Behind-the-Scenes Video: The Picture in the Bedroom

A new 10-minute behind-the-scenes video reveals how the filmmakers achieved the scene where Edmund, Lucy, and Eustace are drawn into Narnia through the picture in the bedroom.

It turns out they did not fill the room with water. Instead, they locked the camera down and sunk the entire set into the water… creating the illusion that the water was flooding out of the picture. Safety was a major concern of course; the actors all had to receive scuba lessons in order to film the scene.

Unfortunately the video cannot be viewed outside of the US πŸ™

  2. Not Of This World says:

Very interesting! (Watching the clip reminded me of how great of an actor Will is)

  3. glumPuddle says:

This scene didn't lift me out of my seat like the transition to Narnia in PC, but it was a decent scene.

  4. Fire Fairy says:

Awesome clip. I had already figured out how they did the bedroom scene by lowering it into the tank after watching the b-rolls, but it was still cool to watch. I really liked being able to see how they got all the water coming out of the picture and all that, and seeing the stuff in the big tank. It's really cool that they did it with the real actors and not stunt doubles. It seems like all of the Narnia films are like that, which gives them a much more real feel. Way to go to Georgie, Skandar and Will for being such troopers!

  5. vdt what says:

well I saw vdt and it was great i also read the book a couple of weeks before i saw it and its good. oh great scene by the way.though I felt it was rushed and Eustace earnd to be a boy but everything else was perfect

  6. the other Pevensie girl says:

I've seen the film three times (just saw it for the 3rd this evening! :D), and each time this scene takes my breath away (: way to go for Georgie, Will, and Skandar! that must have been a lot of work!

  7. Edmund's Queen says:

Wow. I never really thought of how much went into that scene. Great work on Will, Georgie, and Skandar's part. Skandar is hot underwater too! I wish I was Georgie; imagine getting to be around Skandie so much! It be like a dream!

  8. Edmund's Queen says:

LOL, it takes a lot to please you, glumpuddle, no offense. Are you the one who did those trailer analyses on You Tube? 'Cause you seem like a seious movie critic. πŸ™‚ Do you like Lord of the Rings?

  9. Lady_Liln says:

Love the fact that we're seeing bits of Eustace's lines, left on the cutting room floor. . . πŸ™ *sigh*

Interesting video, as a whole though. πŸ™‚

  10. Edmund's Queen says:

Yes, he's wonderful, but Skandar is Skandarific! Skantastic! He's my Skandie eye-candy! (Please pardon my fan nutiness; I just know Queen Elizabeth is going to reply saying "You need to take it down a notch" LOL)

  11. Sarah Peller says:

I can"t get it to play on my computer !!! That sucks !!!

  12. I know, right? Talk about annoying. That sounded really interesting. They did that transition scene so well, it would have been great to see exactly how they did it. I know the basics of it, though. I reckon it's really clever!

  13. Gem says:

This was one of the scenes that I thought they did perfectly in the film. Very cool, amazing effects.

  14. Big B. says:

I loved the ending, when they Disapeared in the Never ending wave, they swam up in the room, clothes dry and the water Disapears into the painting like water going into a drain

  15. stateofgreen says:

What Eustace lines on the cutting room floor? I didn't see anything that I didn't see in the movie, except how they did the special effects. This is am extremely cool 'making of' scene. It will probably be on the DVD. Plus I hope there are tons of cut scenes that if they put an extended cut together the movie will hopefully have more depth to it than the final product. But I won't hold my breath.

I applaud the three actors getting their diving certificates to go through the rigors of filming this to make it a great scene. I like this one better than the Prince Caspian entry into Narnia.

    Think outside the box! πŸ˜‰

  17. Duke says:

i'm so grateful i'm here in LA right now for my christmas vacation LOL. if im not here then im gonna be stuck in toronto where i can't view this sickkk video!

  19. elton says:

    this is amazing

  20. Aslan's Meadow says:

    I second that…cool!

  21. Pepper Darcy says:

scuba lessons? I would have hated that! But that is *so* cool how they did that! I thought it was brilliant filling the room with water instead of having them sucked into the picture (which would have been hard)… I guess the point was to just 'get' the picture to bring them to Narnia πŸ™‚ But, again, it was an amazing scene! πŸ™‚

  22. it's so epic!
wow, it's crazy what they had to go through to get that scene done!

  23. _Lilliandil_ says:

I think they did the entrance into Narnia excellently. I can't believe they did so well. It was different than the book but i don't mind, i think it was one of the best scenes of the movie. Very memorable and well done.

  24. Griffle says:

I've never really understood why Narniaweb keep on posting stuff not available for everyone to enjoy. I find that to be really unfair and annoying. I guess the mods just love to tease members living outside of the US.

  25. Michael says:

The scene was done very well but unfortunately I can't view the video. I'm not in the US.

  26. Princess Jennifer says:

Something bad with me is…….I can't swim. I would probably die right there !!! lol !!

  27. greenbird37 says:

This was so cool…always wondered how they did that! Awesome!

  28. Queen Elizabeth says:

HAHA! I love you Edmund's Queenb lol πŸ™‚ Here's a word for you Skanderlous! lol (that was not as good as Skandarific)

  29. Queen Elizabeth says:

I love this scene!! The only thing is though with the acting, they should have been more frantic and surprised. It's not like they knew the water was ever going to stop rising lol Will P. did great though once he got out of the water.

  30. Princess Jennifer says:

Yeah !! Will P. sounds like my younger brother !!! That probably is what he would say.

  31. Edmund's Queen says:

I absolutely love Skandarlous. There is actually a video of him on you tube called Skandarlous. I read in a recent comment you posted that you are a teenage Narnian fan? So am I! I'm sixteen and have been in love with Narnia ever since my mom read me the books when I was eight years old. I think we should start a fan club called NTC (Narnian Teens Club). I love you too, Queen Elizabeth, 'cause remember when I was so sad about not seeing Skandar and Georgie when they were here in America? You spoke words of comfort. THey really did help me. πŸ™‚

  32. Edmund's Queen says:

I absolutley love it when Will is screaming "Mother! MOther!" I was laughing so hard! He is very funny. I have a little tiny bit of experience in acting and let me tell you, doing it in water while trying to keep from hitting furniture and keeping above water would be very hard. Way to go you wonderful three musketeers!

  33. Queen Elizabeth says:

haha yea I'm pretty sure I've seen the Skandarlous video too lol. I spent a whole day looking up videos of him and interviews on YouTube. (I hope I don't sound like a stalker cause I'm really not) Way back when, I wanted to make Team Edmund t-shirts. But people thought I was odd lol πŸ™‚

  34. Queen Elizabeth says:

Will is so darn funny! I a laugh every time he says one of his funny remarks. The scene was less than a minute long on screen, it's so cool seeing them off screen. And Skandars little comment in the video was funny too πŸ™‚ I love watching behind the scenes footage.

  35. Now I can do that in *my* bedroom =D

  36. Bother Eustace says:

    I doubt it's done intentionally πŸ˜‰

  37. Hwin says:

I dislike that once again I can't do something because I'm non-American =P Oh well, I loved this scene in the movie, and I really liked the idea of the room filling up with water, and when they swim up to surface they find themsleves in Narnia!

I hope that they will have lots of special features when the movie comes out πŸ˜‰

  38. Hwin says:

Haha, if that were the case, then I could tell them 'Mission accomplished!!!'

  39. NonAmericaaan says:

I can't see it!! Just because I'm not an american >:(
Please someone, put another link which EVERYONE can see. Really America: there is more in the world than just America πŸ˜›

  40. Seriously it was like one of the best scenes they made! Now I feel like learning how to swim. XD

  41. Mina says:

Does anyone else find it weird that Eustace calls Alberta "mother?"

  42. Yerdif says:

Oh wow! So I'm not the only teen here, then? That's soo cool! I'm 18, so can I join? I've been a Narnia fan since I read the books back when I was 12, I think.

  43. Pepper Darcy says:

but then again, it'd be hard to explain that Alberta is his mother if he's calling her 'Alberta'– at least in a movie it's a little hard to explain tactfully, unlike books which is easier to explain stuff like that. They might have dumped it simply becasue they couldn't find a graceful way of explaining? πŸ™‚ And people who haven't read the books might find it odd that Eustace is calling his mum 'Alberta' πŸ™‚

Just a guess though πŸ™‚ I always thought it was *super* weird that Eustace called his mother 'Alberta' πŸ™‚

  44. That's really unfair. Hulu made the decision. And they said you have to live in the US. Other websites do the same thing sometimes. BBC and ITV always say that I can't watch their stuff because I don't live in the UK! Don't blame NarniaWeb!

  45. Twinimage says:

The one thing I HATE about these behind the scene footage videos is how everyone has to explain the plot summary and narrate what happens in the scene we're watching. I KNOW what the movies about. And I KNOW that it's important to get the scene right and to look real. That's a no brainer! Total waste of the first 3 minutes.
Aside from that, cool video. Cool to see how they did that scene. Smart idea of lowering and submerging the room in water, rather than filling it with water.

  46. yeswelovenarnia says:

I live in the US and I was able to view it.

  47. yeswelovenarnia says:

I LOVED this!! When I was watching the movie I wanted to know how they did that scene. It was the one scene I thought they did awesome with following the book! It was great to see how they actually filmed it!

  48. yeswelovenarnia says:

Oh never mind…read that wrong…I hope you can view it somehow!

  49. jill pole says:

I live in holland and I can't see it..
is it not posible to make of it a youtube film?
    or not?

  50. wait, liberty! u did this? WOW! i am impressed!

  51. Queen Elizabeth says:

Of course you can Yerdif! (I think Edmund's Queen is the President and I am the vice President) (idk something like that πŸ™‚

    Members thus far:

    Edmund's Queen – 16
    Queen Elizabeth – 15
    Yerdif – 18

  52. Princess Jennifer says:

To Edmond"s Queen : What do you mean when you are talking about Musketeers ? Sorry, I missed it . Could you pass that by me one more time, sorry.

To Queen Elizabeth : I Love watching footage behind the scenes too !!! It kind of tells me what the character is like. I have something real sad. I am near tears, I am actually only 12 years old. Everything else about me is true though. Sorry. I would still like to be your friend. I just said I was older so you would like me. Sorry.

  53. Princess Jennifer says:

Darn it !!! I"m 12 !!!! One more year and I would be a teen !!!! Ah Well, Enjoy the club !!

  54. Braden Woodburn says:

Ahhh man you got to love the advancements of technology, green screens, and blue screens. I think it is amazing how they pull this stuff off! I’ve always thought the way they got to Narnia was exciting. Well, in The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe they just practically walked into a wardrobe and they were there. Interesting, not that exciting. In Pricne Caspian, they’re standing in the train station and everything ends up breaking apart going in the direction of the train at a fast pace. Now that was rather awesome. In this one Voyage of the Dawn Treader, seeing a painting that starts to move, pour loads of water out, fill the entire room, sucks the children under, and then to be in Narnia, THATS EPIC! This part gave me chills once Lucy was like β€œEdmund the painting!” cause I was like β€œoooo get ready to be trasported backkkk!” =P

I want to join!!! Im 14 (well actually still 13 for another one and a half months)!! Great idea really! Can I be treasurer?? LOL

  56. narnian resident says:

i could only imagine how much work all of that must have been, for the crew and the actors. and very well done. that scene is one of the highlights, and one of my personal favorite. its extremely impressive how they did it.

  57. Dancinginrain says:

    I'm 13! I looove Skandar! Can I be a member?

  58. Princess Jennifer says:

Darn it !!!! I"m the youngest here !!! Probably the youngest on NarniaWeb !!! Well, I can join in Sept. Sigh………………
