Narnia Tops Easter Week DVD Charts

Positioned by the studio as an ideal Easter gift, Buena Vista Home Entertainment’s “The Chronicles of Narnia” remained the top-selling DVD for the second consecutive week, according to figures for the week ending April 16.

Sony Pictures’ “Fun With Dick and Jane” debuted a distant second on VideoScan’s First Alert DVD sales chart, moving fewer than half as many units its first week in stores as the Disney sophomore. “Fun With Dick and Jane” did, however, wrangle a first-place finish on Home Media Retailing’s video rental chart for the week, generating an estimated $7.2 million.

Universal Studios’ King Kong, meanwhile, is showing surprisingly long legs. Three weeks after its release, the film held steady at No. 3 on First Alert and slipped one notch to No. 2 on the rental chart, earning another $5.9 million to boost its total rental take to nearly $20 million.
