Ramandu’s Daughter Given a Name – Lilliandil

We were contacted by someone within the production who shared a few tidbits of information with us regarding the character of Ramandu’s Daughter.

First, the lovely actress who was the stand-in for the character of Ramandu’s Daughter is Stefania Duncan; 21 year old model and actress from Queensland Australia. Her profile can be seen on StarNow.com here.

Second, the character has been given a name for this movie: Lilliandil. Tirian can confirm this name from The Voyage of the Dawn Treader footage he saw a few months ago. He also mentioned that Douglas Gresham was the one who created this name. Very pretty!

First comment! But the story is cool too 🙂

  2. Liberty Hoffman says:

cool! the name is nice! 🙂

  3. narnian1 says:

    I like the name! 🙂
I always wished CS Lewis gave her a name in the book

  4. Angela says:

Didn't she play Dahlia in "Legend of the Seeker" episode "Eternity"?
She is awesome! Can't wait for the movie!! Suspense is killing me! =)

  5. DragonGirl says:

I'll admit, Lilliandil IS a nice name, but to be honest, I was kinda hoping they wouldn't give Ramandu's Daughter a name. It just adds to the myseriousness of her character…

  6. yeswelovenarnia says:

AWESOME!!! 🙂 I love the name! I always hated it that Lewis didn't give her a name and so I made one up but I like this one better 🙂

  7. GlimGlum says:

I think it is appropriate that she have a name and that Douglas Gresham was the one to give it. 🙂 Sail on VDT and Lilliandil!

  8. fantasia_kitty says:

Laura Brent, who actually plays Lilliandil, was in the LotS role, yes. Not to be confused with Stefania Duncan shown above. Stefania is the stand-in for Lilliandil. Clear as mud? LOL 😉

  9. Aravis Narnia says:

Interesting. Sounds like a good name for an elf in LOTR. Or an elf anywhere. But it does fit in with her star nature. Glad they gave her a name. Wonder how canon this will be from now on.

  10. Narnia-Fan1 says:

like that name, and also, that doug gresham gave her the name.
Can't wait for the movie! And the trailer!!!

  11. Reepicheep775 says:

I've they were going to give her a name, I'm glad Douglas Gresham picked. I would actually prefer she go without a name, but Lilliandil sounds nice.

  12. Lucy says:

Oh my gosh! At first I was like, "What? A name? Ramandu's daughter? Are they nuts?" But then I saw the name and was like, "hey, that could work.." Reason? Lilliandil looks a little bit, to me, like her son's name, "Rilian" (At least the first part).

  13. MissAravis says:

Interesting. I might not have liked it so much if Gresham hadn't came up with it, haha.

  14. Lady_Liln says:

Not a huge fan of having named her, but I was expecting them to. I do like the name. At least it's not "Star Girl." 😉

  15. Zoe says:

    Beautiful!!!

  16. I actually like that name. And I know some people thought it would be better if they left her nameless, but… Well, I think it would be awkward if everyone just called her "Ramandu's Daughter" the whole time. I think that's one of those things that doesn't work as well on-screen as it does in a book. And I'm glad Douglas Gresham came up with it; Lilliandil is a very nice name. It seems just a teensy-bit Tolkeinesque to me, like Elvish or something, but I can live with it. I'm happy about this!

  17. Lillyput90 says:

Lilliandil, I can only suppose that this is to half explain where the name Rilian comes from. I mean didn't you always wonder why after ten Caspians there was suddenly a Rilian. It is echoing the name Elendil a bit though, getting into a Numenorian area here.

  18. Ah, Elendil! I knew it was reminding me of something Tolkein-ish, I just couldn't place my finger on it.

  19. Starlily says:

I've been expecting news like this, and I'm okay with it. I mean, I don't mind Ramandu's daughter being nameless in the book–she didn't really need one. But in a movie it's only appropriate for her to have a name. I just wish C. S. Lewis had named her first. However, I'm glad Douglas Gresham was the one who came up with it.
And most of all, I like it. 🙂 I mean, it could have been a lot worse (Starlight, Celeste, Ramanda 😉 ). I think it's a pretty name, not too fancy and not too plain. All in all, I approve. 😀

  20. It's okay with me.

  21. MurtaghLuv says:

Lilliandil…I like it. I always hated how she didn't have a name. Stefanie is beautiful too.

  22. Braden Woodburn says:

What a lovely name. And she is really beautiful!

  23. QueenLucy12 says:

    thats a pretty name!!!!

  24. SDG says:

It wouldn't be half bad, if the name "Lillian" didn't jump out of it. It's just Lillian + the "dil" suffix from a thousand Middle Earth characters (Eärendil, Elendil, Valandil and countless others including Bombadil) as well as eldil and Maleldil. I don't mind the dil suffix, but a more creative base than an obvious everyday name would have been nice.

  25. wolfloversk says:

Oh hurray, I was hoping that they'd name her… Its perfect, too! 🙂

  26. CEP Paul T says:

Ooooh. "Star Girl." You just had to go there. I was resisting. Glad you beat me to it.

Ramandu's daughter has a great name!

  27. Luis Daniel says:

    cool!!!!!!!!!

  28. Karnia says:

It's a good name for a fictitious character, but I know if it was my name I wouldn't like it lol

  29. KingofKings'Daughter says:

If C.S. Lewis' son made the name up…it's fine with me. In fact, it's very beautiful. Finally RD has a name…for the film that is.

  30. Sir Jack says:

I liked her more without a name, that made her more mysterious. and I think thats, what Jack intended, when he din't pick a name for her.

And I don't think I realy like that Name. It sonds so like Lilli! and thats in my oppinion a realy un starish Name.. but I don't think any name would fit to the "Daughter of Ramadu" I imagen…

But I didn't now C.S.Lewis, and as Douglas Greesham picked the name, I belive I can't complain, and say I'd now better, what Lewis would have thought of it.

  31. Lucy P. says:

    Modern/elvish. It's fine with me I guess.

  32. LadyCourage says:

    A NAME!? Oh noooo…. *cry*

Oh well, at least it's a nice name.

  33. narniafan4ever ♥ says:

love the name! ;D reminds me of the elves in LoTR

  34. twinimage says:

Hmm, well, I'm surprised they gave her a name.
But I shouldn't be that surprised I guess. They gave the Pevensie's mother a name in LWW.
Not sure how I feel about it. It's as good a name as any for a fantasy film. Seeing this isn't "bad" news, I'm happy with it.

  35. iLiveInNarnia says:

    Sounds elvish..

  36. -centaur- says:

Well, this is interesting. I'm glad Gresham gave her the name, I wouldn't like it so much if The producers got together and thought up a name off the top of their heads.
Lilliandil is a good name. But perhaps the fact that she is not referred to as Ramandu's daughter supports the theory that there is no Ramandu? Have we seen any conclusive evidence of him yet?

  37. marianne says:

Wait, what? Why wouldn't there be Ramandu? Has something suggested so?

And I don't mind she has a name now. Ramandu has a name and he's still mysterious to me.

  38. narnianprofessor says:

It sounds a bit like a manipulation of 'alambil'……..kind of. 🙂

  39. Believer says:

Oh my! It sounds perfect – almost Elvish. And how fitting that Mr. Gresham invented it! Lilliandil. So much better than anything I have ever thought of!

  40. ShastaTheSecond says:

Nice name! And I think it's spectacular that Doug himself got to name her.

  41. ShastaTheSecond says:

I just hope critics won't say, "It sounds like a JRR Tolkien name."

  42. NarniaHannah says:

Rillian and Lilliandil. they DO sound similar!

  43. skilletfreak says:

yes! i agreed with liberty, it is a nice name.

  44. pselpevensie says:

yay! i'm glad they won't have to keep reffering to her as "ranandu's daughter" like they do in the book.

  45. NarniaHannah says:

yes! she finally has a name! It's always bugged me that Jack never gave her a name. 🙁 Lilliandil. It does sound somewhat Elvish as people were saying above. But at least she has a name. I made a name up for her, and I think I like mine a little better, but that's probably because I made it up. but hey! that means I can use the name I made for her somewhere else!
I also like how Douglas Gresham named her.
All in all, I kinda like the name, even though it does sound a little Tolkien-ish.

  46. kaymich12 says:

    i love that name!its so pretty..i think it sounds like a star's daughter/queen's name

  47. Kris says:

Hmmm…I'm actually not too sure I like that name…I agree with SDG a few posts ago. Just a normal boring name "Lilian" with "dil" at the end of it. It reminds me of old ladies and pickles lol. Its not too bad though, I'm sure I will like it in the actual movie. I don't want to badmouth anything, I'm still super excited! And I do like the idea of naming her for the movie. It would be dificult not to.

  48. Kris says:

Oh yeah, and no offense to anyone named Lilian!

  49. Kris says:

    er…Lillian with 2 L's lol sorry.

  50. Tarwe, the Narnian Elf says:

Caspian and Lilliandil… (Hey, I can spell it! ;-)) I like it. I'm glad Douglas Gresham thought of the name; it seems fitting! I agree that it does sound Elvish, but I always pictured Ramandu and his daughter being Elf-like!

  51. Tarwe, the Narnian Elf says:

I think Lilliandil sounds a lot better than Prunaprismia! 😉

  52. Eustace says:

Lilliandil, won't you get tongue tied saying that name? I am not saying it's not pretty but it will be confusing to say.

  53. HighQueen_Of_LanternWaste says:

    Very true!

  54. HighQueen_Of_LanternWaste says:

I expected they would name her, and I don't mind the name at all, it's rather pretty. It is only appropriate they would, considering it is a movie and not a book.

And true about it being similar to Rilian, it could easily explain where his name came from.

  55. Eden says:

Oooh! Awesome! I wasn't sure at first when I saw the headline, but now I think it's a really pretty name and a well fitting one too. 🙂
It reminds me of the Elvish names in the LOTR series.

The only thing I'm curious about is how it's pronounced. Anybody have any ideas?

  56. Silver the Wanderer says:

I had a feeling they would do this, and I'm glad Douglas Gresham was the one to come up with it! Lilliandil…hmm, sort of a mouthful to say, but I think it'll grow on me.

So how is everyone pronouncing it? Lilly-AN-dil or Lil-LEE-an-dil?

  57. Lady Em says:

I'm right there with you. I keep going back and forth on it, actually. But mostly… I think it would've been nice *not* to have her named. Obviously that's what Lewis himself wanted.

  58. Lady Em says:

It sure does sound like an elf name! As soon as I saw her name, I had thoughts of Eragon, Arya, Islanzadi, etc. =P
