South Korea to See ‘Dawn Treader’ in 4D!?

Posted December 1, 2010 11:24 am by fantasia_kitty 27 Comments

NarniaKr wrote us to let us know that The Voyage of the Dawn Treader will be shown in South Korea in 4D. I had never, ever heard of a 4D movie before so I looked it up. Here’s what Wikipedia has to say about it.

4-D film (sometimes written 4D film) is a marketing term that describes an entertainment presentation system combining a 3-D film with physical effects in the theatre, which occur in synchronization with the film. Because the physical effects are expensive to set up, 4-D films are usually presented only at special venues such as theme parks and amusement parks. However, in South Korea, some movie theatres also have the ability to present a 4-D film and the film Avatar was one of 10 films that have received the treatment, starting with Journey to the Center of the Earth. Some of the effects simulated in 4-D films include rain, wind, strobe lights, and vibration. The use of water sprays and air jets is also common. A 4-D film is not shown in a motion simulator, although some seats in 4-D venues vibrate or may move a few inches during the presentation.

So basically it’s like being in an amusement park ride while watching the movie in 3D. Cool!

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader opens in South Korea on 8 Dec 2010.

Thanks NarniaKr for the heads up!

David Arnold Talks about Scoring ‘Dawn Treader’

Posted December 1, 2010 10:21 am by fantasia_kitty 1 Comment

There’s a new interview that David Arnold pointed out on his Twitter, where he chats with Classic FM about writing the score for The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

The art of film composing is a curious thing. The music is vital to the movie, but it’s very often composed after the action has been filmed:
“Which ever way you do it, it is entirely solitary. It’s a peculiar thing, you kind of crave company to a certain extent because you do have to spend about 90 per cent of your day in a room by yourself, just with the image for company.”

You can read the story here and listen to the 8:11 interview at the bottom of the page.

KidzWorld Interviews Georgie and Will

Posted November 29, 2010 7:41 pm by fantasia_kitty 13 Comments

KidzWorld.com has posted a really fun interview with Georgie and Will where they (of course) talk about The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, but some other non-Narnian things as well. Like which actor is their idol and what their real life temptations are. Here’s a preview:

Kidzworld: One of the themes of the novel and this film is overcoming temptation and conquering it. What would be a great temptation for each of you?

Georgie: I’ve always wanted to do theater studies; study drama at my school and do exams in it and take it as a lesson and the biggest temptation for me would be to take up theater studies then get a really, really good job and have to say no to it.

Kidzworld: But you’re already an actress. Why study theater?

Georgie: But I’m not very good. [Will disagrees here] Film is very different to theater. There’s tricks of the trade you have to learn. I’d hone my craft. But another weird temptation I have is that every time I go on top of a tall building, I want to jump off it! I want to feel the feeling of flying down so I think bungee jumping is something I should do. I can’t be trusted around tall buildings.

Will: I think my biggest temptation would be to have a super power and not be able to tell anyone about it or use it in public in front of people. I watched loads of superhero shows when I was a kid and read comics and watched cartoons. I’d always think “Why don’t you tell anybody?” I’d be tempted to tell and show!

Georgie’s On-Set Injury was Digitally Healed

Posted November 29, 2010 9:23 am by glumPuddle 38 Comments

DailyMail recently posted an interview with Georgie Henley (Lucy). It is mostly concerned with her personal life, but of course she talks about Narnia a little. Here’s a clip:

‘The worst thing happened in a sword scene in which I had to fight off four grown men. We had almost got it right on the first take but the camera missed an important bit where I kick one of the men in, er, a not-so-very-nice place, and they wanted me to do it again. So we did it, but then I forgot that I was supposed to duck and one of the men’s sword handles hit me. I had to go to accident and emergency – I had a black eye and massive swelling on one side of my face. We had to continue shooting the next day, so they applied tons of make-up and digitally reshaped my face!’
