NarniaWebbers will have to wait another few months to see Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. The movie adaptation from Greta Gerwig has been delayed to February 10, 2027 and will no longer be an IMAX exclusive.
The same press release also included a subtle casting announcement. Who will Ciarán Hinds be playing and does it suggest The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe will be set in roughly present day?
Netflix also shipped NarniaWeb a box of items to commemorate The Magician’s Nephew‘s 71st anniversary. It includes a keepsake suggesting the silver apple and a famous line will be in the movie, and also a note “from the desk of Greta Gerwig” on the impact of the book.

I just saw something on Instagram about how after the reveal of the main cast for the Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, a question that we kinda discussed on thread popped up in my head. In the book, Polly’s family is referenced but not mentioned fully enough to understand the family environment like “ how many siblings are there, are they boys or girls, are there any parents?….” and so forth. I saw when the news of Narnia came out officially on May 2, I saw some of the background cast like the confirmed Ava Jager (playing one of Polly’s sisters) congratulating other cast members that are age range as kids or pre-teens, who are Florrie May Wilkinson and Alex Munden, along with Beatrice Campbell who will be our Polly. A theory come to mind for me is what if Greta Gerwig is stationing the family dynamics similar that to her 2019 “ Little Women” film as if you look at these girls faces on their Instagram account that Ava Jager reminds me of Meg role, Alex Munden as Jo role( she reminds me of Sairse Ronan), Florrie May Wilkinson as Beth role, and Beatrice Campbell as Amy role. Why I come to this conclusion is that if any one who read or watch “Little Women” understood the dynamic between the sisters in the family environment and the Amy role often portrayed as the sister who was not taken seriously, which may be a possible reason for Polly ( who can be seen in the Amy role) to befriend Digory ( played by David McKenna) in the Magician Nephew. I feel in a Greta Gerwig’s perspective, her adding depth to Polly family dynamics as it is not really discussed thoroughly in the book make sense to why she would used the archetype presented in the sisters for Little Women here in this movie. I saw Impending Doom following some the casts i mentioned so that kinda proves some of my thinking. Also, if you check the Instagram post for Florrie May Wilkinson revealing her involvement in the film, it is evident she and the other three cast members are playing important roles within there dynamic as I pasted the below comment:

An example what I mean is if y’all watch the BBC “The Other Bennet Sister”, it basically looks on the perspective of the Mary Bennet, who is seen as the “non-interest” sister and expand on her perspective on her role in the family dynamics compared to in Pride and Prejudice, which focused on Elizabeth Bennet as noted.
I don’t mind the delay in the release if it means it doesn’t have to compete with Harry Potter and because they are giving The Magician’s Nephew a release in general theaters. Congratulations to Gerwig for winning this from Netflix!
(I am not used to 3D movies and I’m not sure I would get much out of an IMAX version. I got to go to The Hobbit movie in 3D but the difference in format was distracting for someone not used to it.)
Not all IMAX movies are 3D. Also, there has not been news that the new Narnia movie will be in 3D. There are two main reasons people like IMAX besides 3D. One is the large screen (and clearer sound). And the other is that, at some IMAXes, they can screen the movie from a film reel. (Christopher Nolan’s films are famously screened this way. Some sessions are film and some are digital.)
We can expect the Narnia film won’t be in 3D. However, we did get a 3D Narnia movie. Dawn Treader was in 3D for some sessions.
the move to next year is disappointing. however im glad it wont compete with Harry Potter & the Rings of Power which has a new season this november. Moviewise, there seems to be too much fantasy this year(Moana, the Odyssey, Death of Robin hood, Hunger games: Sunrise on the reaping, AND Masters of the Universe). next year, despite LotR and How to Train Your Dragon 2, next year is mostly Sci Fi and superhero movies. Narnia will be holding its own more if releasing in the coming year.
Also, is anyone else looking forward to Rings of Power, despite the Tolkien inaccuracies?
275 days to go!!!!

Why would the ‘Older Digory” have a higher billing than the Aunt or magician of Magician’s Neohew or Aslan. And Greta in all the different films she has spoken of/written/helped , I don’t recall her talking of a narrator. Neither would Frank get a higher billing than Aunt Letty especially when being played by 2 time Olivier winner Denise.
I can promise you, agents fight over name placement and so judging on the importance of each character and the hardware each has, I’m convinced there clearly is something we don’t fully understand about the casting, because the order is clearly important
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe will be set in roughly present day?//this is giving me the ick, I’m sorry.
