The Mysterious Little Girl Goes Overboard

Over the past two days we’ve seen pictures of a mysterious little girl aboard the Dawn Treader.

Tamara has posted what might be the most intriguing video we’ve seen from the filming of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader yet. In it is the mysterious little girl and a man we are quite sure is Rhince. Based on the video, we believe this to be “Gael” whom we first heard whispers about a couple months ago through a casting call. Apparently she sees her mother off in the distance and throws herself overboard with Rhince right behind her. Check it out here.

Who is the mysterious little girl? Join the discussion.

Thanks to Tamara for the video and narnialover101 for pointing it out to us!MLG jumping

Aye! The qusetion is, "Is this really nessessary?"

  2. Lissi says:

Ummm I do not like this at all! This is really going to bug me…

  3. ellz_bellz says:

    I DON'T LIKE THIS!!!!

  4. Shy Galadriel says:

I think that really makes sense… If she was a slave, she would be really desperate to get back to her mom. Also, the damage could have come from freeing the slaves like you said… I think that makes sense…
    PS. SHE'S SO CUTE!!!

  5. Shy Galadriel says:

WHOA!!!!! Did anyone else hear Rince yell "Elaine!"? Did they?????

  6. Eden says:

What… is …. this? Interesting, VERY interesting, but why is it in the movie?? I am so deathly curious right now, I'm glad I'm not a cat. XD

I am very confused about why a little girl would be on the Dawn Treader in the first place… I mean, it was a Voyage to go after the 7 Lords that Miraz did away with… So, what is happening with the MLG?

  7. insaneandluvingit says:

I HOPES THEY USE IT! it looks really good! i like. Good luck Mysterious Little Gael!

  8. ~Lava~ says:

It seems like she is related to the guy who goes in after her. He says a name (possibly Elaine) before the girl yells Momma and jumps.

  9. daughter of the King says:

    MLG. Perfect glumPuddle!

  10. ~Lava~ says:

He does say "Elaine" and then Lucy says "Gael" after they jump. Perhaps this is on the Lone Islands. Perhaps they are Lord Bern's people, this could even tie in with the slave trade scene.

  11. Prince Norin says:

Agreed, Glumpuddle… I wasn't completely distraught by some of the changes in Prince Caspian because they kept true to the theme, though I was still a little disappointed. And besides, friends, look at everything that it seems the movie has been doing right. You're getting too upset over minor details.

I'm beginning to think more and more that this scene has to do something with slaves.

  12. Lucy&Reepicheep says:

confusing, and maybe gael is rhince's daughter or something bu it just doesn't make sense

  13. decarus says:

I disagree that they were true to the themes in PC. They messed too much with Aslan's deity as well as Susan's motivation. I am very forgiving of changes in details, but Prince Caspian went too far.

  14. K. J. Hill says:

    Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. fnafa4ever says:

I totally agree! It's so interesting to see how the roles have switched…

  16. JadistarkilleR says:

agreed. more twists than a soda pop bottle lol!

the thing is "Gael" has been around since the start of the DT shoot, so this character figures early in the story. i couldnt recall if the little girl was there during the times when they shot the Edmund/Lucy/Eustace rescue, but she has been spotted several times throughout, nearly in all scenes we've witnessed via Tamara's video coverage. it is also of note that she is in "Narnian" clothing. if she is a slave rescuee, wouldnt she look more roughed up than that? or that she would've been spotted at The Spit?

obviously this kid represents some kind of subplot added into VDT. adding subplots to the main plot isnt unusual. it adds for more layers to the story and can easily be eliminated if there arent enough screentime to explore it. my one concern is that VDT is one of the more complicated stories that doesnt really need a subplot, in fact it has so much going on i wouldnt be surprised if they skipped/ merged a few adventures together.

  17. Sara says:

I agree!! that's how I felt when I first saw this video. Georgie looks like Susan ,a big sister's role ,and this little girl looks like Lucy in LWW.

  18. Ok this is just a question , but I've been hearing that after 3 day thaey are going back to the goldcoast to finish up filming. Now is that meaning that they will be done in australia and then go to mexico?

  19. JadistarkilleR says:

you mean they're just gonna let that little girl drown? lol! i dont think so. they're gonna try to rescue her or something's gonna happen where they will be unable to save her.

*gasp* or is that the purpose of MLG? she figures early in the story and is quite adorable. what if she's designed to capture the hearts and sympathies of the viewers then at one point kill her off? it keeps the main characters safe and true to the book, and yet the film makers has the tool to add more drama/ suspense to the story. heck it worked for Boromir (of course that was actually true to the book 😉 )

  20. BradenWoodburn says:

I love whenever Georgie shouts out.
    🙂
She makes Lucy seem so caring.

  21. Lucy the Valiant says:

that is so cool!!! I love how Georgie just stands there like she is oblivious!!

  22. Mark Sommer says:

There is no shooting planned for Mexico. That was abandoned long ago. Everything is being filmed in Australia.

  23. Fandango says:

… We need to keep this in perspective. This is a Narnia fan site, MLG appears to be Narnian, therefore … I'm now officially a fan! What a cutie – we should embrace this little one in true Narnian fashion. I trust the the Director and Producers on this one… Go 'Gael'!!

  24. Starlily says:

I'm betting that the water isn't that deep. Why else would she and Rhince leap overboard without thinking about it? I really doubt they'd kill off a little girl. But then again, you never know…

  25. Lucille Brown says:

Or maybe the railing is damaged by the storm, maybe they place the storm somewhere else.

  26. Starlily says:

That sounds like a good theory. I'm just so afraid things will end out worse than we imagined in the movie. I could live with your theory coming true, Lillyput90, but what if they do something even further from the book? :0 I think we should expect the worse, and then put a good face on it. I know…I'm such a Puddleglum! 🙂

  27. Eden says:

Hmm, that's an interesting thought! Could be true… Who knows what this scene is about!

  28. daughter of the King says:

Lillyput90, the Dawn Treader doesn't have cannons.

  29. rilian4evr says:

just a random thought…but maybe it has to do with when their sailing through that place where dreams come true, and the little gael's mother is dead or something, and she sees her in a dream. idk probably not, but its just a thought.
btw-what is she doing on dt anyways?

  30. Bother Eustace says:

MLG works for me… I've just been calling her 8-9 forever, MLG has a nicer ring. ha ha!

  31. Bother Eustace says:

Yes, I heard him call out a name too… sounded like "Elaine" or something…

  32. Oh. I did't know. OK^^.

  33. AAAAAHHHHHH!!!! Girl overboard! But I am gald to see Georgie behind her… I am wondering if this "Gael" is a slave girl that Caspian and the Pevensies rescued form Narrowhaven…..

  34. Last King of Narnia says:

I agree Jadis. The story of VDT is a long and very episodic one and it has been seen in several interviews that the producers want to try and merge some of it for the purposes of filming. My bet is that Gael is a daughter or relative of one of the 7 Narnian Lords. But I could be wrong…hmmm
    ~Further up and Further in~

  35. Lucy says:

I wonder who is that girl in the purple dress?

  36. narniafan4ever says:

    I agree, decarus.

  37. narniafan4ever says:

Edmund and Lucy are looking great! They have both grown so much! It makes me feel old…lol

  38. mm1991 says:

I don't think I want to watch this move anymore. =p

  39. Bother Eustace says:

That thought actually occured to me for a split second… especially because Rhince just sort of sits there and watches while MLG trots off the ship, and then finally he jumps in. Seems like he's confused about something; he didn't even try to grab her.
However, I'm more inclined to believe this scene has something to do with the slave trade on the Lone Islands. Who knows at this point? Let's wait and see.

  40. edmund rox says:

ok, what is with the little girl? And what's minotaurs- excuuuse me!(Wouldn't they eat more than a regular man?!?!?!Hello! rationings! Sheesh). If they ruin this movie like Prince Caspian, I think I am giving up on the movies altogether!

  41. edmund rox says:

    what's with the minotaurs*

  42. edmund rox says:

Wow! someone who actually wants a movie that is based on the book to be LIKE the book! Are you crazy?!?!? HAHA jk. I totally agree! What's the point of making it if you're going to change everything? Sheesh people! Get it right for once! I am going to read VODT again before I go to see it!

  43. Serenia says:

    That was my thought, too.

  44. always narnian says:

I agree with all those who are becoming somewhat skeptical of this movie. Whoever this girl is, she wasn't in the book. For one thing, I DON'T trust the directors and the producers anymore after what they did to Prince Caspian. I don't even trust Douglas Gresham anymore. If you love a book and want to make a movie after it, why would you want to change it? It's not your right. Love the book, make it a good movie. Follow it! It's C.S. Lewis' book, not yours. Wouldn't he have wanted it the way he wrote it? If not, then why did he write it the way he did? They take too much liberty and disappoint the fans because we want the books! Keep your own ideas and make you're own movie. If you make another's book into a movie, respect that person and do it. That's my opinion. Some of you make excuses and just want to like it because you say it's NARNIA and you want to like it. But I can't love a Narnia that's not the real Narnia…I want C.S. Lewis' charming, innocent, wonderful , and enchanting world. Keep your modern, lousy, changed, teen movie to yourself. Sorry, but it must be said. Also…I want the allegorical Narnia. The one that portrays Aslan as the one true King, Jesus Christ. That's what made the stories so important to me.

  45. lucy says:

    I can't find a pic of Edmund 🙁

  46. A_Narnian_Ship says:

I'm pretty sure its a dwarf sword…maybe even trumkin's old sword!!!

  47. InLoveWithAslan says:

It sounded like Gael (Yes, pronounced as Gail) was calling to someone who might have been in the sea drowning, maybe. Did Ben call out the name Elaine? It's almost a little muffled.

  48. aslan,edmund(K)(L) says:

    What were they shouting

  49. Kris says:

Yes I couldn't quite tell what he was saying, but it sounds pretty clear that the little girl is yelling "mama!" before she jumps in.

  50. Kris says:

Yes. I turned it up. He is shouting "ELAIN!" and she is shouting "MOMMY!" (only it sounds more like "momay" with her accent 😉 thats what tripped me up at first.

  51. Kris says:

He was shouting "Elain!" and she was shouting "mommy!" At least that sounded pretty clear when I turned the volume up

  52. Kris says:

Rillian I had the same thought! Like that may be Rince's daughter and they are calling out to her mother. It even occured to me vaguely that the little girl may not even be real, just part of the dreams. Far fetched I know, but it would still be possible 🙂

  53. decarus says:

Edmund is in a lot of these photos. Look again.

  54. Lillyput90 says:

Further developements suggest that a good part of my theory is wrong, so that's a blow. The bit about attacking the slave ship could still be valid and about her mother, but really with her in the Eustace Dragon scene, it messes up everything. I'm thinking crew member's daughter now, and a big story change, sigh.

  55. Narnia&Th_North says:

Hmmm, that's an interesting idea about her maybe being a rescued slave. That might work nicely. Just so long as they don't stray too far from the book!

  56. King Skandar the Just says:

That was Awesome! It was definitely not in the book but, it makes it interesting!
The MLG is so adorable! Georgie is still awesome but definitely not as small and cute!

  57. pselpevensie says:

who's this "gael" person??? there are only 2 girls in VDT, and that's lucy and ramandu's daughter.

  58. edmund rox says:

Amen sister! I don't remember who said it on here, but I totally agree. They said that once they get to the last battle people are really going to believe puzzle is Aslan! And i agree totally. If they can;t get an allegory right… how will they ever get a movie based off the Bible right?

  59. Lucy&Reepicheep says:

    she probally is
