Narnia.com Gets a Makeover

The official website of the Chronicles of Narnia has received a small facelift.

The update displays a new header (featuring a more photo-realistic Aslan) and promotional material for their recent collaboration with The Royal Mint. This marks the first substantial update to the website since it’s relaunch in 2013.

Could this be an indication of things to come?

    Interesting that when you click on the list of news – whilst it still has the Netflix Press Release from October 2018 up there, the Matthew Aldrich press release from June 2019 is no longer there.

    Feels very telling, though oddly enough they’ve still got the even older “Joe Johnston to direct Silver Chair” story up there, so maybe just a coincidence that Matthew Aldrich got deleted

  2. The new picture of a lion on the header looks almost identical to the face of Aslan used on the 2010 Dawn Treader posters. I never liked it because it is a vastly different face than Aslan in Adamson’s movies. And it looks a bit haggard and thin. I guess they tried to make him look more wild. It reminds me of some old school animated Disney movies where the character’s face would change, sometimes mid-scene. A good example is Belle in the original Beauty and the Beast. If you look for it, she has about 3 different versions of her face from different animators. For Princess and the Frog, they had a boot camp retreat, to ensure they all knew how to animate Tiana’s face in a consistent way.

    @icurus

    I noted that while searching as well. But if you search with Google, you’re still able to find the Aldrich press release on the website so it hasn’t been fully deleted.

    Definitely an odd selection of news articles to include though!

    I had no idea it did! I wonder how long before any news of Joe Johnston directing SC is going to be removed! They should at least have the Greta Gerwig news (or anything updated about the upcoming project).

    Side note, does anyone else find it annoying that all (but one) of the book covers on the website is LWW? Show some love around to the other books!

    @Bolton, I hear you!

    I just realized it’s been a long time since we had a new edition of the books. I don’t know how long ago the last one came out, but it feels like it’s been about a decade.

  8. @Reepicheep775 , I think the last edition is the paperback books with the bold bright colouful covers including edited illustrations by Baynes on the cover (normally sold in a box set).
    I don’t like the design at all. I would hope they update them to a more aesthetically pleasing design, with a variety of locations and characters from the books, perhaps. You’re right- we need a new edition! Hopefully one that will be as classic as the 80s one with realistic people on the covers.

    @Jonathan Paravel: After doing some research, I remembered that there has been some more recent covers than the ones I was thinking about (including, I think, the one you mentioned… it’s hard to differentiate editions through text lol).

    The recent ones seem pretty… low effort? They look like they were quickly put together on photoshop. So instead I’ll say it’s been a while since we had a *good* new edition.

  10. @Reepicheep775, Yes I don’t like the editions I mentioned! 🙂 They are good until you notice the crude black sketches they’ve made Bayne’s illustrations into.
    Yes, it is indeed a while since we had a good new edition. I also hope they would update the art style – to be similar to Wingfeather, Land of Stories or Nevermoor covers. I really like those part cartoon designs.

    Pretty insignificant update but I’m sure they’re gearing up for more traffic in the coming years with Gerwig’s new movies. Hopefully we see new standardized editions of the books as well!
