They will start filming the Hobbit on March 21.

  2. Arvan says:

I will definitely agree to that, Jennifer. I think all of us wanted to stop, we just wouldn't. 🙂
Thank you High Queen Shellybelly, I wanted to stop this but instead I just got myself involved.

    Aahhh… peace.

  3. Princess Jennifer says:

Great !! The movie sounds really cool. I will see if it is on tv soon and try to watch it ! No, I don't think it is the same guys who did "Fireproof,Facing the Giants, or Flywheel" ( Another movie by them.) I Love those movies though !! I hear they are making a new one !! It is supposed to be about this guy is a cop, and something about his son. It is like a Father-son movie.

  4. Not Of This World says:

What about "Praying Pevencie" or "Amazed by His Grace" ? Just suggestions

  5. Arvan says:

Andrew Adamson did produce, though. I agree with you, I think I'd have preferred him as director. Then we'd also still have HGW and his amazing, NARNIAN music.
My biggest problem with the film wasn't really the direction or the cheapness of the film, but the script. I feel like Doug Gresham was tricked by the other writers, who essentially told him they NEEDED a new, epic good-versus-evil plot to bring it all together. So essentially, instead of a new, different kind of film with a different plot, they tried to make the movie more like OTHER movies. That just isn't the point to me. The point is to make it like the book, not other movies that did well (because they were different, groundbreaking). They should make a groundbreaking film themselves instead of copying others! THAT is the epitome of screenwriting. Stop worrying about what others do, and let them worry about what you do. Don't worry about episodic-ness and what Rotten Tomatoes thinks of it, but worry about what the general population thinks about it. They need to remember the people who frequent NarniaWeb, Narniafans, and Aslan's Country are only a percentage of the people who've not only read the Chronicles, but love and care about them.

They're definitely among the ones who affect the box office. Not everyone is a Narnia fanatic like us who look for any reference to a theme from the book or love everything with the label "Narnia" on it. A lot of normal people saw VDT and were frankly offended by it. I know them personally. One even said he didn't care if he ever saw the film again. They probably would have liked it more if it had tried to be the book and not other films.

I don't agree with my friends who bash VDT and call it a sad excuse for a movie, but I have to respect and even love their devotion for the books.

Whew! All that to say I think that it's a whole lot more than the budget or the distributor's view of the film. In the end it's the direction and especially the script that decides what's a good movie. With the script they had, the marketers thought they needed to show an enemy (The White Witch), and they attempted to portray VDT as another epic movie instead of the Odyssey-like adventure story.
That was long. Hope it makes sense and no one minds my ranting.

  6. Arvan says:

You're so right. What we need are the fans communicating with the filmmakers!

  7. Arvan says:

Ooh, good names! But Pevensie is spelled with an S, not a C.

  8. Mina says:

He goes "You should be this is childish (I can't make out the last word.)" I swear it sounds like excitement though.

  9. High Queene Shelly Belly says:

what is the email address, please?

  10. Princess Jennifer says:

Oooh !!!! I LOVE IT !!! I think I will do that !! Thanks for your help !!!

  11. Praying Pevensie says:

    Well, Here goes !!

  12. Not Of This World says:

    That's awesome!

  13. Not Of This World says:

Whoops! Thank you! (I've been spelling that wrong for 5 years now!)

Well I hope you like the name!

  14. Praying Pevensie says:

I like it !!!lol . I used to think that Aslan, was Asland. I don't know why I thought that !! I just did. I spelled it like that for several months before My mom and I were together and she told me, it was Aslan !!

  15. Praying Pevensie says:

Yeah. I think it starts in theaters this summer. We usually don't go to movie theaters, but We did For VDT, and are planning to go this summer for that movie "Cowboys and Aliens". That sounds so cool. Also Cars 2 is coming out. How exciting, we will earn alot of money to go this summer !! Last year, I begged for the "Flicka" movie. I got it for Easter, but my brother found it, and he was not willing to give it up easily. ( He didn't want the movie, he just wanted to see me beg.) This year, I am begging for the VDT movie. I hope I find it, if They get it for me for Easter. My brother will not give it to me this year. I guarrentee it !!

  16. Arvan says:

That is, Princess Jennifer has a new name!

  17. Praying Pevensie says:

Yep, nd I love it. It's all thanks to Not of this World for thinking of it for me. I thank him for that. I love the name because it speaks of Christ, yet Narnia. It is….Prating Pevensie !!

  18. I completely agree with you, Arvan. I was disappointed that the filmmakers took VDT, such a unique adventure journey, and tried to make it like other fantasy blockbusters. I still don't quite see the logic behind that! How would that make it a standout? *shakes head puzzledly*
As a movie altogether, I really loved it, and I reckon that it did justice to the movie franchise, but I would have loved it to be more accurate to the book. The script and dialogue left quite a bit to be desired, and Apted's directing was probably a bit restrained for a movie such as Narnia.
If they make another narnia film, I'm hoping for many things, but most one of the main things is that Harry comes back to compose. For me, the music added another dimension to the first two films that the third didn't have. Even more than that, though, I hope that they don't shy away from Narnia's important spiritual message! 😀

  19. Starlily says:

Buy it on Amazon a few weeks after it comes out. It'll be several dollars cheaper. 🙂

  21. liz says:

  22. liz says:

  23. Not Of This World says:

We are looking forward to Cars 2 too. The first one was awesome. When we were watching the Super Bowl pre-game show and they announced that there would be a Cars 2 everybody in my family said "That's awesome!" or "I want to go see that!" While we're talking about movies, heve you seen the Blind Side? That movie is so cool 🙂

  24. Not Of This World says:

    Glad you like it 🙂

  25. Not Of This World says:

LOL When I went to see LLW for the first time in the theatre I thought his name was Asland too! 😀 Then on the way back home my mom told me it was aslan 🙂

  26. Praying Pevensie says:

Not like, LOVE !! Thanks for your help !!!

  27. Praying Pevensie says:

    Neat !!! I also, when the movie first came out, I thought it I thought that Susan said they were from Finland. This confused me because I was sure they were from England. I then noticed, they were from Finchland !! I think. lol != }

  28. Praying Pevensie says:

It sounds familiar. Um…..I think we've seen it, but I can't really remember. Sorry. I've seen "See no evil Hear no evil", and "Foul Play," but that isn't the title you asked for, is it ? Sigh……. I will keep thinking. Thanks for the advice on the movies !!

  29. Arvan says:

You're so right about Harry, they needed him badly in VDT.

Another thing I've thought about is the whole spiritual theme thing. I've noticed that they didn't really put the temptation theme in subtly, but kind of threw it in your face. A lot of people said VDT "redeemed" the franchise because it kept the themes of the book and didn't hide them in the shadows… but
    a. That is the whole idea of a theme. It belongs in the background, in the shadows. Not out of sight, but you don't want it in your face. This was one thing Prince Caspian actually got right. The faith theme was there, fairly obvious, but you didn't feel like you were in a children's Sunday school. You felt like you were finding another perspective on faith.
    b. The theme of "temptation" wasn't really a theme of the book. Those themes were Honor, Longing, and perhaps most importantly, Redemption.

They just didn't do those^ in the film.

  30. Savber100 says:

Whoa… seems like the 'discussion' has really flown since I last visited.

As for your idea on petition, studios go where the money is at. Sure, we can petition, but in the long run,a studio generally wouldn't care unless it affects the inflow of box-office revenue. Why would a studio executive care about a letter demanding for a more faithful adaptation if he knows that fans will continue to watch it and send in the revenue no matter if the movie sucks or not? Think Twilight… those movies aren't going to get any better movie-wise since it seems fans just keep coming back for more no matter how bad the film was. Simply put, it's business as usual.
That said, this is my last post on the subject. We can all discuss this on the forum rather than the comment sections down here. 😛

  31. Arvan says:

Eragon is a great example of fans' influence. If they ever remake that film, I guarantee it will be a more faithful adaptation. The fans saw it, and didn't see it again. If the fans would stop trying to "support the franchise", and see the film once (enough to get an opinion), then send real letters to Walden Media, they'd have a film that didn't make much, and a whole lot of letters stating why it didn't do well. Instead, if we boycott the film and end there, or don't even see it once and boycott it before seeing it, well, that only tells them not to make another. It doesn't say why the film failed. We can't just boycott VDT. We need to restrain ourselves and stop going to see the film over and over again, and send letters to Walden, a fairly small company, to explain why. You think that might have an effect?

  32. pselpevensie says:

    THIS SOUNDS SOOOOOOOOO COOOOOOLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!

  33. Loving the new name. Very creative, Not of This World.

  34. Praying Pevensie says:

YES! April 8th is my 16 Birthday! I am so happy!

  36. Praying Pevensie says:

Yahoo !! Ok, I have this book, " The Pocket Companion to Narnia" And I was reading it, I looked under Aravis, and guess what it said ? Yes !! It said that Aravis was a young girl from calormeen that was a young teen, ( I'm twelve.) And was very adventurous.( I am adventerous too !) How cool is that ? I COULD be Aravis !! Here is what the book said:

    Aravis
A Calormene noble woman, in her early teens, who is one of the main characters in HHB ( The others are Shasta, Bree, and Hwin.).Her stories detail her flight from the cruel, stifling, world of southern calormene to freedom in the north specificically Archanland. More important,* in HHB she meets Shasta and becomes Queen of Archanland. She is compassioniate, humble, and has leadership.*

Ok, All of that is what the book said. But when you come to the stars(*) that means that I just wrote notes on the important stuff. Cause believe me, She had a LONG biography. Shorter than Lucy,Edmund, and Eustace, yet longer than others. So far, I've read Aravis, Eustace, and began Edmund. It is an awesome book !!

  37. I didn't get what they did with the themes either. How on earth they got the idea that temptation was the main theme of the book I have not a clue. I've heard rumours that they got it from 'the book C.S. Lewis didn't write'. What about the book he did write, the one they're supposedly making into a movie??? *rubs temples in confusion* I don't know.

  39. Not Of This World says:

The Blind Side is about this homless kid on the streets (Michel Oher – now Left Tackle for the Baltimore Ravans) and while he was walking down the road, a family was driving by, and they offered him to stay the night at their house. And then the family got close with him and they adopted him. Then he played football at the high school they went to and then he was recruded by all these college football teams and he choose to go to Ole Miss. Than after college, he was drafted in the 2009 NFL Draft to the Baltimore Ravans.

yeah, that bubble looks really cheesy, tacky. let's hope it works, though.

  44. High Queene Shelly Belly says:

Arvan, you hit the nail right on the head!!!!! i wish they would read your post!!!!

  45. High Queene Shelly Belly says:

As a professional radio/television broadcaster for almost 30 years, I am telling you for a fact that this is how they make decisions. Keep supporting it, so they know there is still an audience for this product, and contact them about what you like/dislike because they use that info to make decisions. that is why they hold advance screenings and then have the audience fill out detailed questionaires about their thoughts. A great deal of money is put into researching what the audience; reaction is. i'm talking millions and there are whole industries that center on researching the public's opinion. I have personally been involved in this kind of research. Your feelings about their product , positive or negative, will not just float into their heads somehow. they will not even know you are boycotting. they will just assume the interest has dried up and move on to a new property. TAKE POSITIVE ACTION AND TELL THEM your thoughts, reactions, desires. The time to tell them what you are looking for in Silver chair is NOW, while they are making decisions about it. For example, if you write them NOW, before they hire a music composer, TELL them you missed HGW. TELL them you liked the DVD cover better than the poster. They LOOK for this feedback.

  46. High Queene Shelly Belly says:

I hope you are right, I felt bad for her.

  47. High Queene Shelly Belly says:

    they are from FINCHLEY, England.

  48. Not Of This World says:

That movie is my favorite (besides Star wars and narnia, of course). What are your favorite movies?

  49. Arvan says:

Yeah. Why else do you think they took out Caspian's "Susan! I've got you!" line? Because the fans heard about it and complained loudly!

  50. Praying Pevensie says:

See, I still don't have it right !!! LOL !! Thanks for your help !!!

  51. Praying Pevensie says:

My brother likes Star Wars too !! So does my sister. They LOVE Starwars and never miss an episode !! I think my favorite movies, ( Besides Narnia of course ) are, Fireproof, Racing Stripes, and I-max horses. It is a documentary, ut I LOVE it. It shows three horses, and how they get sold from home to home, and some of the reasons a horses is, like it is. We are going to watch another movie tonight. ( From Netflix) Called " Kingdom of Heaven." It is about a boy in mideavel times, who fights for Christ in the Crusades.Co-star is Liam Neeson !! What are some other movies you enjoy ?

  52. Not Of This World says:

I listed all of my favs accept Facing the Giants 🙂

  53. Not Of This World says:

The movie you were talking about sounds cool too!

  54. Not Of This World says:

    Thanks!

  55. Praying Pevensie says:

oh, sorry about that. Thanks for saying my movie looked cool and stuff. =] Your movies sounded really cool too. I will try to get the chance to watch them. Thanks ! While we're on the subject of movies, I directed a play with my siblings a couple months ago, it was a musical. It was a Esther and the King musical. I need to direct another one now though. They LOVE doing musicals. I am considering Princess and the Pauper for the girls, but I need something they both would like. Any ideas ? ( I've thought of Narnia.)

  56. My aunt returned from Pakistan today. She surprised me by giving me a copy of the DVD. I'll post a video on YouTube and give a link as soon as possible. It's not what I thought, but it was something… at least I got the movie. 🙂

  57. Mr. Apted is really losing points with me. I keep getting the feeling that he resented the idea of directing this movie, as if someone forced him to.

  58. Nickname your dog Trumpkin 😀

  59. Ew, he actually SAID THAT? And they were actually going to INCLUDE IT??? Thank goodness the fans took control!!!
I'll definitely take your advice, Shelley, and write to the filmmakers. Would you be able to tell me who would be the best person to write to? The producers? The director? Someone else? Sorry, I know virtually nothing about movies, so bear with me if I'm sounding a little silly here. 😀
