Comingsoon.net Confirms Dawn Treader Will Be in 3D

As an update to our story earlier today, Comingsoon.net contacted their sources and confirmed that a decision has been made and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader will be released in 3D.

Earlier today, a rumor started circulating the internet that 20th Century Fox will release The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader in 3D this December. ComingSoon.net has confirmed through our source that it is indeed the case.

It will be a 3D-filled holiday season, which kicks-off with DreamWorks Animation’s Megamind on Nov. 5. Disney will then release the Rapunzel film Tangled in 3D on Nov. 12, followed a week later by Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 on Nov. 19. The other 3D release scheduled for December is Disney’s Tron Legacy on the 17th, right in between “Narnia” and “Travels.”

As far as I’m concerned, there’s really no bad news here. 3D movies have been making an immense amount of money compared to what they would have made if they had only been released in 2D, even considering that this particular movie will now cost an approximately $12mil more to make now (assuming the run time is about 2 hours). The Voyage of the Dawn Treader was shot without being planned as a 3D movie, so it’s not going to be all about the special effects. And for those of you out there that really don’t like 3D movies, nobody is forcing you to go see it in 3D; there will still be a 2D version released as well.

Because it will bring in more money. I hope not to come of as rude (I really don't intend to), but why so picky? Some people DO like 3D.

  2. Beruna says:

You have said the first thing among these comments that has made sense to me considering why 3D should not be in the VotDT all day! About the visual effects….
But hey- when has it ever been easy to make a blockbusster this huge? 😀

  3. Beruna says:

Let's say I'm not a camera person… AT ALL. But that is awesome! Good news, too, I guess.

  4. Beruna says:

    Totally!

  5. Beruna says:

While you might feel that way, truth is, what the filmmakers are doing trying to attract other people (while I'm not completely sure if 3D is the best move) is probably okay. Not everybody is like most of us- all the friends I have who like Narnia like it because of PRINCE CASPIAN's action.
Now, it's probably just where I live and the certain people I know, but that must show you SOMETHING about the general audience.
I just hope the movie is faithful to the book.

lol! haha….me too! I watched the first one last weekend….now I feel like I need to watch the next two just to complete the quest in my head. 😀

  7. whoa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that was VERY sciency/techy…… but i think i understood wat u sed……..

  8. ok… i hope no 1 else sed this cuz all the comments were tl;dr [2 long, so i didnt read] but i dont rlly mind if they turn the movie 2 3D so long as they dont cut out a scene 2 compensate 4 the time it takes 2 switch 2 3D….. in fact…. i dont mind wat they do so long as the dont pull a "Series of Unfortunate Events" and try 2 put more than 1 book into movie….. they seriously murdered the story by doing that!!!!! they had stuff from the 1st and 13th book in the same movie as well as stuff from in between and, if i remember rite, added stuff on the end that never happened!!!! it was AWFUL!!!!!! poor lemony snicket…. or wat ever his rl name is…. the movie ppl ruined ur marvelous books… not 2 sound freaky i hope [ i posted this @ like 2 am……]

I am SO excited I love that my b-day is just a day after the moive is in theaters!!!! But I think I am going to see it in 2d though, maybe I will be able to go again to see it in 3d???!!!!!! 🙂

  10. NarniaLuver4Ever says:

I'm happy about this only because it will probably make more money this way. 3D is the new thing and everybody wants to see as many of them as possible-even if they wouldn't "normally" be interested in it. All and all I think that this is a good thing for the franchise and I will probably go see it both ways.

  11. NarnianElf says:

Haha, I'm the same way! When I first saw them, I watched one each night for 3 nights. It was horrible when we finished the 2nd one and Gollum goes "She could do it!" It drove me crazy!

  12. NarnianElf says:

    My opinion too.

  13. NarnianElf says:

You have to sign up on Avatar.com. I would've done it, but it required an email address and I don't have my own email yet. I could've used my parents, but I'd rather not go giving it out 😀

  14. NarnianElf says:

WOW that was a huge comment 😀

im kinda iffy about this. for one i want to see it regularly, and for another i want to see it in 3d. but they release it on the same day, which means i will probably have to go a 2 times. which when you think about it that's not all that bad!

  17. narniafan4ever ♥ says:

lol! I'm glad Im not the only one! haha! 😀

  18. Cynthia says:

This just like made my month!!!! I'm sooo excited! I usually don't like 3D movies because they are full of cheap 3D tricks, but I doubt they will do that to VDT… I will definitely see this movie in both 2D and 3D like a million times!!!!!

  19. Cynthia says:

    my sentiments exactly.

  20. lucy12 says:

only 254 days, 3 hours and 28 minutes to go, *sigh*

  21. Omac the centaur says:

oh, ok. i prob. wont do it then. thanks!

  22. Chloe says:

Although, this is really great in helping with the money factor, do we really want to see Narnia in 3D? I think it will take away some of the magic from the first two movies, like things won't be as beautiful and the details won't be as great to look at. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I'm just considering the fact that it won't really be the Narnia that we know and love.

  23. TheScribblingScribe says:

Really? Yay! That makes me feel wayy better 🙂

  24. TheScribblingScribe says:

    Exactly how I feel.

  25. lucy12 says:

yeah when I first heard about it i was wondering what would be so 3d about it? like they said it wasn't flimed for 3D, so with that how would it be any good??? But I hope with 3d they get more money though. 🙂

  26. Bennie says:

I think it's amazing in 3D, but I wanna see them both !!

  27. ibart9 says:

3D sounds good and it probably should make more money, but im not sure they didnt cut anything good because it didnt work well or was too hard to do in 3D. Im just a little scared.

  28. Omac the centaur says:

woe hadn't thought about that! scawy O.O

  29. Puddleglum says:

I think I will just wait to see it in 2D. that way I avoid the sea-sickness, and not take the chance of missing edited out.
One suggestion to all. Do not buy the first DVD that comes out. It usually does not contain as many special features, like deleted scenes.

  30. Omac the centaur says:

yeah i learned that the hard way 🙁

  31. Omac the centaur says:

NarnianElf, i came across one of ur comments that said u were from Lothlorien. is that in Narnia?

  32. Haha thanks and yeah I just hope it does not look really cheesy Haha anyway goo Narnia

  33. BoumtjeBoumtje says:

If the movie was not planned and shot in 3D, then the 3D version after the fact will not be worth seeing. They added the 3D effects only after the mega-success of Avatar.

Word on the skreet is the 3D version of Clash of the Titans which was not planned or shot in 3D, and had 3D effects put in afterward is god awful. Apparently they did a terrible job added the effects post-production.

Dawn Treader I fear will have a similar outcome.

  34. Jeremy says:

I really wish this was an April Fool's joke. Regardless I really hope they will learn from rush job of Clash of The Titans, and realize the potential pitfalls of converting films to 3d.

  35. ashleigh Burgess says:

I do not think the film should be in 3D. I will not watch it if it is in 3D nor will my family members.I think it will be a great movie! but I just do not want to see it in 3D.I LOVE the cronicals of narnia!Just not in 3d.But I will probely still love it.
    Ashleigh age:8

  36. aslandaughter says:

I'll probably see it both ways. I love 3D movies and think Voyage of Dawn Treader would look great as long as the effects aren't cheesy since they were added after the fact. My husband likes 3D too so I'm not disappointed.

  37. NarnianElf: Hey Thanks! I am really glad you like it! 🙂 I am sorry for not posting but I just got back from an eight day trip. 🙂

I am a HUGE lord of the rings fan too. 🙂

  38. narniafan says:

    NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

  39. MIrha says:

    OOOHHH…………… That is not possible…!!!
    my NARNIAaaa………!!! >.<

  40. I think it would be neat…but…it is kinda nicer in 2D because you don't jump when thins come out at you. 🙂

  41. Hey I like your name! 🙂 It is neat. 🙂

  42. QueenLucy12 says:

    good to know!

  43. NarnianElf says:

Eight day trip? As in vacation? I love vacation!! Especially the beach *sigh* 😀

I had a ton of fun reading all of your posts on your blog – hobbitts are so great!!

  44. NarnianElf says:

No, it's in Middle Earth. Where Galadriel lives 😀 I don't actually live there of course but I wish I did!

  45. NarnianElf says:

    WOW, thanks for the info!

  46. QueenLucy12 says:

I havent seen the movie Amazing Grace but I heard that it was really good!

  47. NarnianElf says:

Yeah, I thought it was quite good although somewhat confusing. Takes several times to fully grasp, in my opinion 😀

  48. Jill Pole says:

    How do YOU NOOOOOOOOOOO???????????
You never know. It could turn out to be just FANTASTIC!!!
    So . . . Just wait.

  49. Jill Pole says:

Don't start the screaming . . . yet. Wether from Joy or terror.

  50. Jill Pole says:

That's what I thought at first, guys, but . . . erkay, enough comments, Jill! I'm just quite impatient myself, if I do speak honestly. =)

  51. Jill Pole says:

Yeah, my sister saw that movie, I'll have to ask about the grapjhics. That can't happen to our Narnia.

  52. Jill Pole says:

    Ditto to first part. =)

  53. QueenAravis14 says:

I think the movie in 3d will be great!

  54. Omac the centaur says:

ah, lord of the rings. i have actually never read of seen them 🙁 but want two first chance i get. 🙂

  55. *GRINS* I love the beach too but we went to Williamsburg and Tennesse. 🙂 Thank you so much! 🙂 I am really glad you like it…I used to do just recipse on an old blog but I thought this would be more fun! 🙂

  56. NarnianElf says:

Very entertaining. I laughed so hard about all that you were doing in Hobbitton. Also, Gimli was quite hilarious 😀

  57. NarnianElf says:

You won't be disappointed when you see them! They are some of the only movies that can really make me emotional every time I see them, they're that good. It's kinda embarrassing though. 😀

  58. Hehe…I am very VERY happy you enjoy them. 🙂 I am glad you liked Gimli! 🙂

  59. NarnianElf says:

The way you portrayed him was great. Legolas was cool too 😉

  60. NarnianElf says:

Really?? Well I guess that a Marshwiggle does have good advice, every now and then 😀
