The First Dawn Treader Movie Poster

NarniaWebber ‘LucyP0104’ has just sent us a snapshot of the first The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader Movie Poster. The tagline reads: “Return to MAGIC, Return to HOPE, Return to NARNIA.” Notice the reflection of the Dawn Treader in Aslan’s eye.

Thanks LucyP0104! This photo was snapped at a Regal theater in Pennsylvania, if anyone has a similar shot, please send it in!

UPDATE: We have received the full-size hi-res image from the production. Here, for your viewing pleasure is the Return to Hope:

I'm with you. I mean, yay for a poster, but it gives nothing about the movie. Thank goodness I know what the movie is about, because if I had just seen than in the theatres, I would have walked right past it. Let's hope a better more detailed poster comes out soon and not this high school graphic design one that has shown up. Am I being too harsh?

  2. Mapthestars says:

OMG!!!! this is all really cool! I can't wait for the film!!!!!!!

  3. NextJillPole says:

I agree and disagree…… Aslan looked good in LWW, but He looked HORRIBLE in PC. I like how He looks in the pictures from VDT, though.

  4. aslan's my homeboy says:

The poster is gorgeous!! I am so excited now!

  5. aslan's my homeboy says:

wow that is so funny this morning I was thinking the same exact thing

  6. Cool Poster. Hopefully they'll have the kids and Caspian on future posters. I'm so excited. Seven months till the Voyage. It will be a fun ride!

  7. Lucy says:

    Lucy, too, I hope?

  8. Braden Woodburn says:

Oh hells yeah a better image! Cool beans! I'm sure when the trailer does get released, NarniaWeb will definetly inform us all ASAP!

  9. Arrrrgh says:

HOPE is the most overused word in fantasy films it's SO annoying. Two Lord of the Rings fan films "Born of Hope" and "Hope" taglines like "there is always hope" and "return to hope" it's driving me craaaaazy!!!

  10. Lylanarniafan says:

    I love it it's wonderful.
    But Aslan's eyes wasn't green ?

  11. jag says:

It is truely a beautiful poster… but it really isnt gonna catch your eye in the cinema… lets hope something more 'stand-out-ish' comes out aswell…. but yes its really good!

  12. Pinoynarnian says:

I agree with you, why Reepicheep is in the logo? the texts is over crowding, I think it would be better if only aslan, the tagline, and the logo are in there.

  13. LL says:

Let's get some Edmund/Caspian promotion too, please!!! LOL.

  14. fantasia_kitty says:

Eh, if Fox was mirroring LWW's marketing plan, we would have gotten the trailer today and the poster next month. 😉

  15. Lucy says:

    Lucy and Eustace, too!

  16. ShastaTheSecond says:

Though the poster is well-designed, I agree: If I didn't know what Narnia was about I would have walked right by. I think a picture of the ship would have been more appealing.

  17. Lady Galadriel says:

I love it being of Aslan himself!
So they are stepping up on the publicity now. Good. 🙂

  18. HL Pilgrim says:

I think C.S. Lewis would have reminded those of the Christian faith of the necessity of hope; this is one of the major themes of Narnia stories. It seems totally appropriate that the focus of this story is "hope". Ours is not a vain hope, but a hope in the reality of the sacrafice that Christ made for us and our chance at a "new life" through Him.

Lewis designed Aslan as a Christ-like figure and throughout the Chronicles, he provides the love and hope needed for the characters to fight evil, not only from the outside, but the evil that lurks within their own hearts. They are changed through him..and therein lies their hope…and ours.

  19. Omac the centaur says:

    haha HOPEfully. 🙂

  20. Anna's Sister says:

I completely agree with you GlumPuddle. Gorgeous graphics but not very attention grabbing. From far off people could probably mistake it for a African wildlife movie. lol

  21. Mr. Anderson says:

I love that it's Aslan-focused…And the Dawn Treader reflection is awesome. I like Reepicheep there because I like Reepicheep (probably the main reason they included him), but the text is totally pointless and meaningless. I suppose we can't really expect much better…most taglines for movies are pretty bad nowadays, but still, I would've liked something better. ^_^

But aside from the text, this is an awesome poster. This is the Teaser Poster. The one they release first that doesn't show very much before they release the action-packed Feature Poster. ^_^

  22. Mrulockia says:

It does sound like you're being a bit too harsh. High school design? I think it looks better than half the posters out there with all the characters crammed into one little space. Reepicheep standing on the logo is a bit strange though.

  23. eliseo says:

i really like the poster. i always felt that the other movie posters were too busy…trying to cram too much in it. this one is nice and simple. and having reep also was a good idea. if you only have aslan, it looks like some kind of safari movie to the average person.

  24. Narnia&The_North says:

Yes! It's great how Aslan is the focus! We definitely need more Aslan. 🙂

  25. Long Live King Skandar says:

I think maybe the people that made this poster remembered how leaving Aslan out of most of PC and making him just another talking animal instead of THE KING probably hurt its potential to leave a lasting impression. So maybe this time they decided to EMPHASIZE Aslan..since he's important. well duh of course he is.. lol

  26. Mirima Rosetrader says:

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! THAT IS SOOO COOL!!!!!

  27. LL says:

    Oh yes…them too…*winks*

  28. TumnusTheBrave says:

i think they made aslan look different

  29. Beren says:

I think, from far off, the brightness of the colour will make people see it (besides the fact that it's a huge LION staring them in the face). Then they'll see a little "something" in his eye, and get closer. Then they see the ship, and say, "Oooo, this looks interesting."

  30. Mark Sommer says:

The hi-res version is great! Love the Dawn Treader in Aslan's eye – and the fact they feature him!

  31. Anonymous says:

I'm actually a bit concerned at the message this poster is trying to send. Sure, Aslan is a very important part of this story, but the voyage is what it's about. I would have preferred it be a huge poster of the Dawn Treader rather than one of Aslan. Now, since Aslan is a Christ-like figure in the Narnia stories, it seems to me like they're going for that audience straight off the bat. While it's not necessarily a bad thing, it is a bad thing if the wonder of Aslan is "told" to the audience rather than discovered. Discovery and wonder (for me) are key themes in this book. It's not a book or movie about the glory of Christ.

  32. Lucy says:

Return to hope? My cat's name is Hope! Does this mean I'm allowed to bring her into the movie theater with me? LOL. just kidding.

  33. greenbird37 says:

I absolutely love it!! I love the way they did it with Aslan!

  34. Suborbital says:

Thank goodness they're not going with that awful Ben Barnes as Caspian again in the promos. this is more like it.

  35. Fire vein says:

    It's wonderful!! EEEPPP!!

  36. A bit overharsh, I think. It's not a real attention-getter, there are no stunning images or attractive guys on there, but it is quite Narnian. It's very simple, yes, but I doubt this will be the main poster used in advertising. It's just the start, and for a start it's not bad. IMO.

  37. It's simple but it says a lot… more poetic than the previous ones.

  38. Edmund-is-hot says:

This is amazing! Aslan looks cute, and beautiul! The way the Dawn Treader's reflected in his eye is just awesome. I am seeing it in 3D and that is final 😉 😛

  39. Griffle says:

Wow! Where do I get hold of one? I need one….NOW!

  40. Elf Maiden Archer of Rivendell says:

Great explanation HL Pilgrim! I think the poster's trying to say that Aslan's watching over the members of the Voyage of the Dawn Treader; that they are not alone, that they will succeed in the quest for the lost lords. No one can prevail without God who is "Hope", who give us sanctifying grace, and many others, to save us from spiritual & physical peril. I especially love how C.S. Lewis & J.R.R. Tolkien represent hope in their works. J.R.R.T.'s I think is more in depth, but less explicit. Lewis' is good also, but has not enough depth. He would be awesomer if he became a Catholic. Without J.R.R.T. ,C.S. Lewis would still be an atheist and there would be no Narnia. And without the Catholic Faith, Tolkien would have never written the Lord of the Rings, or the Silmarillion! Faith, Hope & Charity are the three theological virtues, meaning the ones that makes us greater people; because the closer we are to God , the better we are, happier, and less sad & full of doubt. So I hope you guys will now understand things better. Tolkien & Lewis wrote these pieces of art, so we could understand our Faith better, for they do reflect the beauty, wisdom, & history of the Catholic(Ancient & traditional Christianity) life, soul, and teachings of the Church. Anyways, I do hope the movie will turn out better than expected.

  41. Narnia-Fan1 says:

argh! Exactly while i am away for a few days this comes at that time! But I really like it! Especially the Dawn Treader in the eye of Aslan and the "Return to hope"!
    Great!

  42. AncientEgyptFan says:

This is wonderful! Aslan looks great! I really like the reflection of the Dawn Treader in Aslan's eye.

  43. snowstargirl says:

    Me too! This is wonderful!

  44. GoGoGo says:

    >>>HOPE is the most overused word in fantasy films it’s SO annoying. Two Lord of the Rings fan films "Born of Hope" and "Hope" taglines like "there is always hope" and "return to hope" it’s driving me craaaaazy!!!

Hey, don't blame that on Kate Madison and "Born of Hope"–she got there first! And the title directly relates to Aragorn's name in Rivendell, Estel, which means "hope." Since the movie is about Aragorn's parents, and the birth of Aragorn (and how he got the name "Estel"), it's completely appropriate, in my opinion. Oh, and the tagline for Born of Hope is: "A light in the darkness. A destiny born of hope."

  45. true-narnian_queen says:

    LOVE IT LOVE IT !!!!!!

  46. silverPhoenix says:

Although it's a bit plain, it's nice to finally see something. I love how the focus is on Aslan again and not on the characters.

  47. QStheG says:

I want to see Caspian,Edmund & Lucy together too))))))

  48. Hermitess of Narnia says:

I think they use the word 'hope' to let people know the movie isn't going to be depressing. It could be overused though, so hopefully the trailer will bring the theme through instead of them having to say it. I'm personally glad they have it because it shows they're not just trying to make an action film like they did with PC.
Aslan looks great in this poster, he doesn't look like the two previous exactly; if he looks this good throughout the Dawn Treader I'll be very happy.
Please remember to pray for the movie and the people working on it.

  49. Jessica says:

OMFG!!!! NOW I REALLY CAN'T WAIT ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  50. QueenLucy12 says:

    AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ITS SOOOOOOO COOL!!!!!!!

  51. always narnian says:

    O COOL! That's AWESOME!

  52. 220chrisTian says:

Part of me wishes it were just Aslan on the poster. At the same time, doesn’t it fit for them to appear together? Reepicheep enters Aslan’s country at the end of VDT!

I also like “return to magic, return to "hope." It IS a return after PC, which focused on restoring the magic Narnia had lost in LWW.

The ship: I think putting it reflectively in Aslan’s eye shows his omniscience [he's watching the ship the whole time] and some nostalgia.

  53. Julie Allen says:

the poster of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader looks nice & neat, awesome,
    amazing,& wonderful

  54. Lady Polly says:

Aslan is soooo beautiful, espeacially with the ship in his eye.

  55. KingSkandartheJust says:

Awesome but I think that the main poster will come out with the dawn treader and Ed, Lu, Eustace, Caspian, and Reep on it.

  56. ernesto says:

I like the new movie poster thank you very much and now have to wait until it's too soon the film of the Chronicles of Narnia the voyage of the Dawn Treader

  57. Alambil and Tarvis says:

Okay, this probably means the trailer is coming out with Shrek 4 next Friday…OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    *freaks out*

And I LOVE LOVE LOVE the ship reflected in Aslan's eye. BRILLIANT.

*passes out from EPIC EXCITEMENT overload*
