trailer was AWSOME!!!!! we finally hear Caspian but do not see him! and the shots of Ramandus Daughter are beautiful!!:D I liked the music in this one better than the last one!! GO NARNIA!!!!!!!!
I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow! That was AWESOME!!!!
i love it!!!!!!!! i loved lucy's face when she was walking to the book. can't wait to see the movie!!!!!!!
Awesome screen caps! 😀 EEE! Hey, is that the MAGIGIAN'S house in those screen caps where Lucy's walking into the door? Pretty neat if his house is invisible too because of the spells 😀
I really liked this trailer. Wish it had been a little bit longer. ONLY FOUR MORE MONTHS TILL IT COMES TO THEATERS!!!!! Keep the story of Asaln alive!!!!
I don't know if everyone saw this but Susan has her quiver???????
I saw it! 😀 (the quiver! =D I'm kinda excited about seeing the kids (Susan/Peter) there! 😀 Just because I'd miss them otherwise… though I'm *SURE* Apted has a good excuse or reason for having them in Narnia clothes… 🙂 Looks like Cair, though it might not be… maybe the eastern end of the worlds? But it really looks like Cair…
For some reason the comp won'tlet me watch this………
FFJ
The visual effects are really ruining it for me, I'd say the first movie had much much better CGI. Also preferred Reep's voice in the last teaser.
This is beyond awesome! It's BE-awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let it begin!!!!!!
Still no signs of a Dragonified Eustace. No shocker there. 😉
i prefer the line "you have an extrodinary destiny…." in the first trailer, but overall this trailer looks really good. Caspian sounds so much more royal (i think its the change of accent) i just can't wait for the movie 🙂
i still think the first was better and more professional looking, but this one is great too. love the Lucy with the snow falling scene, she has the loveliest expression!
wow, Caspian sounds VERY different. he really is back to the british accent. hearing it, i now miss the mediterranean accent. i still dont understand why they changed it.
i saw absolutely nothing of Eustace or Edmund. you would think a new character would get more attention, like Caspian did in PC. but, i guess that was just because he was the title role. but hey! Eustace is just as important, if not more! im really hoping, if they make more trailers, they would show more of him.
that scene with the pevensies walking side by side (all in narnian clothes too) is both strange and fascinating. i am really interested in what that scene is all about, and what the significance of Susan and Peter being there is.
i think that voice, who's ever it is (i think the narator, or maybe coriakin) sounds a bit strange. didnt like that.
over all, this is a very cool trailer. perfect for a simple DVD trailer, but i think the other was more fit for a real official trailer. it was better done, more professional in my taste. nothing against this one though.
hey, if you look at the sreen cap of the pevensies side by side, Susan is carrying her quiver. and im guessing Peter has his sword Rhindon. oh, and Lucy is so rediculously tall! she's as tall as Edmund and Peter! wow! boy, has Georgie grown! and i think i also see what looks like thrones behind them. hmm….this scene is so mysterious, i just cannot imagine what it could be for! im wracking my brain for theories, but i cannot think of any. anyone have ideas?
I enjoyed the first trailer, with it showing scenes from the book and having that adventerous theme. This trailer I enjoyed because of that Narnian feel, that this world is truly Narnia! I'm quivering in excitment right at this instant! This movie is going to be great, and now I'm positive of it going to be true (although I not overly sure)! About four months 'til it comes out! 😀
Awesome!! It's neat to see some more clips! The first one was more moving than this one, but any trailer is great as long as it's got some more tiny snippets of the movie! 😀 Long live Aslan and sail on VDT!!!!
Awesome!! It's neat to see some more clips! The first one was more moving than this one, but any trailer is great as long as it's got some more tiny snippets of the movie! 😀 Long live Aslan and sail on VDT!!!! 😀
Sorry bout the duplicate my laptop was acting weird…
Reep has a different voice in his line. The effects look a lot better! Caspian's British accent is great! So glad they changed that.
Now as for the scene with the 4 Pevensies. Look at the bushes below the thrones, they look like something from the Magician's garden. Perhaps it's a sort of flashback or something from the spell book?
Hmmmmmmm, I must say, I think this trailer is encouraging. I think we're getting a better glimpse of the film as a whole, rather than a bunch of random clips thrown in our face. Still curious about the story changes, and a few parts that I didn't recognize from the book right off, as well as what that scene is with all four Pevensies. We'll see.
I just loved seeing new footage.
Um……I know all of you think this is better, but this is not a good trailer. My biggest problem with it? Lucy,Lucy, and look there's more Lucy. I have no issue with her being a main focus but the story is about Eustace! Do we see one glance of any other main charecter such as Eustace, Edmund, or Caspian? At least Caspian talks in this one. Oh well, th e movie will still be great.
actually, i think this story is more about Lucy and Edmund, and especially Lucy. this is their last time in Narnia, and remembering the book they had more of a significance to the story. im not saying Eustace isnt important, he's very important to the story, and Caspian. but, the Silver Chair is Eustace's story. i dont mind that the Pevensies are getting the glory, but yes i would like to see more of Eustace, especially when he's a new character and all us crazy fans want to sum him up and see how he is doing 🙂
I thought the trailer was very moving. I teared up. It reminded me of the first time I watched the first LWW teaser o so long ago!
I thought the choice of music was perfect, and the scene with Lucy in the magician's room was stunning. It seems the filmmakers are trying to bring people back to the simple yet regal beauty – and joy – of first film.
Good trailer but too much Lucy. Not enough Caspian and Edmund.
how extrodinary. even though it is short.
This gives me more hope than the first trailer.
Also, I'm really liking this soundtrack. Hope that it pervades the movie with that intensity.
I loved the trailer, although I'm still intensely frustrated by the scene with all four Pevensies. I have instant gratification issues. I want to know where they are and why Peter and Susan are there!
I hate that this trailer is so short. I want more/different images from the first trailer. Too much focus on Lucy. What about Caspian, Edmund, and Eustace?! At least we hear Caspian's English accent this time! Which I like. "Lost souls" = evangelical phrase for sinners, people who are lost without Christ, lost sheep, etc. Don't think too much of it. I do like the evangelical emphasis though, which is paramount in Dark Island! Remember Lord Rhoop? The whole scene uses Christian imagery and phrases for rescuing someone who's spiritually lost!
Ditto! We still can't know how Eustace will be.
I like Lilliandil better this time. She looks like a star girl. And she isn't glowing the whole time. She wasn't glowing on the movie stand. 😉
Good trailer but are the "Lost souls"just the seven lost Lords?
I love the feeling of this one better then the last one, more serious. And I noticed Susan is holding her bows in the screen shot of all four pevensie's.
And what's with Lilliandil saying "The Fate of Narnia Depends on You" When it closes up on the oldest two pevensies.
I LOVE IT !!!!
It's great
AWESOME!!!!
CAN'T WAIT
YYYYeeaahhh I dont like this one nearly as much as the first
same here
Am I the only one noticing that Aslan is VERY different from before? Let me….make a list….and I'll keep it chronological with the new trailer.
1. 0:15-0:18
Aslan looks…well, almost animatronic. Now, I have nothing against animatronics. Ever seen 101 Dalmatians with Glenn Close? The live action one. The new-born puppies were animatronics. They looked SO real…and that was years ago (1996)! Also, the old BBC production of the Narnia movies (LWW, PC, VDT, SC), Aslan WAS an animatronic of sorts. These 3-4 seconds in the trailer seem to be a form of that, only done MUCH better.
My gripe is this: his mouth. Watch it move, hear him speak….this is NOT a japanese anime or godzilla! His mouth opens and closes once…and 7 words come out. In the first two movies, his mouth and lips would move just enough that it wasn't 'normal' for a lion, but it didn't feel out of a lion's probable range of movements and expressions, IF a lion could talk. It was VERY well done, and gave a sense of almost reassurance. It was comfortable. He was regal, majestic….THIS feels like it came out of Jim Henson's Labyrinth with David Bowie!
This 'new' Aslan….well….he looks like the Pink Panther to me…..wow….that was very difficult to say.. ugh….
2. 0:45-0:47
Susan? Peter? I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK OR WHAT THEY ARE THINKING, BUT THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE IN NARNIA! Flashback to PC…..Aslan says to Peter and Susan that they are TOO OLD and will NEVER return to Narnia! (yeah, yeah, TLB, but that's technically not the Narnia they knew, soooo…) So what….they're making Aslan a liar?….
3. 1:01-1:03
Uh…it was mentioned before, and I just hope it's the quality of the trailer, but that roar is kinda pathetic. And he just ….something doesn't look right…doesn't feel right……is this a different team working on Aslan?
Just look at the old Aslan and the new Aslan. You'll see the differences. Maybe they're trying to make Aslan look…younger? I know that for every year the children grow, so shall he….hey! Another gripe….he looks smaller.
I'm sorry for being the pessimistic one here, but have you ever read Lewis's Space Trilogy? In particular, That Hideous Strength? Consider me, Ransom's pessimistic friend, MacPhee, if only in the sense that I'm being skeptical with this movie. The more I see….the more….(don't kill me) …I miss Andrew Adamson and Disney….there ….I said it….and I never thought I would…. I'll reserve my final judgement until I see the movie (in 2D if I can…and I hope I'll have the option in the future movies).
The story is there. The acting is there. All the hope is there….but so are the changes….and changes to the main character…after two movies…..it would be like Christopher Nolan making a 1970's campy Adam West Batman for the end of his Dark Knight trilogy!
I hope that my fears will be denounced, trouced, and otherwise flim-flam bangled up!
All the best,
Mr. MacPhee
I'm sorry….when I said that this 'animatronic' Aslan feel like it belongs in Labyrinth….what I should have said is it feels more like Falcor in The Neverending Story….(I like both movies….but TNS is more dear to my childhood).
Tony Nixon said that Susan and Peter will not return to Narnia. I believe we'll understand what this scene means later. I'm not *very* worried about it.
That is definitely my hope. Dream sequence or something perhaps…
I have mixed feelings. Some shots looks great, okay, one in particular. (The shot of the invisible doorway on the Island of the Dufflepuds, it looks EXTRAORDINARY!)I feel like this one won't, and shouldn't be, as claustrophobic as the first two….very vast landscapes which is exciting. The mermaid looks like a gummy bear however, Reepicheep looks off, and so does Aslan at the end of the trailer. Does anyone else see what I'm seeing? I know there is still time to work on things but please, please be fixed! (I'm still excited, I'm just picky too 🙂
Guys, it focuses on Lucy becuase this is HER movie. It's HER final trip to Narnia, and that is important becuase she has had neverending faith in Aslan when all of the others give up on him.
I love the trailer, and I do agree that it's short, but it was still ten times better than the first. I can't wait till December!!
I actually don't agree with you on this being lucy's book/movie,
for me LWW was lucy and edmunds book. then PC was susan and peters, VDT was eustaces, SC was jill, MN was digorys, HB was shastas, then LB was everyones. but yeah it does have a lot of her in it.
What? It's Edmund's last trip to Narnia just as much as it is Lucy's. And he gained faith in Aslan ever since his transformation in LWW. It's Susan who begins to fall away because of lipstick and pantyhose…Edmund should have the biggest part of this movie since the last film barely gave him screen time.
oh its killing me, i really want to know why in the world peter and susan are in it. I don't know which trailer i like better. both are really good
Well, this is great!
Don't have time to put down ALL my thoughts, but here are a couple.
There is almost no Edmund or Eustace at all. Peter has more screen time than Eustace. This is bad.
I like Caspian's voice! Much better than the faked accent!
What is that little portal type thing?
And, overall, this is much closer to the VotDT I know and love… of course, minus Eustace. :$ But I like it!
Yeah i agree a bit more of eustace and edmund in this trailer would have been cool. but i think they aren' showing much of eustace so he is a total surprise, well sorta
Edmund better have a billion lines in this movie! Unlike in PC where he only had six lines and one scene with continuous dialogue.
you counted?
I am far more impressed with this trailer than the first! But i agree with many of you that the CGI still isn't looking too great, especially Aslan.
The whole lost souls line doesn't worry me too much I think it's when they're at the dark island ( he sounds kinda scared) and Caspian is just trying to comfort them.
The scene of Lucy and the book is fantastic and just makes me excited for the movie! I can't wait!!
I liked the trailer very much, better than the last. It seems darker to me, a bit more serious, in contrast to the childlike, cheery feeling the other one gave me.
I also like the more serious tone of the trailer. The first one felt too…fake or something. (Of course the CGI in this second one is still lacking, but that can be fixed) And I also think this trailer is better laid-out–the first one seemed choppy and didn't build up proper momentum. I like the dramatic music in this one (the choir chanting). The only problem is it's too short. I was just getting into it when it ended. Hopefully there will be a longer one out closer to the movie!
Why are Peter and Susan in this? Ughhhhh! other than that I loved it!
