Douglas Gresham in January Issue of Guideposts

A very emotionally moving article has appeared in the January issue of Guideposts Magazine, in which Douglas Gresham talks about his relationship with C.S. Lewis.  In the article, Gresham goes through his memories of meeting Jack, his relationship with him through his school years, and the times he and Jack spent together after his mother (Joy Davidman) passed away.  The article also talks about Gresham’s job as head of the Lewis estate, and mentions some of the “changes” that people have wanted to make to the series over the  years.  You can read the article online, and in its entirety, by clicking here.

Many thanks go out to Urnus for the head’s up!

Yes! Lord, bless him a thousand times as cheesy as that sounds!! This man is certainly a godly man filled with the Holy Spirit. It's so nice when I read something by him, if anyone knows what I mean. When I read something by him, I feel so calm and happy.

  3. Wow, C.S. Lewis was so amazing! We are very lucky to have somebody who knew him so well making sure that Narnia is what it shoud be. If only people listened to Mr. Gresham more! (AHEM… Andrew Adamson!) But that was a very beautiful and touching article.

Aww, what a beautiful story! I wish I could have known C.S. Lewis the way Douglas Gresham did…

Reindeer go-go girls? Good lord! Thank heavens Mr. Gresham said NO to that one!

And I will say this, after reading something THAT bad, I'm soooo never, ever, EVER feeling even remotely guilty to the changes to Narnia I make in my AU fanfictions because, believe you me, I've never written anything so bad as an "Enchanted Cheese-burger" into one of my Narnia-based stories! That's just plain SAD!

What an amazing story! I was a huge C.S. Lewis fan before I read that. Now I'm an even bigger C.S. Lewis fan.

Jack really is very very special! In a great way! I've been in his house in Oxford and it was amazing! He even gave money to others when he had not enough himself! God blessed him so much and blesses Mr. Gresham!

    Very touching article.
God bless Douglas Gresham and C.S. Lewis's memory.
He has given so much joy to so many people over the years (myself but one of these people).
The current films are a great tribute to Lewis's mythology.

*sniffs* Wow, thanks so much for sharing this Urnus!

Discovering Narnia and other Lewis works began in me a Christian "renaissance" of sorts back in high school, and his humble apologetic approach continues to bless me. If ever a man could awaken one's fascination and need for God through pure imagination, he could. You can tell he knew and loved God; he lived his life for Him. What a joy to hear from a man who had a close relationship with Lewis.

  11. What an excellent, heart-felt article. Thanks for posting it.

I love everything Douglas Greasham says. I soaked up hi biography about Jack, and this short article is so well-written and enjoyable to read. It gives me a nice picture of Greasham's relationship with Jack and fills in the holes for me. I love Jack and Greshams' perspective on children, it is so needed.

"Perhaps what I loved most about him was how much he loved my mother."
This is so true. Often times, love for someone comes from watching them love someone else. How revealing.

  17. StarAsterisk says:

Oh my goodness I know! Don't we all… That would be so amazing. I'm glad he left us his writings though, at least we get to know a part of him!

  18. StarAsterisk says:

I know exactly what you mean! It's make me feel so much better… Like wraping up in a warm blanket and sipping coffee. I love watching him being interviewed and his book, "Jack's Life" was so nice to read!

My mother said that 35 years ago, she and her friends were talking about how wonderful it would be if we could all sit down and talk to Mr.Lewis, ask his questions, perhaps even get him to tell us stories! She told me this after i relayed this exact wish to her of my own.I started reading the Chronicles at age9 and still do at age 40.

Awesome article. I have seen a few interviews with Doug and he alwasy talks so highly of the man we all look up too. I would love to sit down to a cup of coffee with him and just let him tell me stories of C.S. Lewis. No other talking, just stories. That would be amazing.
