Daniel Craig in Talks for Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia’—Offered Role of Uncle Andrew?

A new report from Deadline states that Greta Gerwig has extended an offer to acclaimed actor Daniel Craig for a role in Netflix’s upcoming Chronicles of Narnia adaptation. While it remains unclear whether Craig will ultimately accept the offer, sources say that he is currently in consideration. What’s on Netflix is reporting that the role is for Uncle Andrew.
Deadline previously reported that pop artist Charli XCX was in talks for a role (their most recent report says it’s for Jadis), suggesting that the casting process is in full swing as Netflix gears up for a summer shoot date.
Craig, best known for his tenure as James Bond in the 007 franchise, has also played notable roles in Netflix’s Knives Out franchise and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
While Netflix has not confirmed which Narnia book they are adapting first, all signs point towards The Magician’s Nephew.
Do you think you Daniel Craig would make a good Uncle Andrew? Let us know below!
Whats On Netflix said that he would be play Uncle Andrew. Well we’ll see.
If there was any doubt about the acting experience or ability of Charli XCX, the same absolutely cannot be said of Daniel Craig! He is an absolute legend, and a top class pick, regardless of which role his in.
Whether its Bond, or Benoit Blanc in Knives Out, he is simply a terrific actor. Fantastic casting.
Maybe Aslan or Uncle Andrew
Honestly, whether Aslan or Uncle Andrew, he’d be perfect.
It would be…interesting if Daniel Craig and Charli XCX were in the same movie. 🙂
Never mind I Just listened to his voice and he’s definitely being Cast as Aslan
ASLAN!!!!!!!! I think he’ll make a great Aslan
Daniel Craig is a very good actor; versatile too. He can be quite funny. I can’t say I see him for Uncle Andrew, but at least he’s a legitimate actor. I suppose I should give up on my hopes of lesser knowns and fresh faces. This film seems to be going after big names, pop stars and James freaking Bond, to my surprise.
He’s way too big a Actor for Uncle Andrew, It Must Be Aslan
I was a little Worried when Charli XCX This Makes me feel better
I have a feeling that’s the next voice of Aslan we’re looking at… but could be the Cabby or the voice of Strawberry, lol.
I don’t suppose I’d mind Craig for Aslan. He has a rich voice. He might make the role his own, really lean into it. He’s proven in past roles that he likes to really fashion a cadence and accent for characters. Liam Neeson obviously has a majestic voice, but it seemed to me he never put too much effort into the role. Mostly seemed to just read the lines.
He Practices Psycho Physical and Meinser Acting and Classicaly Trained
Now we’re talking! This is the casting news we want to hear.
I hope DC is the voice of Aslan, fine choice. Uncle Andrew however should have a touch of comedy. Richard E. Grant or Hugh Laurie would be perfect.
Let’s go!! More of this please 🙂
Very encouraged to see some established acting talent attached… I was beginning to worry about this movie.
This is fantastic! I’m encouraged by this news – if Daniel Craig says yes to a role in Narnia, no matter who he were to play, I’m sure he’d do a great job. I could imagine him doing the voice of Aslan, or playing Uncle Andrew, but regardless of whether he takes up one of those roles or another role, I’m sure he’d do a wonderful job!
I like him for Aslan more than Uncle Andrew.
FOR NARNIAA!!! <3
Ooh not who I would have expected. I think he’s a great actor, I enjoyed his sinister role in Road To Perdition, but I can’t imagine him as Uncle Andrew.
I hope this is for Aslan. I’d love to see Peter Capaldi as Uncle Andrew.
I’m going to be the oddball out and say he’d make a better Uncle Andrew than Aslan. Regardless, he will bring great talent to the production!
I’ve got to say it never occurred to me that Daniel Craig could play Andrew. I always saw someone like Gary Oldman. But looking at him now, I’m imagining the banter between Digory and himself. It seems like it could work quite well. For Aslan we’re gonna need someone to top Liam Neesom.
To me, this is something I would not expect, because Daniel Craig’s past roles have been in very mature movies. Including his James Bond role, whose movies are much more gritty than past iterations of Bond movies.
The closest movie he’s been in that makes me think of Narnia is The Golden Compass. Which is weird, because the book that is based upon was apparently written by a man who disliked CS Lewis’ Narnia so much, that he wanted to write fantasy books with an anti-religion worldview. (That is 2nd/3rd hand information to me, so I don’t know the details.)
And The Golden Compass lost a lot of money for New Line, I’ve heard!
However, the best thing about him, besides being a skilled actor, is that he is British! It is hard to imagine American actors in Narnia. In the Walden trilogy, the only American actor I can think of is the voice of Maugrim. That was an American accent in Narnia which…. just, works. Since it was a gravelly voice and we can be like – OK, Narnia isn’t in England, it’s a separate world. But the origins were in England – kind of. (Where does the Top Cat come from?) But the first royalty were British. I am not sure if any small parts were American actors with British accents. Except for Douglas Gresham, I suppose! Hahaha.
If American actors are cast, they have to give a faultless British/Irish/Scottish/regional accent! No try-hard partial accents! 🙂 That is a bit of a purist part of me.
So yes, it’s good that Craig is British and that he’s talented. And his persona is not super-controversial, despite being in some very mature roles.
Any plan for casting Uncle Andrew that does not involve kidnapping Richard E Grant and tying him to a chair until he signs the contract is not to be countenanced.
Next casting news is The Children, Frank the cabdriver and his wife helen, Aunt Letty and Digory’s Mother. The voice roles want be Announced till post Production
NAMES BOND!!, JAMES BOND!!!!!!
I’m not sure who they are considering for Craig, but Hugh Laurie would be amazing as Uncle Andrew…
Who’s with me?!
We need a Different Bond For Aslan, Particularly Timothy Dalton
