Prince Caspian

Will all the Narnia books be made into movies eventually?

We certainly hope so. Walden Media and Douglas Gresham would like to make all of the books into movies but each film will need to be successful before they can produce the next one. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is planned for Dec. 2010, and The Silver Chair would undoubtedly be next if the series continued.

How much did it cost to make this movie?

The general estimate is around $200 million, plus another $100 million for marketing.

How much money did this movie make?

According to BoxOfficeMojo, Prince Caspian made $55 million opening weekend, $141.6 million domestically (U.S.), and $419.6 million worldwide.

Why was Prince Caspian considered a box office failure? Didn't it make $200m over the budget?

Prince Caspian did indeed gross around $200 million over its production budget, but there are several other factors to consider. Firstly, the production budget of $200 million did not include what was spent on marketing, which was another $100 million for this film. Secondly, the studio gets approximately 60% of the box office numbers because of the theaters' 40% cut. In the end, the production only brought in about $250 million — $50 million short of their total budget. The DVD sales probably erased that deficit, but no solid numbers are available at this time.

Was 'Prince Caspian' filmed in New Zealand like the first film?

The production shot in New Zealand for 5 – 6 weeks and filmed a few scenes in Poland and Slovenia, but the bulk of the film was shot in the Czech Republic. Post-production took place in England. NarniaWebber ceppault has taken the time to make an extensive Google map that includes all the known locations at which Prince Caspian was filmed. You can check out his map here.

How old were the Pevensies and Caspian supposed to be in this movie?

The production stated that the Pevensies were supposed to be about a year and a half older in Prince Caspian than they were in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Therefore, Peter is about 16/17, Susan 15, Edmund 14, and Lucy 10. Caspian's age was derived from the line in the book which describes Peter seeing a boy (referring to Caspian) about his own age. Ben Barnes was cast as Caspian because he looked around the same age as Will Moseley.

Why didn't they do 'The Horse and His Boy'? Isn’t that the next book in the series?

When HarperCollins took over the publishing, it re-ordered the series chronologically, placing The Horse and His Boy as the third book in the series, directly after The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. But The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was actually the first book to be published. According to Douglas Gresham, they are making the films in "the most logically consistent order for filming." In this particular instance, they needed to film Prince Caspian immediately after The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to prevent the Pevensie actors from aging too much.

In what formats was 'Prince Caspian' released on DVD and Blu-ray?
