They know exactly how many fans there are. How do they know? Box office. VDT's performance suggests that PC and or Apted's handling of this installment have lost fans for for the film series.

  2. Anhun says:

I think it's a spoiler thing. There are TONS of reactions on the forum under the spoiler section "I've seen the movie and it was . . ."

  3. Narnian says:

They must get enough money for the silver chair!

  4. nic says:

Prince Caspian had a very un-Narnian dvd video cover & very generic look in general. Not at all a reflection of the film & it's great cinematography & scenes. Without anything else, if they'd just put a shot of the meeting at the dancing Lawn(i think it is) with Caspian and the animals it would have been lots better – i'd say!

  5. Queen Elizabeth says:

To many people mistake the Narnia films as "childrens" movies. And think that Harry Potter is more "grown up". (Even though HP kind of sucked for the box office) Anywho, Narnia is way more than just a childish tale, people need to see that.

I try to pretend it doesn't exist as compared to the other six it is so shoddily written and does so much to damage the franchise that I just shake my head and wonder what happened. LWW, PC, Voyage, Horse and His Boy are all wonderful adventures, but the Last Battle is just an oddity.

  7. Bob says:

I am of two minds with this film. I really am grateful it was made. I think all three films are well worth watching. I think this film was always going to be 'small'. It was directed small, it was filmed more intimately. I enjoyed it. I am glad it was made because in many ways it rounded off where my enjoyment of the series ended, save for Horse and His Boy.

If SC isn't made, I'll be glad at least the trilogy was made. I was hoping it'd survive until HHB but if we have to make do with three Narnia films, I'm glad it was these three.

  8. Independent Lucy says:

Yeah your right. I just don"t like snotty kids

  9. Independent Lucy says:

    Your right too. Sorry.

    Gem,
I know everyone is looking forward to HHB and MN on the big screen but I'm not sure they can make them. I remember reading a review that one of the crew members (can't remember who) routed them because they don't have any of the main characters from the current films. They wouldn't really relate to these ones. 🙁 I'm sad about that but as long as they make SC and LB I'm fine! I am glad that people believe that it will happen as I do! 🙂 Keep your hopes up! For Narnia! And for Aslan!!!

  11. Bob says:

I love Narnia, and I don't watch it expecting anything other than good entertainment. If I want allegory, I'll read the bible. I find things like this almost an affront to spreading the Word, so I have to try and turn that aspect off and enjoy it for the good storytelling it is.

I deeply enjoyed the first film. Mildly enjoyed the second film. Again really enjoyed the third film. It was a return to hope and magic for Narnia and in a clever way, Michael Apted ended the film in a way that would wrap up a trilogy if no more movies are made, which would be a shame.

Realistically, it doesn't look like Silver Chair has much chance of being made. I'm saddened for that, but grateful for the miracle of VDT seeing the light of day! I hope the dvd/blu-ray sales give it more wind in its sales. Pun intended.

  12. Independent Lucy says:

What if they were looking for a girl to play as Jill Pole !!!! I would LOVE to play as her !!! Or Polly Plummer !!!! I have dark brown hair, I am 13 years old, and I am a good actor. What are you like ?

  13. Independent Lucy says:

Totally, But when kids say words like "Doodle" or "Anywho" no infense…… It makes the movies look bad. Sorry, but you might want to watch what you say.

  14. yeo15 says:

wow. thank you for this very encouraging post bcoz I almost lose hope for the SC movie.
you're right! if this movie franchise is one way of God to reach out for the unbelievers then let's expect for the 7th movie!!! GO NARNIANS!!!

  15. Tauriel says:

Actually, out of the remaining books (SC, HHB, MN and LB), I think HHB would be easiest to translate to a film. It has a fairly straightforward plot, which is not episodic like VDT (that's why there had to be so many changes to its plot), but rather has a good beginning, a nice build-up and even an action-packed third act. I think, film-wise, it could be much better than SC – the story is more "cinematic", if you know what I mean. 😉

  16. It's because people don't appreciate the subtlety and beauty of a nice classic story anymore; I think I'm the only fan in Chicago now. I know I am in my grade, everyone thinks I'm stupid for liking it so much. Some boy thinks it's "so 2005". Jerk.

  17. Anhun says:

@nic, you have a good point about PC looking generic, but I think it's more than the marketing and the DVD cover. When LWW came out, it was uniquely Narnian. It didn't look or feel quite like anything anybody had ever seen before, even earlier versions of LWW. PC on the other hand, didn't have nearly as much of that "bright Narnian magic" feel to it. The scenes that did were very few and far between. I enjoyed the PC movie (I have it on DVD), but I have to admit that it kind of felt like LOTR's tagalong teeny-bopper cousin. People who went expecting to return to the Narnia they came to love in LWW were bitterly disappointed. That, IMO, is why the film had no legs at the box office, and why DVD sales were so bad. I also think disappointment in PC may be a factor in VDT's poor performance.

  18. Princess Lucy says:

don't worry Swordebrithil12 …its soo sad classics are being ignored nowadays…and they are usually the best stories so yh totally agree with you hehehe….and I am sure theres hidden people that love it soo much and yet they hide it lol…I am a bit like that actually…the only place I express it is on here..narniaweb hehehe…I bet when they get older..they will regret it especially if their kids love it soo much 🙂

  19. Anhun says:

@Tauriel, I completely agree what you're saying about HHB and SC. I think they could give both of those books the same treatment as LWW (keep the plot and characters, with some trimming and embellishment of specific scenes) and you would end up with interesting, coherent movies. SC would, however, be much harder to market because it's SO dark.

Oooh! Speaking of embellishments, wouldn't it be amazing if we got to see the escape of the Splendour Hyaline? It happens off page in the book, but I think it would be really exciting on screen.

  20. nic says:

    Hi Anhun
I've always found PC to have that Narnian magical feel, from when first seeing it alot over it's cinema run. But i didn't really get the whole story of it until i had it on dvd. I do think that the last battle extension with the underground thing & then skirmish wasn't needed, as had already had really cool types of battles in PC and the tress to come were great & worthy of more screen time.

But I also love the paradise lost tone in PC, whether from Miraz's POV for the Telmarines weary 'how many more must die for the throne!', to the BIG one of Peter having gone sour in respect of no longer having the 'authority' to do good being a champion of Narnia as he did in the Golden Age of Narnia's high Kings & Queens. He isn't at the point of Miraz for that sort of thing, but having him, Caspian and Miraz all becoming stuck abit in a similar bog really gives the film some depth when the magic starts to happen to all their individual plot arcs. It also resonates great with Lucy & Aslan, & the White Witch with Peter & Caspian as they go onwards to their respective conclusions. And also this will be more significent when we hear of High King Peter(at the least) during the Golden Age if H&HB gets made
-which, by the lion's mane, i think Andrew Adamson would be a good choice to do if he does one more!

But to the marketing & the film, plot arcs; I'm not entirely sure if this isn't a happy unintended consequence at the time- that was meant to be – for the marketing looks like it emphasized the battle aspects of the story rather than Narnian magical aspects (magical forests, talking animals-star gazing centaurs!, aslans how, being ancient myths from the past, castles etc) as well as emphasizing story being about growing-up and not coming back to Narnia (which is really only Susan's arc & not really the resonating problem in movie)because watching the film is all about enjoying Narnia realm! However it happened, it may be one of those films that more people grow to favor as the best narnia for certain things specific to Prince Caspian out of hopefully…an equally wondrous Narnian seven movie set:)

  21. Gem says:

No. They will not skip from SC to LB. That would be the worst marketing decision ever. And if SC isn't a huge success there won't be ANY more films.
Why does it matter that HHB and MN don't have any of the Pevensies or other current characters as main people? They are still Narnia stories just as much as the other books. HHB is probably the easiest film to convert from page to screen, and if MN is done right it will be the most stunning visual effect movie of them all. The object this whole production is make the book series into films, and that includes ALL the books.

  22. Princess Lucy says:

dnt forget the pevensies do actuallt appear in HHB and the WW appears in MN…i think it would be good marketing because it shows pevensies time as kings and queens of narnia and the begginning of the story of the WW would also attract people..so WHY NOT make them???

  23. _Lilliandil_ says:

Haha, I can see you know about as much about BO stuff as me, but yes, it's good! Narnia came in third, and although i think it should have came in first it's still really close! So I am happy. 🙂

  24. Aunt Letty says:

You are so right. There's a plethora of potential high-cinema moments in HHB; the escape of the Splendor Hyaline being one of them. Also the kidnapping, sea battle, and escape of infant Shasta, loads of intrigue and tension in Tashbaan with Radagast's character, and of course Aravis' home situation and escape.

Once again, I have to pay homage to Lewis' awesome skills in creating complexity of character and scene, with just a few masterful bits of dialogue and narrative exposition. There's hardly anything actually on the page, but there is SO much going on. Lots to work with for a screenplay, if the right people get to it first. Here's hoping!

  25. Queen Elizabeth says:

But it's a beautiful and unexpected ending to the adventure 🙂 The views who don't read the books will be very surprised and probably dissapointed about the deaths, but they all go out in a happy way.

  26. Queen Elizabeth says:

I didn't mean to "diss" Yogi Bear. The cartoon is cute but the movie looked like it had no story line at all. Narnia definetly should have destroyed Yogi in the box office.

  27. Queen Elizabeth says:

I'm always called a nerd for being a teen and being obseesed with the franchise. But I just nod and know what they're missing. But the stories are aimed towards anyone, some stuff is definetly not for little kids 🙂

  28. Queen Elizabeth says:

Sorry? But you might want to watch what you say because I will be an adult in about two years. And when I said "anywho" that is a word that I have grown up saying because my family uses it as a fun little word. And I really doubt saying this is "bad for the movies" in any way. So you might not want to judge people you don't know.

  29. Queen Elizabeth says:

Well I'm about 16, and I have long-ish blonde wavy hair. I love acting on stage in plays, but I wouldn't feel comphortable in a movie. I really want to be a director and be on set helping the cast. Or maybe be an extra with a small role 🙂 But they will be looking for girls maybe a little older than 13 🙁 since Will P. is 17. But hey, you never know 🙂 You could get it.

  30. Queen Elizabeth says:

Independent Lucy. Just a couple posts up father you said you were 13. So I am older than you. Just sayin.

  31. onedayit'llbeme says:

Yeah Swordbrithel12, same for me in the UK! As a teenager, you're expected to only be in for the Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana or Twilight. Things like Narnia and Lord of the Rings are too old fashioned, pure and 'boring' for today's generation who need to have a storyline which isnt so innocent. My friends think I'm crazy for liking Narnia and feel as if I never grew out of my 5 year old likes.
But yeah Queen Elizabeth you are totally right! They are the ones who are missing out! 😉 And like you say Princess Lucy, its sites like this where we can get it all out! Lol!

  32. Queen Elizabeth says:

That is why I love you guys! 🙂 lol This site is where I can come and just be my normal self. Even at home my sister thinks I'm nuts lol, she's all into Justin Beiber and all that. And I'm just like, what is she thinking lol. I love history and fantasy and Narnia gives me all of that 🙂

  33. Queen Elizabeth says:

To Independent Lucy: I just realized that I just sounded like a total jerk. I'm sorry 🙂 But you should really think before you speak, and that goes for all of us. 🙂

  34. Kiz says:

The Christmas lights in Regent and Oxford Street in London advertise VDT. The Queen went to see it in 3D and we have had interview shows on Sky Movies. I think the advertising has been good here. I went to see it in 2D as the 3D glasses do not fit well over my own glasses so it irritates me.

I loved VDT as all the other films. I am a Narnia-Head and LB is my fave book with HHB second.

  35. "There is zero chance that the film will break even during its theatrical run."

This is, of course, not true. This is still early in it's theatrical run, so naturally if it has very good holds and stays in the theaters a long time it can still make a small profit. The advertising budget however was high (Walden said $100 million), and they have to pay a cut to the theater owners and special fees and taxes (especially overseas). So, things are not going great for the film, but it's looking brighter than it did after the truly disappointing domestic opening weekend and whatever the case it's not bombing outright. Although not typical, many films have had high enough opening weekend multiples that would allow a film like this to turn a profit in the end.

Tribunal is certainly incorrect that it needs to triple (and more than triple, apparently, for a $600+ million box office) its budget to make a profit. If that were so this film never would have been made, because no one in their right mind would make a sequel that could only make money by doing far, far better than Prince Caspian did. And under those circumstances PC would have lost an absolutely tremendous amount of money (which it didn't). Very few films would ever make any money if this were true and Hollywood would have already gone bankrupt by about 1925. Typical estimates usually just double the budget, not triple it (however, that still might be off since the marketing budget was higher for Voyage of the Dawn Treader than for most films–so that has to be taken into account too). At any rate, it should do well if it makes what Prince Caspian did, or perhaps less depending on the individual agreements Fox made with theater owners about the film. We'll just have to wait and see. This is way too early to make any final pronouncements about whether The Silver Chair will or will not happen.

  36. Do you feel that Jesus harmed the spreading of his word by using parables? That idea makes about as much sense to me. Jesus understood that making a point through a story is often the best way of making that point at all.

J.R.R. Tolkien incorporated a lot of Norse mythology into The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion. Does his stories make Norse mythology more disgusting or more attractive to people?

TO Queen Elizabeth: You are the jerk !!! How dare you !!!! I am NEVER coming to Narnia web again !!!

  38. Princess Jennifer says:

  39. Princess Jennifer says:

To Queen Elizabeth : You sound PERFECT for the movie !!! A couple comments up you said you were blonde…….Beautiful !!!! I absolutely LOVE blondes !!! I have red hair……Sorry, I don"t like my hair. It is shoulder length. I am 15 and about 5 foot 3" Do you think I would be a good actor ? And also, If you don"t mind……Where do you live ? What state ? I would love to get to know you better.

I hope I"m not being to forward. Please talk to me ASAP. Not to be rude……I don"t want to be like Independent Lucy…….A jerk.

  41. liam says:

did fox/walden not say that they beleaved they had resurrected the narnia franchise. plus its making money even though we are in more financially stricken times than when pc was released surely thats a good thing. plus i think the order filming should be sc mn hhb then the lb so as to include all characters that appear in last battle

  42. Princess Jennifer says:

Excuse me…….Are you talking to me ? Or just anyone ? I"m just curious.

  43. Princess Jennifer says:

Never mind to Queen Elizabeth. I bet I was being to forward. I"m so sorry. But I would REALLY like to be friends with you . Merry Christmas !!!! I hope you get everything you want !!

  44. Non-Negotiable Comment says:

    Zero. Chance.

  45. Queen Elizabeth says:

Ok First to Independent Lucy: I'm sorry if I made you mad, but you really shouldn't over react. I didn't want to start an issue.

Next to Princess Jennifer: Red hair sounds AWESOM! There is only one person with red hair in my small town so that is cool. I'm sure if you really try at the audition you could do great.

I personally don't want to be in the movie. (maybe as a small role) I'd love to help on set and behind the scenes. I live in the US. (I really shouldn't give out to much info) But it's nice to have friends on here.

Wouldn't it be sweet if I really knew you guys in real life. Like what if you guys go to my school or something?

  46. Princess Jennifer says:

That would be cool !!! Sorry that I was too forward. But you sound really pretty and smart and well, I would love to get to know you. I live in Kansas just so you know. I live in the country with horses.chickens, and we are looking for sheep. I am homeshooled and live about 45 miles away from the nearest town. Do you think I am a hick ?

  47. Independent Lucy says:

You shood have thought of that before you called me a jerk !!

  48. Princess Jennifer says:

Grow up !!! It should be a compliment compared to how you are. I would declare war on you if I could !! For Queen Elizabeth !!!!

  49. Independent Lucy says:

2 can play at this game !!! I might as well be a telmarine !!! Fine !! Queenie Elizabeth… You are forgiven now GOOD BYE !!!!!

  50. Princess Jennifer says:

Yeah you better run Telmarine !!!

  51. Queen Elizabeth says:

DO I HAVE TO BE ASLAN AND END THIS?!!!
Because you all need to stop. I don't want to be a big problem and I really don't want you to leave this site Independent Lucy. And Princess Jennifer, thanks a lot 🙂 But I don't want to start the first ever NarniaWeb War. So let's just all make up right now.

  52. Queen Elizabeth says:

Thanks for saying I'm pretty and stuff :)But you honestly don't even know what I look like lol. I guess I would say I'm smart, idk. My hair looks exactly like Geogie Henley's just dark-ish blonde.

  53. Queen Elizabeth says:

Question for all my NarniaWeb buddies. Should I start a blog. If so, about what. Something that would keep things interesting.

  54. Princess Jennifer says:

I think you should totally start a blog. I have been dying to do one, but I have just not done it yet. You could write about us, or you coud write about us almost starting the biggest war on Narniaweb. LOL !!! Sorry I was kind of mean… I just don"t like her picking on you. I want to be a writer when I grow up. I will be sure to write about you in one of my books, my dear friend. I am writing my own new Narnia book. It is called " The Chronicles of Narnia White Witch Returns" What do you think ? Hey !!! You could write about that !! I will keep thinking !!

  55. Not Of This World says:

    I wouldn't make a good Jill 😉

  56. Princess Jennifer says:

Why Not !!!! I am just kidding…… But I will stand by your side and be your protector and Reepicheep. For Narnia !!!

  57. Not Of This World says:

  58. Princess Jennifer says:

  59. Independent Lucy says:
