Narnians at the Oscars

Howard Berger (Hitchcock) and Tami Lane (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey) are both nominated for Makeup & Hairstyling Oscars this year. Berger and Lane won the Oscar in 2006 for their work in Disney/Walden’s The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The 85th Annual Academy Awards start tonight at 7:00pm EST.
UPDATE: The Oscar went to Les Misérables.

Peter Dinklage Cast in Upcoming ‘X-Men’ Film

Director Bryan Singer tweeted the news today that Peter Dinklage (Trumpkin) has been cast in X-Men: Days of Future Past, a sequel to X-Men: First Class (2011). His role has not been announced. He joins James McAvoy (Tumnus), who will reprise his role as a young Professor Xavier. Patrick Stewart (who reads the audio recording of “The Last Battle”) will also appear. Read the full story.

TORN Talks to Kiran Shah (Ginarrbrik)

He talks about being cast as the White Witch’s right-hand dwarf, and working with Tilda Swinton. More recently, Shah appeared in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey as a scale double for Bilbo, and is also credited as playing the Goblin Scribe. Bille Brown Passes Away

Actor Bille Brown, who played Coriakin in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010) has passed away at the age of 61. He had been battling cancer for twelve months. James McAvoy Would Like to Play Younger Gandalf

Christopher Tolkien has made it clear he would never sell the film rights to ‘The Silmarillion.’ But that has not stopped James McAvoy (Tumnus) from dreaming. The actor says that if a film adaptation was ever made, he would love to play a younger Gandalf. Read the story here. McAvoy played a young Professor Xavier in X-Men: First Class (2011).

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey had a record-smashing opening weekend, grossing $84.78M in the United States. If you thought Balin sounded familiar, that is because he is played by Ken Stott, the voice of Trufflehunter in Prince Caspian (2008). And his makeup was applied by Tami Lane, who won an Oscar for The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005).  See Balin at the end of this clip.

Georgie Henley to Star in ‘The Sisterhood of Night’

According to Deadline, Georgie Henley (Lucy) has been cast in the leading role in The Sisterhood of Night. Georgie will play Mary, a member of a New Jersey suburban secret society.

Synopsis: When the high school’s gossip girl exposes a secret society called The Sisterhood of Night, the quiet town of Fairview is thrown into the public eye and blogosphere. What follows is a chronicle of three girls’ unique and provocative alternative to the complexities of the digital abyss.
