‘Voyage’ 3D Blu-ray Releases May 24

Since The Voyage of the Dawn Treader was converted to 3D for its theatrical release, some fans were surprised it was not initially released as a 3D Blu-ray Disc. For whatever reason, Fox chose to wait a month and a half. According to Blu-ray.com, The Dawn Treader 3DBD releases tomorrow (Tuesday May 24).

Sony will be including Dawn Treader in a 3D Starter Pack.

If anyone is able to view this, please send us a review!

    Weird . . .

  2. Fire Fairy says:

Interesting. I guess it would be kind of cool, but it's only good if you already have a 3D TV and a 3D BluRay player. So for those of us who don't have either one…

  3. Zanthia says:

While I have a blu-ray player with 3D capability, I do not have a 3D tv so – meh. Also not that big of a fan of the whole 3D thing, saw the movie in the theater both as 3D and 2D and it was just as enjoyable in both aspects.

  4. Arvan says:

Practically no one has a 3D TV right now, because they almost double the TV price.

  5. Hiking Peter says:

Yeah, I don't have either, but I was just as excited to get the reg. dvd. So let the people who have that kind of cash buy that stuff, but I'm just going to be thankful I have at least the movie itself.

  6. I won't be able to watch VDT in 3D because I don't have a 3D blu-ray player, just a regular one, the same with the T.V., and I already have the movie on regular blu-ray, so the 3D thing doesn't really apply to me, oh well whatever I never really cared for 3D anyway, I'm fine with just 2D.

  7. Aslan's #1 fan says:

    Thats nice… CAN WE PLEASE HAVE SOME NEWS ABOUT the Magicians Nephew??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ;}

  8. Aslan's BFF says:

I had hoped when I saw the email from NarniaWeb that there would be some news on MN. Gosh I was disappointed. I mean I haven't heard anything new except "anything to do with the VDT DVD". (sigh) I'll just sit back with my fingers crossed.

  9. Jillhope says:

hm… well, at least it's some news… Interesting, I think so I suppose only a certain ammount of people would actually be able to watch it at a time… If you only get a certain amount of 3D glasses.

  10. Skilletdude says:

3D TV is still an impractical technology right now and this won't sell very well, especially since most of the tech advanced people interested in VDT already bought the Blu-ray and won't likely fork out anymore cash for it. Besides, everybody I heard from had said the 3D effects weren't too spectacular anyway.

Now, if this story was about a future extended DVD release of the film, then I might have been more interested. ;]

  11. Mark Sommer says:

It looks like you can only purchase the movie as part of the bundle with the Sony glasses. $189.99 I wonder if it is going to be just available as part of this deal, or if it will be offered separately in the future. I looked on amazon.com, and they do not have the Blu-ray 3-D disc listed separately.

  12. DamselJillPole says:

I don't know why but i always found this 3D home stuff pointless.

  13. DamselJillPole says:

I agree! I want some MN news as well!

  14. Nathan says:

To view the 3D version you need to be 3 things:
    a. a rich person
    b. a rich person
    c. a person who is rich

oooh!!!!!!!Why didn't this come out before?!!!!!!!

I would like to thank writers such as C.S. Lewis and Stephine Meyer for the inspiration for my many different adventure stories.
So I would like some opinions before I make my final decision…So please vote-who would you choose/who's better?

A childhood friend you've known your whole life died 3 years ago and but has been alive for the past 3 years as a vampire

Patience, padawan. The first DVD player was $700.

I remember when visual effects were starting to get really big in the late 90s and there was a group of people saying “CGI is just a silly gimmick!" The truth is that CGI is a tool to be used. It can be used as a gimmick (Star Wars prequels, Transformers) or it can be used to help tell a story (Inception, Lord of the Rings).

The same is true for 3D. It doesn't have to be a gimmick….but sadly, at the moment, it often is. I never go see a 3D movie unless it was conceived as 3D from the ground up and shot with 3D cameras.

  17. glumPuddle says:

I'm annoyed with the 3D craze too. But, I have been pretty impressed with the 3D HDTVs I have seen. Stuff that was shot in 3D looks good. But either way, the technology is still pretty new. Some early Blu-ray players had 5-10 minute load times…and often wouldn't play the movie at all after all that waiting.

  18. Fireflower says:

I think I will just stick with the 2-D.;)

  19. Fireflower says:

OK, I think that is just a little bit to scary so neither!

  20. PuddleCheep says:

I don't have a 3D Blu-ray TV and I don't know if our family Blu-ray player will play it. Grrr! Why can't they make 3D DVDs anymore. I'd buy VDT again in 3D if it was a DVD.

  21. 3d, no thanks. Blue ray 2d is fine with me!

  22. Seiko says:

Maybe they haven't said anything about Magician's Nephew because they've returned to the versus table Round on doing it or Silver Chair again. Whichever they do they are both the next best two in the series after LWW and DT but it would be nice to hear something else official.

  23. aussie_lucy says:

That's cool! I just wish we had known a bit sooner.

Will the 3D Blu-Ray be released in Australia?

  24. dr. radharani says:

LG came with new FPR technology in 3d tv glasses. the price of the glasses are low however it is not my cup of tea.:)

  25. zinat says:

yup! not only you my family too can't afford a 3d tv. 2d is best to me. I will prefer to visit 3d movie hall. Actually, this market is for elite people only.

  26. Reepicheep says:

What?! Now I'm confused. First they say MN is officialy the next film and now they're saying SC could still be made instead?! I don't get it.

  27. Reepicheep says:

Meh, the 3D wasn't that great for VDT. It's high time we heard something new about MN (or whatever the next film will be according to Aslan's Country)

  28. I have some rich friends who once invited me over to watch a movie on their 3D TV. I'll admit I was impressed. The picture had excellent quality and wasn't at all blurry… when you got a turn at the glasses. There were 4 pairs between about 20 people. So yeah, 3D TVs will probably be a lot better when the glasses come down in price.

  29. reepicheep's_fangirl says:

    GAH! THAT'S AWESOME! I totally want it…
Too bad i only have a regular Blu-Ray player 🙁

  30. Not Of This World says:

So it won't work on a regular flatscreen?

  31. Not Of This World says:

Nice interveiw. I do wish they would decide already.

  32. Matt Taylor says:

Some people on here might like this >>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kb_lTQyWlE&feature=channel_video_title 🙂

    Narnia theme on guitar.

And also waiting for some news on MN!!!

  33. Much too expensive. Looking at this makes me feel like I could get a Blu-Ray player at Dollar Store.

  34. Movie Aristotle says:

I was expecting something like this. Specifically I was expecting an extended edition to be released two months after the regular DVD so that Fox could get die hard fans to pay twice and boost revenue. This is much the same thing, except that fewer fans will be interested in a 3D version of the film than would be interested in a special edition. Perhaps an extended cut is still on the way?

Note: Alice in Wonderland's 3D release was a few months after the regular DVD release as well, so I'm not sure that Fox is doing anything out of the ordinary.

  35. emijoy says:

I really haven't caught on to this 3-D fad with 3D TV's and DSi's. Most 3D movies aren't worth the extra money and, of course, the annoying 3D glasses! But, who knows? Maybe ten years from now, they will be worth the money!

  36. emijoy says:

They're still only talking about the next film? I'd have thought they would be working on the script by now! I wonder if they are having legal issues?

Interesting interview. I found it interesting that Flaherty cited PC darkness for its disapointing preformance, but did not give a reason for VDT's unimpressive box-office totals.

  37. narnian21 says:

If they're worried about dark films i'm scared for the silver chair and the last battle… If they stay true to the books they shouldn't have a problem

  38. icarus says:

Ironically, despite my initial scepticism many months ago when the whole 3D conversion of VDT was first announced, i do actually now own a 3D TV. It honestly wasn't that much more expensive than a regular flat-screen TV of equivalent size. In fact, it was almost £500 cheaper than my first flat-screen TV i bought many years ago, which was about £1200. I don't have a 3D blu-ray player yet, but the TV does do a really neat on-the-fly 3D conversion process on any 2D content which is really smart.

That said, i still won't be buying VDT on 3D – i haven't yet managed to make it through a repeat sitting of VDT on regular DVD yet. My embarrassment at the movie's sheer awfulness usually forces me to turn the movie off after 10 or so minutes, and thus i have no desire to witness the shame in 3 dimensions just yet.

    I'm totally getting this!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  40. claireyy says:

oh. i didn't there was a blu ray 3D player. do a lot of people have one?

  41. Hiking Peter says:

I think they should do sc next, then do mn. the money for mn will most definitely keep till then!

  42. Narnia #1 Fan says:

    I agree, it is a bit odd…

  43. Narnia #1 Fan says:

Pretty cool. 🙂 Of coure I have already bought the plain bluray. And also, why can't they make a normal dvd 3D? Cause i don't have a bluray player in my room, but we have one downstairs, but my younger siblings can't see it. Maybe they will come out with ne later on.
