Simon Pegg Replaces Bill Nighy as the Voice of Reepicheep

Simon Pegg, the new voice for Reepicheep

NarniaWeb has learned from a production source that Bill Nighy has been dropped from The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and has been replaced by British actor Simon Pegg. Best known for his role as Scotty in the 2009 Star Trek film, Pegg has also appeared in Band of Brothers, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, and How to Lose Friends and Alienate People.

This is not the first time that a major character in the Narnia film franchise has been recast. Fans will remember that Brian Cox was originally set to voice Aslan, but in July 2005 he was replaced by Liam Neeson.

Yes wolfloversk, I have heard and seen Meerkat Manor. I love that show! 😀 And yes, they really should put Talking Meerkats in the Narnia movies. It would be cool!
Did you guys ever make made up charecters? Thank you for your comets! 🙂

  2. Narnian Meerkat says:

Ha, ha! Funny Omac the Centaur. You're awesome.

  3. Narnian Meerkat says:

Ha, ha! Okay, that's funny Puddleglum, but lets try not to be mean here, okay? Thank you! 🙂

  4. Narnian Meerkat says:

    YEAH!!!

  5. Narnian Meerkat says:

Ohhhhhhh. . .Okay. I never heard of that. You see, my sisters and I didn't know about Narniaweb.com until AFTER we saw The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Okay. I'm calm now. 🙂

  6. Narnian Meerkat says:

I agree Alambil and Tarva, Reep should have a shrill and piping voice. Like Bill Nighy's!!!

  7. Abren says:

I have no idea why they would replace his voice because repicheeps voice was perfect, but ive seen simon pegg in many movies including Star Trek 2009 in which he was amazing, so i have no doubt he will do a good job

  8. ArwinUndomiel says:

I Loved him in Star Trek, so maybe it isn't that bad of a change. But in the trailer it sounded like the other guy. So, what are they going to do? And what was wrong with the other guy???
Again though, I loved him in Star Trek, "I LIKE this ship. It's so exciting!" lol

  9. Narnian Meerkat says:

Oh, yeah. I definatly agree. 🙂

  10. aslan1980 says:

I always thought the first speech by Reepicheep was Eddie Izzard being reused from Prince Caspian and the second speech was Nighy. If you listen to the first line Lucy speaks it is rushed and not spoken clearly. By trying to speak with a cut glass english accent she runs the words into each other and it is just hard to understand. It sounds like they are still dubbing this film so maybe they should fix it.

  11. Timo says:

    he looks like a mouse.. That's a good thning I think? :p

  12. Fire Fairy says:

Who cares who does Reep, as long as it sounds like him? That's all that matters to me, is that he /sounds/ like Reepicheep!

  13. Teddy C says:

Amazing? That's a pretty loaded word to describe a good acting performance.

  14. Matthias of Redwall says:

    "Beam me up Scotty!"

"Captain, I'm givin it all she's got!"

  15. Puddleglum says:

No intent on mean. Simply being ready for the more emotional human response. As well as the Centaurs, fans, elves, etc.

  16. Puddleglum says:

Perhaps they would do well in tunnel fighting with the dwarves.

  17. JadistarkilleR says:

confusing indeed. so whose voice was that in the trailer? Simon Pegg's or Bill Nighy?

and why is it that they're not getting Eddie Izzard back?

oh and not that i doubt Pegg's caliber (he is such a great actor. hello Hot Fuzz?!?! :D) but if he's gonna start having Reep sound like Scotty i'm gonna laugh out loud so much whenever he talks the cinema people will throw me out.

  18. Luiz Alves says:

Funny how the news says he is best known by those movies, and I can only see him as Shaun from Shaun of the Dead and Tim Bisley from Spaced.

  19. Wyldeirishman says:

    Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!

  20. Sammie says:

I think Simon Pegg will do just fine as Reepicheep. The first time I ever saw Pegg was actually as a self-serving, corporate-like villain in "Doctor Who", and he did it so well I was surprised to read that he was actually known for comedy. He also has a nice enough narrative voice (see all of the "Doctor Who Confidentials" from the Eccleston season). I believe he'll be just as good as Izzard was.

I'm just glad they didn't, you know, recast Lucy or something.

  21. Warrior 4 Jesus says:

He is best known for the roles you mentioned but NarniaWeb is hardly going to encourage it's members (many of which are rather young) to watch movies/TV series with strong language – no matter how creative and well-written they are.

  22. Christopher says:

WOW! That's a great choice! (Little homage to the STAPLES commercial. Hee Hee.) But seriously, I am MUCH more comfortable with Simon Pegg voicing Reepicheep, than Bill Nighy. Simon's perfect! I thought he was absolutely adorable as BUCK THE WEASEL in ICE AGE: DAWN OF THE DINOSAURS. They're a lot the same, too! Buck was a charming, smooth-talking swashbuckler, just like Reepicheep! This is a wonderful, pleasant surprise! I'm very happy with this Reepicheep! Now…. set sail, Dawn Treader!

  23. tolkienlewisfan says:

WTF! Repicheep is suffering an identity crisis lol.

  24. tolkienlewisfan says:

just because you mention it does not mean your supporting it. Like if Heath Ledger was in a role for narnia (yes he's dead humor me) and they mentioned him playing in Brokeback Mountain it doesn't mean Narniaweb promotes same-sex relationships.

  25. NarniaFan says:

If Pegg did the voice in the trailer, it's spot-on with Reepicheep in Prince Caspian. The continuity is much better this way… Now if only they would have kept Caspian's accent, all would be good. 🙁

  26. Lanturn wast says:

Sweet niblits I love this guy, his accent is so cool I can't wait. 🙂

  27. HighQueenofNarnia says:

Okey-doke, I am officially completely confused! Reepicheep voice recast… twice! *looks to make sure that it isn't April 1st* Is this a joke? What in the name of fishballs is production trying to do?
Well, at least nobody else has been recast.

  28. Aslan's Meadow says:

    Funny!
But I really do think he sounds like he could work.

  29. Omac the centaur says:

    hm, does it work?

  30. Omac the centaur says:

yup. boy could i use some oats or a bag of sugar right now..

  31. Omac the centaur says:

and to you, my small friend. 🙂 (and in answer to your question yes i make many. including my name, the centaur.)

  32. Cynthia says:

kind of random to change voices to Bill Nighy and then drop him before he even records as Reep in a movie officially… but I think I like it. I was initially concerned that, although Bill Nighy is a great actor, his voice was too deep for Reep. Simon Pegg is a great choice in my opinion. a much better voice

  33. Narnian Meerkat says:

Ooooo! Tell me about your made up charecters oh mighty Omac! 🙂

I pretend that the Talking Meerkats didn't become talking at all until near the end of the Golden Age.
And, in the Horse and His Boy, their's this lone, gruffy looking Meerkat, named Mr. Gruffle. He's a Achenland desert Meerkat. Since Meerkats live in deserts, I pretend that Meerephy (when he was a pup) and his family used to live in the deserts of Archenland, but then they decided to move to Narnia. Soon after, alot of Meerkat families moved to Narnia, because they thought it would be nice their, and they would be closer to Aslan. 🙂
I'm sorry, am I talking too much for you? 🙂

  34. Narnian Meerkat says:

Oh, yes Puddleglum! That would be awesome and perfect! The Four Brave Meerkats (as whom I call them) would be perfect to do that because they are good at tunnels.
You guys are giving me good ideas. Thanks! 🙂

  35. Narnian Meerkat says:

Hey, Omac, we could pretend Meerephy and his three brothers are friends with your centaur. 🙂

  36. Narnian Meerkat says:

Okay. Just making sure that were all friends here and not enemies. 🙂

  37. Puddleglum says:

    Omac,
    What? Did you say something?

  38. Puddleglum says:

    Sugar with your oats?

    Do centaurs brush their teeth?

  39. Puddleglum says:

The real trouble in using wax, and cotten is when you want to remove it all without taking out your own ear wax.

  40. Omac the centaur says:

hm, I see. i might try that.

  41. Omac the centaur says:

    not in my time..

  42. Omac the centaur says:

haha no, there are a lot of squirrels near my house.. big talkers. 🙂 I suppose meerkats are the same way? anyway, sure. (a centaur would be far to polite to turn down a friend request.) 😉

  43. Omac the centaur says:

feldon: a griffin. fiddle glim: marsh wiggle. Morgwrath: minotaur. torshin: faun.—- these are the main creatures. 🙂

  44. Omac the centaur says:

oh, and a half Man half Merman. he looks like a man, but can swim just as good as a merman. or something like that. 😉 made a great spy during the reign of the telmarines.

  45. MurtaghLuv says:

i don't think reepicheep actually said anything when on then mast i think that was Coriakin, but then agian i might be wrong

  46. NarnianAllTheWay says:

Was he the voice of Reepicheep in the trailer? Or was that Bill Nighy?

  47. Orieus_Freak says:

Considering the entire cast in Star Trek was amazing, it's not that loaded. I think he'll do an amazing job as Reepicheep, as long as he doesn't sound too different =)

  48. ibart9 says:

oh geez. i pray it wasnt pegg's voice in the trailer. i cant stand "trailer Reepicheep"'s voice

  49. ibart9 says:

ok i went back and listened to Reep in the trailer, then to Pegg's Time interview. Trailer Reep's voice sounds a little bit too high & smooth to be MY REEPICHEEP. Pegg's voice is slightly lower and more gravely than Traler Reep, so unless they whipped out voice tweaks, I think it might be Nighy

  50. Omac the centaur says:

@Lutra's Pearl: How do you no?? Why would the duffer Be saying that? and Eustace Looked confused anyway. and it's his first time in narnia… haha i'd probably say the same thing!

  51. Narnian Meerkat says:

Oh, awesome! 😀 That griffin sounds cool. Feldon. . .like the name. My sister and I made up griffins too. Aryoch, who is the Leader of all Griffins who appears in LWW, and his brother, Aquilla, which means "Bird of Prey" I think.

It seems to me that you like to make up chareceters who are strong and bold. 🙂 Thats awesome. 😉 I mostly like making up charecters who are Talking Animals and mythical creature/animals.

And your half Man and half Merman sounds familar to what my sister and I made up. They're people, but water people. Kinda like Nyads, but not spirits.

  52. lysander says:

I don't understand why everyone is adverse to the idea of Reep's voice being high and squeaky. Lewis described it as "shrill and piping," aka, sort of like a real mouse's. Why everyone expects for him to have a deeper voice is lost on me.

I was really excited about having Bill Nighy in this role, but I can live with Pegg.

  53. Omac the centaur says:

Ya thats probably because they are all around the time of the telmarines, tho Omac was alive into the reign of king Rilian.

  54. asel15 says:

Ok, this is weird. Somehow sombinging like my 2 favorite things (star trek and narnia). I do think Simon Pegg is a much better choie than the other guy… just in my opinion .

  55. Countess Shamira says:

I sure am going to miss the actor who first voiced Reep.
Even if the newest one is supposed to be better.

  56. Haggith Tarkheena says:

Sure, I guess some meerkats are big talkers. . .:D

  57. MurtaghLuv says:

the way i came up with that it wasn't eustace is that Eustace's voice is deeper in the beginning part of the trailer, and the voice was high pitched, also it may be taken from a different part of the movie, who knows. and i didn't want to create a fight when i posted the first comment. we are all untitled to our own opions, and we'll just have to wait to see the finished product.

  58. MurtaghLuv says:

relieved! nighy didn't seem the right voice. but pegg might just be the runner up from izzard. so i'll just have to wait and see
